  • I know we have foxtel now, well I don't, but I used to miss the old Channel 9 highlights packages of each day's play that used to be on late each night of a test or ODI, which is what I assume this is from Rob. Half hour for interstate tests and the full hour when they used the pull the old no live coverage till 3.40 bullshit for home city tests. Seriously good knock, that last four down the ground, sweet. Pity about the Reid injury when Mo Matthews bolts in to celebrate the wicket.

  • Thanks Rob for a wonderful video! Srikanth had elastic wrists, better than Azar or VVS. Some of the drives off Bruce Reid were stunning. And thanks to the video, a very young Steve Waugh was seen too! Once Srikanth was seen playing Bruce Reid without helmet! Some guts!

  • great upload - I think I could score a ton against that attack!

  • one thing can be said for sure whenever srikanth scored India won.

  • I remember for some reason, Doordarshan (Indian state tv) at that time, did not show the Test series on tv. Just had be content with Radio Australia commentary on AIR or RA.

BTW, you managed to preserve these video's on VHS all these yrs??? WOW...thanks for the upload...:)

  • @zxzv1 Yeah I have all that 80's stuff on VHS tapes even still, they hold up well.

  • @robelinda2 Thanks for the info. I guess, there's no humidity or pollution to damage the VHS tapes or VCR.

  • They used some skinny bats back then.

  • Srikatnth's concentration was gone when he played that shot and got out or otherwise it was not a wicket taking ball.

  • Pause at 6:55 to see a very young Steve Waugh !

  • Thanks for this. It's a bit of a puzzle where he got all this power from. He's not a big dude like Botham or Viv Richards. I remember him sometimes hitting impossible sixes with hardly any backlift and no footwork. Certainly not a boring player.

  • Srikanth was the sehwag of 80s but viru is far more consistent than Srikanth.

  • @randomspider at least hes got better feet movement which would help him score runs all over the world unlike sewaq who only scores in India.... we clearly saw everything, inlcuding the king pair..

  • @JFK2684 : Mate I aint compare Srikanth with Sehwag. but given his strength, its pity that Srikanth averages less than 30 in both tests and odi. Chikka is my fav player too.... And one bad series, doesnt make Viru , a bad player. He's proved himself by scorin runs in tougher conditions.

  • @randomspider in what condition?... most of his runs are scored from subcontinent where foot movement is not required at all.... stand and hit, like baseball.....

  • @randomspider i'm not a big fan of Srikkanth but i think he was better than Sehwag especially against the short ball.

  • @randomspider lol, he is the pioneer of Pinch hitting in ODI cricket, what comparison are you making between players of two different era's... he entertained as good as any other cricketer period

  • I was at the ground watching this when I was 9 years old. I remember some shots were hit so hard that I'd hear the crash of the ball into the boundary fence before I could even work out where it had gone. The only thing that can detract from this innings is that it was against a poor Test bowling attack.

  • wht confidence in his shot!!!

  • great batting by Srikanth..excellent. Tendulkar may hav got the straight drive from him!!?

  • great innings !
