@AnimalHouseVetVideos except that no one payed 91% back then NO one that was before kennedy closed the offshore tax havens the effective tax rates one people making more than 10 million never passed 20.6% of their income even when capital gains taxes were 40% it just meant that less people bought stocks. the poverty rate didnt fall to modern levels until Kennedy slashed taxes and closed loopholes.

I admit Mike Dukakis' last term was bad. But the republicans were 10 times worse, at least Deval Patrick is trying to fix the wrongs of his predecessors, he allowed competition for car insurance companies, tried to get casinos in when everybody leaves the state for gambling. Just with the reading I've done so far in my life, I know that the people created local government to do what the people could not possibly do for themselves. The state Governments were created to do what the local governments could not do. And the Federal Government was created to do only what the People, local government and state governments could not do on their own, which by the way is not very much. Over here we have 8-9 which make it over 4% but then they ally with eachother trying to get into majority so they can do more stuff with less talking, but I think that's less "democracy" than if all the parties had their vote in everything. Because if say the new "allies" get 55% and only 70% of them want one thing and everyone in the rest 45% want the same as the 30% of the former 55% that "vote" are still in majority, even thought the other alternative will win. Which suck =P

Over all more local/direct democracy would probably be better because that makes people feel more like they are a part of it and got something to say, the further away the power are the less you care of belive you can affect it.
