  • Last time I checked an X on a Runway means it's closed, but here your aiming for it. WTF!

  • its weird on flight simulator x the mountain is directly in front of that runway like DIRECTLY

  • I LOVE MY ISLAND

    :D !! <33

  • Forget the designated touchdown zone, I'm aiming for the ''X'' on that runway, lol.

  • my name is Saba, hahahah

  • Isn't it a shorter runway than on an aircraft carrier

  • That was an epic landing. Well done pilot!

  • where is this airport?

  • @MichaelsGamingRig little building to the right of air port

  • @MichaelsGamingRig It's called Juancho E. Yrausquin Airport, and is located on the Caribbean island of Saba. It has the shortest commercially serviceable runway in the world. Hope I helped! :D

  • my driveway is bigger than that!

  • that airplane need some aresting hooks if it wants to land that "runway" again

  • its easy to land this with a Twin Otter since it can brake really fast

  • @Lucassandro25 Not only the Twotter, but the Dornier DO-228 and the Maule M7.

  • @mylife1221 Which are STOLs, I forgot.

  • thumb up if you thought that its going to overrun

  • 5 people overran the runway :-D

  • he's almost standing in the air on touchdown :D

  • perfect awesome landing!!!! congratulations to the pilots

  • ATC: "Winair 123, call the ball.."

    WM123: "Roger Winair 123 Ball."

    ATC: "Roger Ball"

  • Are you sure that wasn't an aircraft carrier?

  • One after noon in Kenora Ont Ross Woodward came around the runway and landed across it and into the taxiway.

    Didn't wanna bother with crosswinds.

Saba is long compared to some landings I have done in a twin Otter.

These are not carrier pilots they are twin otter pilots.

    Carrier pilots can dream though.

  • whats up with helicopters? they dont use them anymore or what??

  • name of my couison coooooool there is a place named saba

  • No sweat for the Mighty Twin, as long as you stay on speed (which isnt easy in turbulence). 1300ft aint that short, really.

  • "Dude, when are we landing?"

    *bumb*

Other Guy: We're at the gate

  • Lukla Nepal airport is the most dangerous airport .......

  • what about thoses flag poles by the terminal building ..... Flags on half means that some one died..... did some one crach or ?

  • I tried that in FSX and it's very hard

  • @Lucassandro25 ye i tried it azwell , very hard!! try with twinotter

  • @Lucassandro25 Its the difference bewteen reality and simulation its way different. You could easily land a MD-81 in that runway with FSX because the braking simulation is not as good, but in real life it would be impossible to at least make a touch and go with that airplane.

  • I would shit my pants ! That´s awesome !

  • Cool!!! Vooral nu dit een Nederlandse Gemeente is !!!

  • @MasterArends

    Haha precies! xD

  • non René n'a pas la cicatrice mais moi oui je me suis si souvent écorché avec les power levers !!!

  • I bet those are aircraft carrier pilots.

  • I bet those are aircraft carrier pilots.

  • @Midnightrider1126 nope regular pilots it isnt hard winair pilots say st barths is harder all u gotta do is concentrate on where u wanna touchdown as soon as ur gonna hit u kick in thr reverse thrusters an brakes after ur fiish the flare an whala ur down

  • Merci pour avoir mis cette vidéo, elle me rappelle ma jeunesse.....

Est- ce que René a une cicatrice sur le haut du crâne, comme tous les pilotes de Twin- Otter?

  • Oh, crap! I thought it was gonna overrun!!! o_O

  • viva winair!

  • It's all about BALLS. Winair pilots got big brass ones!

  • imagine living on that island, waking up to airplanes in your driveway...

  • what the hell is the point of putting an airport here?

  • @rantstudio66

So idiots like you don't get there...I bought a place there because of all the no's...no beaches, no golf course, no cruise ships, and no room for plonkers...sorry you're not invited.

  • @Exiledwasp First, I dont fly. (in real life that is). Second im sure its nice living on an island like this, I find no problem with it. But the airport, its about as big as a golf course in Tokyo. (if you didnt get that its because its cramped in tokyo). And im not from England or Ireland so pardon me if it dont know what the fuck a plonker is.

  • twin otter is a badass airplane!!!!!!!!!!!111

  • If they wanted to make the runway big they could have, but they just wanted to make the smallest airport in the world. And why can't anyone show us how the airport looks like, they always turn off the camera, dang it.

  • this is cool i guess, but i am working on getting my ppl, and i practices short field landings on a 1300 ft runway, the same length as this, it also had a cliff on the end, the only diference was my runnway was 15 ft wide, where as this is 150-200 ft wide.

  • press the vuvuzela button

  • saba runway cant be used anymore its closed only boat now that sucks

  • A real runway for airplanes that want to be helicopters.

  • landed there once..dont think im gonna get on any plane landing there again..seein is one thing..actually landing there is a whole different story...

  • was that reverse thrust? i didnt know that prop aircraft had that

  • @deerkillawv they feather the props which is just twisting the props round

  • @leow626569 I hope they aren't feathering the props when they are going into reverse..unless they want to die I guess.

  • @deerkillawv yeah that was reverse thrust

  • the plane must stall before the touchdown

  • me lo mangio tutto saba

  • what kind of aircraft was that?

  • @niessie11 pretty sure its a twin otter

  • @Kopihucky O haha; I didn't saw the first 5 seconds.. =)

  • |Must be a coll gig!

  • That's ironic they have a displaced threshold on the world's shortest runway next to a mountain range.

  • What a stupid place to put a runway!

  • yes please..!!!

  • theres no thing such as a cessna 158???

  • "Hit the brakes!!!!!".

  • Fantasy Island."The plane,the plane!!!!!".

  • at ypaul--- you fricken retard thats a twin otter!??! did you even read the description? plus, they almost NEVER land c158s at saba, if they ever have

  • F that

  • in fact I think a carrier is longer ... something like 100 feet longer

  • thats not a twin otter

    its a cessna 158

  • twin otter dehavalan

  • what type of plane is that

  • @texastechfan32 its called a deHavilland DHC-6 aka the Twin Otter

  • Yep. You can land one on a post stamp

  • That's not a runway - that's a fuckin' aircraft carrier!

  • @MattBuck6969 thats a cliff man if its an AC it would have shouted at them to divert

  • i loveeee saba

  • why dont land on the water?

  • why dont land on the other side?

  • @specialpalamig

Great to keep away from the rocks, cliffs, etc. Especially if the crosswind has a tendancy to gust and put you off track.

You t/o and land into wind where possible, t/o and landing direction depends on this where possible.

  • sweet

  • "where we landing again?....Ya see that driveway over there?.......thats where were landing..."

  • @blueflame53 hahahah that's a good one lol

  • @blueflame53 ya really the pilot says " we'll be on the driveway ETA 5 mins"

  • That's not a runway :-0 I've seen bigger car parking spaces than that :)

  • @carlgurney it is a runway lol

  • @carlgurney

it's the smallest international airport in the world

  • Ugh, I wanted to go this Christmas.... I love this place

  • the twin otter is BADASS... love the stall warning going off just before touchdown>>>>

  • This is not Radio Altimeter (I don't if Radio Height exist) because the rwy elev is 197 it's actually an MSL (Mean Sea Level) altitude and not AGL (Above Ground Level) altitude.

  • Well the radio altimeter would be reading sea level (approximately) cause they were over the sea! So of course ASL and AGL would be the same.

  • Funny how the the altitude callout is "100" just before Touchdown!

    (offcourse I do understand why)

  • My guess is that what you hear is Radio height, and the reading "One hundred" is in reference to the ocean below...

  • The runway is (less or more) approx 100ft above the level of the ocean and the callouts are Above Ground Level (AGL) Altitude in fts.

  • Comment removed

  • yeah cause i think its a height from the ocean and if you can see the airport is pretty high up from the sea level

  • What happens if you miss... you could not full power fast enough. I hope they have divers standing by...

  • then you are shark fodder *lol*

  • Only 700 Peoples live there

  • Wow, nice. Short runway.

    very difficult like Toncontin Honduras.

    Where is Saba?

    What aircraft is?

  • Saba is in the Atlantic Ocean. Near to St Marteen.

The airplane could be a DHC-6 Twin otter.

  • ill take the ferry lol

  • Twin Otter for the win!!

    Saba wouldn't be a problem for a Fieseler Fi 156 Storch ^^

  • Only the Twin Otter can do it! for real off course

  • why did they make this airport?

  • They got sick of ferrying between islands...

  • airport ? it looks more like a static aircraft carrier *lol*.

  • exactly what i said its like landing on an aircraft carrier with out the cables lol.

  • Nice landing

  • This is far more difficult than landing at Dominica's Melville Hall airport.

  • mad.

  • I have flown there dozens of times and you can be sure Winair never flies without a co-pilot. Particularly a plane carrying (paying) passengers.

  • bet they plan it so they land right on reserves..

  • Honestly this is not a short runway for a twin Otter

  • Wonder why ppl gave you thumbs down...Oh well..Yh your right

  • Yeah I guess the truth hurts some times. This strip is not short considering we landing the Otter often in off-strip conditions of 400-600'

  • Been to Lukla before with the Otter?

  • No I haven't I would love to see it though.

  • Look here on YT for Lukla, Otter, etc. Lots of vids. Very freaky. Short but the kicker is the density altitude and that one end of the runway is a brick wall! Going around doesn't even seem like an option. I have done tons of landings in FSX there and it's a bitch. Any other plane is near suicidal at that Alt. Recip engines don't stand a chance there. Don't even think about landing there IFR.

  • True. Plus, Lukla is much harder than SABA

  • Do NOT be right.

  • WOWW I Shitted my pants watching this video, can you imagine if i was in the plane itself.. Fuck the shit would be dripping from my ass right into the immigration terminal!!

  • I've seen this landing personally from the co pilot seat of a twin otter. Sometimes WinAir only flies with one pilot!!

  • It's like a aircraft carrier deck on land!

  • Are all the flags at half staff for the last guy who didn't stop in time?

  • This aircrafst land in to meters is amazing

  • Wow, so the ground proximity alert works, that's assuring... Looks like there's no instruments here....

    my god....

  • WOW!!!! i was at the edge of my seat for the landing, and i wasnt even in the plane!!!! the pilot must of landed at pretty much stall speed to be able to stop that quickly, great work by him:)

  • im from st maarten and i travel to saba ALOT its very fun place to be on vacations only living there i cant deal with but the landing isnt all that bad its the taking off lol

  • whats wrong with that runway??? is to short!!!!

  • Nothing they cant fit any more

  • SABA the shortest runway in the world!!!

  • Thats so mean!

  • its not its a fact of life it will eroide away , honestly what did you think that the planet will never re-shape again? every second the plants plates are moving causing the planet to re shape.

  • alex2mitch, you are a retard. Who cares if it's eroding? They can still maintain and repair it. Last time I checked, things didn't erode away fast enough until the entire thing was gone, the theory of catastrophism has been proved false millions of times. And if it's eroding away, that means nobody's running the airport, but guess what? The airport is still in commercial service, fucktard.

I have to agree with icechris. That's just a mean and senseless comment.

  • Thak you! jimmy is totally right what do you think other airports do?!

  • you are the retard you ovy don't understand what science is

  • I know what science is, it is one of my best subjects, and I already understand erosion. But, you don't understand that HUMANS repair things, which is something you should've known before junior kindergarten. If people didn't do maintenance on the airplane in this video and it was a piece of crap, it would likely crash, obviously enough. But, they REPAIR the damages. Same with airports. If something is wrong, they fix it. You're the retard here, because you don't understand common sense, obv.

  • You should stop arguing guys! Jimmy your right in that humans do repair things but alex is right in that after about 450-500 years that place will be replaced no matter how much repair is done. There i just proved you both right now stop with the internet war!

  • Winair Twin Otter

  • Twin Otter=versatile!

  • The nearest place to SABA its in TNCE..but i thought SABA is not dangerous than LUKLA the 10500 feet airport with the mountain in NEPAL..

    ..

  • Is TNCM considered dangerous? 'cause it is not.

  • TNCM is not dangerous, but the approach is.

  • why???? TNCM its a very simple aproach. my top five are: saint barths, saba, courchevel, lukla and chagual.

    nice video !!!!!!!!!

  • well dude ive never been to Lukla but i have landed in saba. a cliff on both sides of the runway. trust me dude that is some scary landing. the only way i wud put lukla before saba is in poor visibility cuz that approach is the most dangerous ive ever seen. The last plane crash there happened bcuz of poor visibility.

  • on february i'll be landing there yupi :D

  • this rW has like ummm i don´t lmpw 400 metters ? 300 ? no more U.u !

  • that runway has less than 500 metters xD Fuckkkkkkk !!!! i wouldn´t land there xD

  • Dangerous !

  • I wonder what civilian would want to go there.

  • me, just for the fun of it

  • if i went id go in a helicopter

  • Moustik971, j'adore cette vidéo c'est magnifique! Etes-vous français(e)?

  • Its located in SABA (carribean) Next to St Maarten !

  • Is a Dangerous Airport.

  • where is this airport located?

  • Caribbean, close to st. maarten

  • where is this airport located?

  • i not see how the crp u managed a controled stall

  • the crosses are to indicate danger the airport is still open, if the airport was shut the crosses would be where the runway numbers are located

  • Closed runways are indicated by a big, yellow X on each end. And Lukla is not the shortest runway at 1,616 feet, but it *is* the highest and trickiest commercial runway with a 12-degree upslope on landing and no chance of go-around. You try to land and you're committed to it. Although far shorter, this runway's much more forgiving.

  • The X's indicate that the airport is closed. It is only open to Winair and a very few others. Special training and qualifications are required to operate here.

  • WRONG! is isnt shut otherwise it would have yellow X'es at each side of the runway the white X'es indicate that it is in commecial use.

  • Okay. You got me. I haven't seen the X's since 1990. Sorry.

  • Actually, the x's mean that that portion of the runway is not suitable for takeoff or landing. On such a short strip, most pilots would forget that and use everything they can.

  • actualy its not the shortest runway in the world used commercily the shortest one used in the world is lukla

  • With a lenght of 1300ft it IS the shortest runway !

Lukla's runway is 1500ft long, although this doesn't make it less spectacular.

  • the runway is only 400 meters long lenght of a track and field track thing

  • crap!!! I dont even think that thing should be called a runway!!! Amazing... crashes there are very very rare!!

  • That's a very short runway!

  • locals claim it the shortest rwy for commercial use but officialy its closed you can see it by the crosses on the rwy

  • Yeah, I noticed that.. its used by commercial operators, but technically the airport is closed.

  • Or maybe we are wrong.. because thats a pretty nice paint job for a closed runway.. maybe that is how they mark their displaced thesholds in that country... I think that might be the case.
