I fucking hate when you're reading someone's comment, and it's going along fine, and you're agreeing with them, and then at the end you realize it was all just to plug some goddam song they recorded and posted on their channel. If you agree, check out the folk song I recorded and posted on my channel!
not bad, but the vocals are too massive. The dreamy, a bit nebulous vocals of the original give it that lightness and sense of floating or riding along in a train seeing the country outside zooming by. This is more the chug of a bumpy ride.
Oh my god. I had no idea Ben Gibbard sang this. I've had this song on my ipod for like a year, know all the words and still didn't even know. I feel like an idiot.....
@IndieMusicFan13 i did that with the postal service the very first time i heard it. felt like an idiot after being a death cab fan for a year back then.. hahaha
okay... ben gibbard is an actual music genius who will go down in history. he has his own thing going on, he's so original, and all his lyrics are amazing. death cab and the postal service are badass
I love the original version as well, don't get me wrong. It's just...Feist's voice is so wholesome, emotional, and yes - haunting. But at the same time, I agree with FarbiarniaNiebo; it does have a greater sense of anxiousness, a more positive one. Ben Gibbard is a nice little touch too. :)
@ConsumptionMayCause Ben Gibbard is not the singer of Owl City. He has no affiliation with it whatsoever. Adam Young is the one to "blame", so to speak.
this is how i feel a cover should be done. Not trying to mimic the original to the extent that there is no purpose but to do it in somehow your own way. This version and the original are just beautiful.
I agree. I really like this cover but emotions are deffnetly different . When I listen Bunyan i think about loneliness and sorrow. I really feel it in every cell of my body ;)
When i listen this version , I hear joy, adventure and, I dont now, waiting for something amazing...? sorry , I know my english isn't good...
I agree completely. This doesn't have the same chilling loneliness of the original. Although it has a similar "bare" sound, having more vocal and musical accompaniment deviates from the spirit of the original. Also since it's more stylized and folksy the singing and music in this one go together in way to make it almost a normal upbeat folk song. What makes the original stand out is Vashti's forlorn siren call is front and center while the music merely serves to paint a desolate background.
It is a Vashti Bunyan Cover, an amazing, and not very well known Folk Singer. This cover sucks if you ask me, nothing compares to Vashti's melancholy yet beautiful voice.
this is incredibly beautiful and their voices work so beautiful together...this song is haunting and i can't take it all! i absolutely love it!! thank you leslie fiest and ben gibbard! you both are amazing and don't even understand how you've touched my life through music! xoxoxo!!! thank you dark was the night for being one of the best compilations ever, EVER.
Wow there are some ignorant comments on here. Ben Gibbard is a lyrical/musical genius. This song is beautiful none the less and Feist has such an angelic voice.
You're right. It's a cover of "the train song" by Vashti Bunyan. If you look beneath the video you will see "This is a video response to Vashti Bunyan - Train Song ". Vashti Bunyan has a huge number of good songs and I recommend that you check out her albums Just Another Diamond Day and Lookaftering. I like this cover, though. Feist's voice is amazing.
ben gibbard is the lead singer of death cab for cutie and lead singer of THE POSTAL SERVICE, not mention he played with jenny lewis, david bathron, jothan rice, and so many other bands like tegan and sara.
I never knew this was a cover until some minutes ago. I have been attached to this song for a week now, it is so beautiful. I listened to the original and was kind of disappointed :( I really want to like it, but her voice does nothing for me.
Wow I love Ben Gibbard I never really got the big deal about Feist cuase the one iPod advert that sounds like every other retro esque song you know but this made like her! I don't know why it reminds me of fleetwood mac ? odd
Traveling North, traveling North 2 find u Train wheels beating, the wind in my eyes Don't even know what I'll find when I get 2 u Call out your name love, don't be surprised It's so many miles & so long since I've met u Don't even know what I'll find when I get 2 u But suddenly now, I know where I belong It's many hundred miles but it won't be long What will I do if there's someone w/ you Maybe someone you've always known How do I know I can come & give 2 you Love w/ no warning & find you alone
