Definitely my favorite version. I love how they left out the "and I'm so filthy with my sin.." verse. It didn't seem to fit the song since it's talking about having an obsession about God. We often condemn ourselves and don't realize that God understands our situation. Our God is not out there to get us, God is Grace. It's okay to feel bad about sin, but just know God has it all in His Hands.
I love this song! Finally after five years I got the guy I like to come with me to future quest, I am posting this because this song reminds me of my church where we have this amazing youth conference every year. This conference saved my life and this song brought me back down here to earth and saved my life! Go Jesus I love you with a passion! My heart burns for you!
Covers are usually not as good as the originals, in my opinion. But this one has special qualtiy....a tenderness with the passion that is truly moving.
I disagree with neverbackdown 1983. The Church needs to refocus on sin. As a body we have avoided the unpopular issue of sin, but it is a major focus of the entire Biblical text. Sin is that issue that separates all of humanity from the presence of God. Yes sin was defeated at the cross, but you need to meditate on what that actually means. Sin cost Jesus His life, continues to alienate people from God, and direct unbelievers to hell.

Thanks for your feedback. All those comments helped me to understand the reasoning behind their leaving out verse 2. *However* I prefer to keep my communication with God - be it through prayer or praise and worship - as honest and humble as possible. It's my experience that, when we hunger for His hands to be continually upon our lives, this is what draws us closer to his heart and makes the worship experience more personally transforming, as He wants it to be.
Great remix! One thing I would say that it's not shameful to sing verse 2 about us being filthy in our sins... Psalms are full of this staff and rest of Bible as well.
I just hope that there is more in these guys behind performance abilities. I know firsthand how it all works...
We're not filthy in our sins anymore because of the cross. 2 corinthians 5:21 says "He (God) made Him who knew no sin (Jesus) to be sin on our behalf, so that we might become the righteousness of God in Him." When Christ died, our sin nature died with Him.
Yes, we still sin because we have freedom to choose, but it's not part of our nature anymore. Also, the Psalms are Old Testament, which is before sin was defeated.
Before God accepts our offering of worship we should be reconciled to Him and have our sins covered by the Blood of Jesus anyway. So if we are singing songs of worship that are truly from our heart and that God will accept we shouldn't have to sing about our sin (unless we are singing about how God has brought us out of sin). Worship should be an offering of ourselves to God.
I agree that we all have a difficult time confessing our sins but me thinks worship should be more of worshiping God not singing about our sin? I think that's why they just sang the 1st verse :)
@neverbackdown1983 I am saved by grace but need to continually keep myself in check by takeing responsibility of my sin. It's not "focusing" on sin it's acknowledging it and repenting.
@neverbackdown1983 no u r wrong, today's church focuses too much on prosperity and smoothing the edges of God's word and lullaby people by saying everything is fine, you are fine, you don't have to worry, God planned everything. And yes he did, but we also have brain to distinguish stuff and read word and not be blind that this world is consuming by sin every minute. Don't be a delusional.
@neverbackdown1983 The focus should be on purity but in order to focus on becoming pure you have to recognize that there is sin. And unfortunately the church is FILLED with sin that it is not willing to recognize. FILLED with it.
@neverbackdown1983 In order to truly focus on God's greatness and majesty, our minds must be pure and we must have clear conscience so that things would not cover our cry out to God. We need to recognize we have victory over sin but also bring it into application to our daily lives and live holy lives dedicated to the cause of Christ.
@neverbackdown1983 well sin was defeated on the cross ...yeah so that is why people keep doing the wrong stuff because they think that because God was crusified for our sin...we can do whatever we want!!! Well wrong was defeated on the cross yes!!!!! But he wanted us to be like him that is why he gave us a mind, a brain, thoughts and the ability to chose our own way..and many chose the wrong one...that does not mean that God is forgiving whatever they doing.humility IS focus on our weakness!
@gatica1550 God has forgiven all sin, but the reason why sin sucks is because it just does, not because God is punishing them. someone said,"sin is it's own punishment", and i totally agree.
when i said don't focus on our weakness, i'm not saying don't acknowledge weakness exists, but don't get hung up on it and miss on how awesome God is. i believe the reason why people (including myself) sin because they're not looking at God and resting in His love.
" I " think it's a little bit of both... what I mean is humility might be understanding that we are weak without him - that without Him we can do nothing. We have to be aware of that as we focus on God's greatness too. Humility might be acknowledging ourselves as sinners and that we really need God to help us deal with that; which we find beauty in that. & yes sin is defeated
Do keep in mind that I look at this discussion a friendly exchange of words, and not an attack.
@neverbackdown1983.That nice, but at the same time today church focuses too much on super-abounding Grace, where you are once saved and always saved. Teaching on the fact that we are all sinner and wicked is very good for the Believer because if you are a christian you should NOT OR TRY NOT to sin at all, because we have 2present yourself as holy living sacrifice to the Father, therefore repentant of your sin are turn to God whoever you are because He is Faithful and Just to forgive us our sins!
@Itissadday you're missing the point. when the Bible talks about presenting ourselves as living sacrifices (Romans) and repenting because God is faithful and just to forgive us our sins (1 John), it's out of an identity of being forgiven and loved.
trying not to sin is basically a slap in God's face, saying that the cross wasn't enough to make us righteous and that we have to be righteous through our actions.
@neverbackdown1983 I understand where you are coming from but as u said "the more you focus on God's greatness", If I do this which I do every day, the more I realise how much of a sinner I am. I do agree that the Cross has dealed with all sin, but surly contining in sin is slapping God in the face, because if we are a Christian we have died to sin and we have to live in obedience with Christ read Romans6-7 that will make it clear for you. If you continue in sin you are a slave to sin GAL5:19-21
@Itissadday again, like most Christians, you are focusing on performance, not identity. being "dead to sin" is our identity, not what we try to do. God is faithful to forgive us our sins when we do sin, but just because we sin does not make us a sinner. just because i play basketball once in a while doesn't make me a basketball player.
there is no condemnation in Christ; therefore there is no need to walk around trying hard to live righteously and earn His love when we already have it.
@neverbackdown1983 What shall we say, then? Shall we go on sinning so that grace may increase? By no means! We died to sin; how can we live in it any longer? {Rom 6:1-2 NIV} The bible tells us the opposite of what you've said. Christ would have died in vain if we live in sin after salvation. It is taking his death for granted. there is a call to be Holy, a call for righteousness which is possible because we are made righteous through Christ. please read your bible thoroughly -
@slowdancetolife if not you mislead others- basically u just told people sin or else God will not be glorified- another thing that is contradicted in the Bible
@slowdancetolife i'm not condoning sin at all. in fact, i believe sin is its own punishment. but my point is sin no longer separates us from God's love; as Romans 8:38-39 says, nothing shall separate us from God's love. verse one of that chapter says there is no condemnation in Christ.
the verse you quoted, Romans 6:1-2, actually means sin is no longer an issue because if we are in Christ we are dead to sin. if you're dead to something, you are no longer subject to its rule.
@neverbackdown1983@neverbackdown1983 i thought u said to try not to sin is was slapping God in the face- maybe i mixed up ur comment. where are you getting your interpretation from? it does not say sin is not an issue- i know we are dead to sin, i know his spilled blood covers our transgressions, what i was saying is that verse is saying that we shouldn't intentionally sin on the pretense that we will be forgiven, bc that is taking His forgiveness 4 granted.
Galatians 2:20 says we have been crucified with Christ and I no longer live but Christ lives in me. The holiness and righteousness of Christ has been transferred over to us in exchange for our sin nature and demolished by the death and resurrection of Jesus.
Ephesians 2 talks about how we were once enemies with God, but in Christ He has reconciled us and now we are no longer separate from the Father but we are adopted into his family (see also Romans 8:15 and Galatians 4:5).
what people miss in the "living sacrifice" verse is before that it says "in view of God's mercy" or as the New American Standard puts it "by the mercies of God". we present ourselves as living sacrifices after we realize how merciful God is. it's not so we can then obtain God's mercy. we can't obtain something we already have. same with forgiveness; we already have it, therefore we can't try to get it.
@neverbackdown1983 pleaz tell me which chapter and verse cause u have really touched my heart with that... ive always been doing that focusing on my weakness... and God bless u so much for writing that...
This is the message we have heard from Him and announce to you, that God is Light, and in Him there is no darkness at all. If we say that we have fellowship with Him and yet walk in the darkness, we lie and do not practice the truth; but if we walk in the Light as He Himself is in the Light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus His Son cleanses us from all sin.
holiness basically comes through intimacy with Him, not by trying hard to be holy.
@heroblue15 you can't try to be what you already are. Hebrews 10:10 says "we have been made holy through the sacrifice of the body of Jesus Christ once for all".
@neverbackdown1983 You are walking in the wisdom of Grace my friend! Neverback down! It is refreshing to hear the truth revealed in one's comments on line!!! I am blessed by all your comments. The truth you speak of is what sets us free from the "to do" list. praise God! Thank you Jesus!
@neverbackdown1983 but I think Jesus died for the sins we would commit in our ignorance- once the veil is down through our faith- we cannot sin the way we once did.. These are the sins that are very detrimental to our salvation? Does this make sense? sinning is unrighteous and leads to death- Jesus says this He is trying to warn us.
God Bless.
ps- if everyone's sins were covered by the cross.. why would there be a Hell?
@utubin67 this is just my belief, but to put it bluntly, there has to be someplace for people who don't want a relationship with God to go after they die. it would be cruel for God to force people to be with him when they don't want to be.
i also believe sins committed in ignorance actually aren't sin; they're just mistakes. sins are harmful acts we commit knowingly.
@neverbackdown1983 you say "there has to be some place for people to go who don't want a relationship with god" If we don't have any relationship with God we will surely be too impure for Heaven- And Jesus makes this Judgement- Heaven and God are pure- Man must, through faith and God's Grace through a relationship become purer and this will happen but it will take a relationship-
True and False Disciples 21 “Not everyone who says to me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ will enter the kingdom of heaven, but only the one who does the will of my Father who is in heaven. 22 Many will say to me on that day, ‘Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy in your name and in your name drive out demons and in your name perform many miracles?’ 23 Then I will tell them plainly, ‘I never knew you. Away from me, you evildoers!
@utubin67 what i meant when i said there has to be a place for people to go who don't want a relationship with God, that is why i believe there is a hell.
also, i don't recall the Bible saying if we don't have a relationship with God we will be too impure for heaven. can you put a scripture reference for that? because if heaven was only for the "pure" then we'd all be in a bad spot.
@neverbackdown1983 Mathew 25 10-13 "And the door was shut. 11 “Later the others also came. ‘Lord, Lord,’ they said, ‘open the door for us!’ 12 “But he replied, ‘Truly I tell you, I don’t know you.’ 13 “Therefore keep watch, because you do not know the day or the hour.
You said: if heaven was only for the "pure" then we'd all be in a bad spot.
The answer to this is Jesus Christ our Saviour. The relationship saves us.
@neverbackdown1983 Matt 7: 22-33.. i'll let you look it up but it says in vs 23 "...I never knew you; depart from me..." that word 'knew' is a clear and definite reference to a relationship... its the same word used wen mary said to the angel 'how can this be since i 'know' no man?" that word is 'ginosko' in the greek... Christ was saying he never 'knew' them in an intimate relationship.. so they must depart...
@utubin67 no it is heaven or hell...to not serve your Maker is a sin....and because He is a loving God and knows what is best for you then He will always try to get you to come back to Him.....
@MissJess112387 there is a mix up- "neverbackdown1983" said "this is just my belief, but to put it bluntly, there has to be someplace for people who don't want a relationship with God to go after they die. it would be cruel for God to force people to be with him when they don't want to be."
I said "If we do not want to be with Him, I am certain that there is something wrong in us, not in Him- We must turn from this it is part if not whole of our salvation."
@djtebeau i agree with you, although i never brought up the issue of whether we have power or not. my point is instead of focusing on ourselves, we focus on God.
I've Always liked this band. I think they improved upon a song that was already a long time favorite of mine. :) *However* I think it's interesting that they removed verse two by simply repeating verse 1. Why did they do that!? Delirious had no problem singing it but it seems like we charismatics are having an increasingly difficult time talking about our own sins. :(
@mrsauguste don't over think it... I am a worship leader and there have been plenty of times I haven't sang a word or two or a verse for absolutely no reason at all.
@TheDhop7, I agree that over-thinking isn't a good thing. Perhaps, the Spirit led them to sing it this way and if that's the case then more power to them. :D I guess my comment has more to do with the fact that I'm noticing that a lot of Charismatics are purposefully avoiding the subject of sin. Not kewl. :/

FILLED with it.
andwedonotknowhim 1 year ago
@neverbackdown1983 In order to truly focus on God's greatness and majesty, our minds must be pure and we must have clear conscience so that things would not cover our cry out to God. We need to recognize we have victory over sin but also bring it into application to our daily lives and live holy lives dedicated to the cause of Christ.
bleachsociety 1 year ago
@neverbackdown1983 well sin was defeated on the cross ...yeah so that is why people keep doing the wrong stuff because they think that because God was crusified for our sin...we can do whatever we want!!! Well wrong was defeated on the cross yes!!!!! But he wanted us to be like him that is why he gave us a mind, a brain, thoughts and the ability to chose our own way..and many chose the wrong one...that does not mean that God is forgiving whatever they doing.humility IS focus on our weakness!
gatica1550 1 year ago
@gatica1550 God has forgiven all sin, but the reason why sin sucks is because it just does, not because God is punishing them. someone said,"sin is it's own punishment", and i totally agree.
when i said don't focus on our weakness, i'm not saying don't acknowledge weakness exists, but don't get hung up on it and miss on how awesome God is. i believe the reason why people (including myself) sin because they're not looking at God and resting in His love.
neverbackdown1983 1 year ago
@neverbackdown1983

Oh I forgot I also want to add that yes Sin is defeated... We can only find victory in Jesus.

Itissadday 1 year ago
@Itissadday you're missing the point. when the Bible talks about presenting ourselves as living sacrifices (Romans) and repenting because God is faithful and just to forgive us our sins (1 John), it's out of an identity of being forgiven and loved.
trying not to sin is basically a slap in God's face, saying that the cross wasn't enough to make us righteous and that we have to be righteous through our actions.
neverbackdown1983 1 year ago
@neverbackdown1983 I understand where you are coming from but as u said "the more you focus on God's greatness", If I do this which I do every day, the more I realise how much of a sinner I am. I do agree that the Cross has dealed with all sin, but surly contining in sin is slapping God in the face, because if we are a Christian we have died to sin and we have to live in obedience with Christ read Romans6-7 that will make it clear for you. If you continue in sin you are a slave to sin GAL5:19-21
Itissadday 1 year ago
@Itissadday again, like most Christians, you are focusing on performance, not identity. being "dead to sin" is our identity, not what we try to do. God is faithful to forgive us our sins when we do sin, but just because we sin does not make us a sinner. just because i play basketball once in a while doesn't make me a basketball player.
there is no condemnation in Christ; therefore there is no need to walk around trying hard to live righteously and earn His love when we already have it.

@neverbackdown1983 I will agree to disagree with you.

It is taking his death for granted. there is a call to be Holy, a call for righteousness which is possible because we are made righteous through Christ. please read your bible thoroughly -
slowdancetolife 1 year ago
@slowdancetolife if not you mislead others- basically u just told people sin or else God will not be glorified- another thing that is contradicted in the Bible
slowdancetolife 1 year ago
@slowdancetolife i'm not condoning sin at all. in fact, i believe sin is its own punishment. but my point is sin no longer separates us from God's love; as Romans 8:38-39 says, nothing shall separate us from God's love. verse one of that chapter says there is no condemnation in Christ.
the verse you quoted, Romans 6:1-2, actually means sin is no longer an issue because if we are in Christ we are dead to sin. if you're dead to something, you are no longer subject to its rule.
neverbackdown1983 1 year ago
@neverbackdown1983 @neverbackdown1983 i thought u said to try not to sin is was slapping God in the face- maybe i mixed up ur comment. where are you getting your interpretation from? it does not say sin is not an issue- i know we are dead to sin, i know his spilled blood covers our transgressions, what i was saying is that verse is saying that we shouldn't intentionally sin on the pretense that we will be forgiven, bc that is taking His forgiveness 4 granted.
slowdancetolife 1 year ago
Galatians 2:20 says we have been crucified with Christ and I no longer live but Christ lives in me. The holiness and righteousness of Christ has been transferred over to us in exchange for our sin nature and demolished by the death and resurrection of Jesus.
Ephesians 2 talks about how we were once enemies with God, but in Christ He has reconciled us and now we are no longer separate from the Father but we are adopted into his family (see also Romans 8:15 and Galatians 4:5).
neverbackdown1983 1 year ago
what people miss in the "living sacrifice" verse is before that it says "in view of God's mercy" or as the New American Standard puts it "by the mercies of God". we present ourselves as living sacrifices after we realize how merciful God is. it's not so we can then obtain God's mercy. we can't obtain something we already have. same with forgiveness; we already have it, therefore we can't try to get it.

@heroblue15
1 John 1: 5-7
This is the message we have heard from Him and announce to you, that God is Light, and in Him there is no darkness at all. If we say that we have fellowship with Him and yet walk in the darkness, we lie and do not practice the truth; but if we walk in the Light as He Himself is in the Light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus His Son cleanses us from all sin.
holiness basically comes through intimacy with Him, not by trying hard to be holy.

God Bless.
ps- if everyone's sins were covered by the cross.. why would there be a Hell?
utubin67 1 year ago
@utubin67 this is just my belief, but to put it bluntly, there has to be someplace for people who don't want a relationship with God to go after they die. it would be cruel for God to force people to be with him when they don't want to be.
i also believe sins committed in ignorance actually aren't sin; they're just mistakes. sins are harmful acts we commit knowingly.
neverbackdown1983 1 year ago
@neverbackdown1983 but if you don't want a relationship with God why would you want to go to Heaven where He will be for an eternity?
utubin67 1 year ago
@neverbackdown1983 you say "there has to be some place for people to go who don't want a relationship with god" If we don't have any relationship with God we will surely be too impure for Heaven- And Jesus makes this Judgement- Heaven and God are pure- Man must, through faith and God's Grace through a relationship become purer and this will happen but it will take a relationship-

@neverbackdown1983 Matthew 7:21-29 (New International Version, ©2010)

@utubin67 what i meant when i said there has to be a place for people to go who don't want a relationship with God, that is why i believe there is a hell.
also, i don't recall the Bible saying if we don't have a relationship with God we will be too impure for heaven. can you put a scripture reference for that? because if heaven was only for the "pure" then we'd all be in a bad spot.
neverbackdown1983 1 year ago
@neverbackdown1983 Mathew 25 10-13 "And the door was shut. 11 “Later the others also came. ‘Lord, Lord,’ they said, ‘open the door for us!’ 12 “But he replied, ‘Truly I tell you, I don’t know you.’ 13 “Therefore keep watch, because you do not know the day or the hour.
You said: if heaven was only for the "pure" then we'd all be in a bad spot.
The answer to this is Jesus Christ our Saviour. The relationship saves us.
It is work and love.
utubin67 1 year ago
@neverbackdown1983 Matt 7: 22-33.. i'll let you look it up but it says in vs 23 "...I never knew you; depart from me..." that word 'knew' is a clear and definite reference to a relationship... its the same word used wen mary said to the angel 'how can this be since i 'know' no man?" that word is 'ginosko' in the greek... Christ was saying he never 'knew' them in an intimate relationship.. so they must depart...

@neverbackdown1983 Humility is not denying the power we have, it is realizing that the power comes through us, not from us! Peace !!!

mrsauguste 2 years ago 3
@mrsauguste don't over think it... I am a worship leader and there have been plenty of times I haven't sang a word or two or a verse for absolutely no reason at all.
TheDhop7 1 year ago
@TheDhop7, I agree that over-thinking isn't a good thing. Perhaps, the Spirit led them to sing it this way and if that's the case then more power to them. :D I guess my comment has more to do with the fact that I'm noticing that a lot of Charismatics are purposefully avoiding the subject of sin. Not kewl. :/
mrsauguste 1 year ago
@mrsauguste
Talking about one's sin is one thing, SINGING about it in the PRESENT TENSE is another matter.
In addition there is a predicate statement ("I am filthy") that is definitely at odds with the truth of redemption.
i guess they didn't want to bother with changing it so they dropped it.
