GRR!! If that wasn't a movie and i was there i will protect those 2 horses! Some people who lives for...they just try to get horses for them thats it! In real life a lot of people lives doing that! Getting the mother or father from little animals away from them!!!! They dont understand the pain the little animals feel, they have feelings too! they are all like us!! And even worst the little black stallion hasn't stoped drinking milk already! I dont know how people do that! we must not do that!!!

I read the actual book "The Young Black Stallion" By: WALTER FARLEY.The movie is awesome, But the book is WAY better.And it's really sad in the book because the author died half way through the book and his son had to finish it for him... :(

Aww. My horse that I had for 14 years died last March (2010). His name was Rocky and he was a black Tennessee Walker/Quarter Horse cross. This movie reminds me of him :( RIP Rocko boy

He also wrote fictitious western stories which he presented as his true life tales. But people who have researched Hopkins' life have found that he never did any of the things he claimed to do,

@Luniiex they were going try get both of them but apparently the foal was too fast for them to catch and ran up into the mountains and so they said it was dead or something like that :) they were trying to get both but the foal ran too fast :)

White horses do exist, they are just hard to find. Most horses considered white are actually grey (black/dark skin under the white coat) but real white horses with pink skin under the coat and often lighter eyes do exist.

@Megsiiee if you look it up, there is NO such thing as a white horse, only fea bitten and different types of lighter grays are considered white. In order for a horse to be considered white, it has to have no other colors on them, including the pinking on the nose, in which the closest you could get to a white horse is cremello, but they have pink eyes and slight pinking on the muzzle. Thus, there is no such thing as a "white" horse, only horses close to white.

@bayboysgirl83 LOL wow hun have you got it wrong - I don't use whips or spurs and have the time I don't even use reins or a saddle. I teach the old fashioned way, which means I do it through body signals and not force and that's how my kids are taught too

btw, I've ridden Pedigo Chevrolet's horse ;) I'm his rider so if I "abused horses" I would not be on that very expensive horse so hahahahahaha

Pretty horses, cute kid, great scenery - but that's about it. Walter Farley refused movie offers for 35+ years, until Francis Ford Coppola, one of the greatest filmmakers in history, sat down with him and assured him he would not sensationlize it, but stay true to the story and the characters. Mr. Farley would be rolling in his grave right now if he could see what Disney had done. The filmmakers got EVERYTHING wrong.

technically no. the grey gene is dominant yes. but for every feature there is always 2 parts. the mother may have had a grey and black gene and simply not passed the grey one on.

i read the comment you've removed. why did you remove it? but just so you know:

every characteristic in a being is controlled by 2 alleles 2! a dominant allele (like the grey) shows up if it is present. no matter what.

this also means it can hide or mask another variation of the same gene(like black) so the mother could be "carrying" black and therefore produce a black foal.

i don't know horse genetics. but the principal is exactly the same.

she may have passed on the black gene and combined with the father's black gene created a black foal. (i don't know horse genetics - but it's the same principal as almost every living creature.) i know a bit about genetics coz i breed budgies for the show bench. it's the same principal.

eg blue is recessive to green in budgies but a green parent who has a blue gene when paired with another bird with a blue gene they can produce blue birds. (i've seen it so you cannot dispute it with me ^^ )
