Okay, I agree with most of what you said... but it's not about her being damaged. It's about her being in love with the guy mistreating her. If she was interested in the guy whose shoulder she's crying on she would be with him. He is the person she gets the male perspective and attention. That guy is in the friend zone and it's highly unlikely that he'll ever got out of there.

She has to first fall head over heals in love with herself, so that confidence isn't something she has, but something she is. Then and only then will her perception of this relational charade and task master situation come to a end for all.
