@BoseBassist Big muff pi doesn't give you cliff sound. It gives you guitar sound. The metal muff will get you close, but to get close to Cliff sound you need a bass big muff. check out my cliff burton tone video
im looking at distortion pedels because the distortion on my morly is cutting it any more and was wondering should i get the bass big muff or the metal muff
@southparkfan1999 completely different pedals. I find the bass big muff changes your sound and adds a little bit of edge, watch my demo vid for that, the metal muff is good for over the top thick sound. As you can see it sounds very much like a guitar, so I fear it will get lost in the mix of a band, but I love playing it at home by myself or with drums. The bass big muff is alright, watch my vid, its a very different pedal. What kind of distortion are you going for?
@themanonthebass Definitely man, a bass boost on this pedal would be a great bonus I tried my guitarists metal muff at band practice and sounded killer for cutting through
@southparkfan1999 The cliff sound (I heard) is closest to a russian big muff with a morley, but I prefer the metal muff because it will get heavier. Don't get the bass big muff unless you're combining it with another pedal. The boss ds-1 for guitar is also pretty close to the cliff sound.
Lol I use a DD-11 Dime distortion and USSR big muff. The dime was a good distortion pedal, but it's even better on low to no gain as a driver. It works as well as a SansAmp. I use it to boost my signal rather turning up the volume on my amp because it actually maintains ur tone without having to make adjustments for gigs.
@Hendrixidol interesting, I was looking at that for about a week before I figured it wasn't exactly the sound I was going for, the dime pedal. How do you feel about the russian big muff is it heavy enough for your purposes?
@nidhawk818 ebay, 50 bucks. You just have to wait for the right time. There were about six used metal muffs for sale at the same time so prices were down. I'd pay a hundred for it, so worth it. Nails the scooped mids, and the mid tone cranked up is great too if you're into that...
@nidhawk818 I messed around on the boss metal zone pedal, and it was definitely awesome I have vids of it on youtube. Other than that no. I think that on bass if you want that extreme metal sound either the metal muff or the metal zone will get the job done. The more I experiment with the metal muff the more I realize how many different sounds I can get I love it.
@southparkfan1999 My morleys both end up dropping all that thick fuzz, I don't know if that's normal for morleys or not, but I do plan on experimenting with it through the PWF and the PWB in the future when I have more time. What do you think of the sound?
@themanonthebass its amazing it rivals the big muff and the pwf you might as well take the fuzz effect off and never use it again because your not going to need it
@southparkfan1999 I actually ran the metal muff through the morley pwb with boost engaged to get EVEN MORE TOP END AND HIGH GAIN!!!!!! it is really crazy
@themanonthebass holy shit i watched orion vid and i was amazed and that was just through a small pevey i cant think of how crazy it would sound through a stack
For cliff sound. Big muff pi OR Metal muff. Please dont say both.

@themanonthebass I think you could easily cut through the band on bass with the metal muff as its got great mids

@robdelabassist totally. thanks for knowing what you're talking about. mids will get you to the front of the mix, especially with scooped guitars.

@themanonthebass Its SWELL for my purposes. It screams like guitar distortion but has enough low-end sustain for bass without being fuzzy.
