come on guys-yeah many girls are in kereoke bars but guess what-they are trying to sound like Sheryl...and they are not Sheryl and that is why Sheryl is the Queen and they arent...neither are any of the haters on this page. This is like saying anyone can be sexy so Madonna shouldnt have her place either-well there is always the original and simply put these women got there before anybody else so they made their mark.
I love this cathode. F what the naysayers are barking about. Wouldn't know good music if it bit 'em in the azz. And I agree her staying true to the song was quite the tribute. One thing about Sheryl, is she has always surrounded herself w/excellence in her band members. That in itself is both smart and beautiful.
People going on about all the "Sheryl Crow haters" need to get a grip. I think she has a great voice, and writes good tunes, but her vocals here just aren't up to what she is capable of. Pointing that out doesn't mean I "hate" her. I doesn't even mean I didn't enjoy this cover version.
Thanks, I just get sick of the negative comments. while I might not be the biggest fan of S. C., she's no doubt good and has acheived a rate of success that speaks for itself. Like only a handful of artists, she can do pretty much what she wants musically.
I liked your comment so I erased the thumbs down, but I would like to point out that just because one isn't as talented or succesful as someone else, one can still give their opinion on something. And if something is really bad (not that this is), one should be able to say that, no matter how untalented they are.
Nothing wrong with this song OR Sheryl Crow. Some of these "expert" critics would find fault with any song and any version. Or is it the fact that she dares to do a cover of a sacred song? I wonder how many of the haters are even as remotely talented or as successful as Sheryl Crow. My guess would be less than one. Yeah, I've always liked the original but sometimes it's nice to hear a fresh also.
I don't give a shit what anybody says Sheryl Crow & her band do a kick ass version of this song... of course it's not beter than Joe Walsh & the James Gang's version but shit it's still pretty kick ass...
@cathoderoy No, Cath. I'm basing it on the fact that she has no stage presence, is boring as hell, and may as well be singing in a high school talent show. Watch Pat Benatar sing and perform and you'll know what I mean about having stage presence.
Sheryl is just lame. Period. God knows why she's even still on the scene. Maybe she's a nice person, but her music has no energy and is processed crap. Like Burger King.
I have to agree plus her vocals are "flat"...she almost hits all the notes, but not quite. And that just sounds like crap. Go to any karoke bar and you can hear lots of gals who sing the same as Sheryl did in this video. And such lame dynamics...she sounds like she would rather be polishing her nails than up on stage trying to sing in tune, which she doesnt pull off.
Great version. It's a classic "been done wrong" song and Sheryl does the lyrics really well. The band hits just the right tempo as well. Nice and Troggs-ish.
I tend to look askance at women singers who cover high-toned male vocalists' songs, because nothing good is easy. I think this song is vocally too easy for Sheryl Crow.
without the guy on the SG, and his vocal harmonies, this would be a total failure. But, give her a break; she just looks exhausted...maybe she was at the Tour De France the night before blowin' Mr. One Ball.
gawd awful, the douche bag killed one of his best songs....couldn't even get half way through it,I feel like I'm gonna puke---all over her lame ass head
As much as I do think Sheryl Crow IS, in fact, talented and has a great voice, she really has a knack for sucking the life and spark out of classic songs. Cat Stevens, James Gang, etc. This cover is just plain bland.
This doesn't stand a chance against the original! The vocals are WAY off, and there is NO energy! Why even try to cover the energy and greatness of The James Gang if you can't do it perfectly?
This SUCKS!!! She has none of the intensity that Joe sang with. She sounds like she's about to take a little nap at any minute. CRAP! Women shouldn't sing guy songs because they are guy songs. Cover Stevie Nicks or Heart.
Hmm, it's ok, I definitely prefer the original...it's not like she hurt it, but it ain't right after hearing it by Joe Walsh so many times over the years.
A good cover but its not lacks the raw energy of the James Gang, especially in the drums, guitar and vocals (and bass) . But in all fairness the James Gang was a lot younger and hungrier back then.
Peter Stroud here on lead guitar..He does a great job..No one can play the drums like Jim Fox though. He put alot of passion and energy into his playing.
word, Cath, word. as for the middlin, mediocre talent thing, I guess that's why loads of various musicians invite her to sit in on sessions not only for her voice but her skills on the ax.
Say what you will, but the lady has talent, looks, brains and she can can damn well rock as hard as the best of them.
I love the JG version of this, ever since I heard it in the mid-70s... this cover is spot-on, except for Cheryl's vox: The band is kickin it, but she's singing it with her own dentist's-office-music delivery, which has no dirt or grease or bite at all. Come on, Cheryl-- dig your panties outa your ass and sing this song with some BALLS! Other than that, nice cover.
She fucking sucks.Sorry but every remake she does sounds like shit. She tries to make it energetic and improvised but it really is boring and always sounds rehearsed a million times.I guess dumb fucks nowadays can't tell the difference though so who cares.
I saw Sheryl Crow LIVE and was but a mere 5 feet away from her. This was when she was just starting to promote Tuesday Night Club. In a word, she was OK but they HYPE surrounding her was RIDICULOUS. This woman has some talent but she is NOT this big star that the media made her out to be. And most fans were duped into believing it. This version is OK but pales to the original.
Granted I'm not into cover versions and that Sheryl isn't a blues/funk/power trio person but I wished I could have seen her perform at Fraze in Dayton,Ohio several years ago. Her style, sound and magic is a throw-back to the late 60s and early 70s. Her singing style is laid back and makes you want to put your feet up on a stool on the front porch with a guitar and jam all day long on a lazy summer day. Cute gal too!
They should have done something completely original because the band is matching the James Gang pretty closely, but Crow's singing is too mellow and ruins it. If her band played a country beat it would have been better, but her choice of covers have been atrocious.
i know dude she just did it the way she does her own songs witch i thing is cool when a band covers a oldy they put their own style into it so its not the same thing you always here
Sherry Crow has too be the shittiest major performer out today. She sucks the soul and life out of everything she touches. A C- act for sure. Her "covers" are incredibly lousy!!!!!!!!!
Just my opinion, but Cheryl is not good live, period. I love Joe Walsh and do not hold it against her for playing this song, she does fine. I LOVE her stuff, but in concert, it just doesn't fly too well.
Yep Sheryl is definetly better lookin' than Joe, great performance here, love James Gang. My only gripe is the drummer does'nt come close to the James Gang's dude on the skins.
SHe fuck'n RUINED IT!! Like she always does with cover songs.Sheryl: try and write something original that reflects your favorite cover songs!Otherwise stick to YOUR own songs!
