  • There are several spots that sound a little bit different from the album. I don't think its an accident, I think he just changed how he plays the song a little bit over the years.

  • From what DVD is this video?

  • "Do the leaves of green stay greener, in the autumn?"

  • He is very messy on the classical. It sounds ok with a bass and keyboard behind him. Otherwise...he should use it for firewood.

Sorry folks.....once over, he was my hero too...but I now know better.

    This is very poor.

He still remains my fav exponent on the Gibson.

  • @Gangly1 Thanks for giving us your expert opinion. Now, let us alone, imaginining things with the beautiful music COMPOSED by this genius, please. Thanks in advance.

  • @Yesshows01 I know a lot of composers that can't play their own compositions very well....but that is beside the point. Take a look at YT user (yea78861). You will find better versions of most of Yes's back catalogue...played by only two people....multi-instrumentalists that are far more deserving of praise than this poor outing. Please don't get me wrong. As I said, Mr Howe was a hero of mine too....but Chris has him beat for cleanliness, especially on the solo stuff on his own site.

  • @Gangly1 So what? I have a midi program in my laptop that can reproduce sounds better, faster, and more precise than any human being. Music is an art, it has to do with feelings, not only with technical matters. When yea78861 or whoever you mention be able to Compose and perform like Steve Howe, we can talk who is better or worst. This is not a competition. Do you know what I mean? Poor outing? Maybe you can do it better. Upload some cideos from you playing at least like Steve Howe.

  • @Yesshows01

You will find Mood For A day in my Videos.

It's not great, but I have a day job!

  • @Gangly1 Your performance on Mood for a day, i too good. I don´t thin it is not great. Congratulations.

  • @Yesshows01

    Cheers mate.

If you like forays into classical guitar by rock guitarists, you will also like Fingertalkin' by Rik Emmett of Triumph.

It is also in my vids.

    But, Clap still eludes me!!

    Take care.

    P

  • @Gangly1 I think you can't compare the difficult of what Chris do , and what Steve do. Play Steve's parts is a lot more hard than Chris's parts, it´s not comparable.

  • @Gangly1 You made me gag on my drink with laughter! Howe plays poorly enough on his classical that he should use it for firewood? I think you share that opinion with about three other people on the planet. The four of you should get together and go bowling.

As for someone else with a website who "has Howe beaten for cleanliness," can your buddy write stuff like this and then play it with authority night after night in front of 20,000 people? I'll have to see it to believe it.

  • @tonusaitis

Yea78861 aint my buddy. I just admire his guitar playing.

More to the point...this is a clip from a DVD that is supposed to portray Steve Howe's brilliance. I don't doubt that this took more than one take...and this is the best one??

Come on guys....in those circumstances...it is far from clean/polished/professional..etc.

Just admit it! Then we can talk about the great stuff he used to play.

  • @Gangly1 I really don't understand what you're seeing that is so wrong here. This is simply a lesson for guitarists who want to see an "up close" on how SH plays the material in a live setting, not a 100% perfect (doctored) recording without the slightest squeak or string noise. By the way, I've checked out Yea78861 and his covers are riddled with wrong notes, incorrect phrasing, and unsteady tempos. You don't see any of that and truly think those covers are better than this SH video? Geez

  • Anyone know of tabs for this portion of the song? I have the beginning worked out, (called "The Ancient" here on YouTube), but can't find tabs for the portion in this video- =0)

  • What is called science by the *science-worshippers* of the present age and regarded by them as equivalent to the sum total of *reality*, is simply a collection of laws applicable to a single dimension of the world. The result of all human effort and experimentation is a body of knowledge concerning a minute bright dot comparable to the dim light of a candle-surrounded by a dark night enveloping a huge desert of indefinite extent.

All praise is due to ALLAH, the Lord of the Universe.

  • Love It. Looovvve IT! (especially the part from 1:11 to 1:42 but its all good) Nobody else plays like Howe.

  • @HasinaiMan i like the part from 0:00 to 2:19

  • Mr Howe, this song is called The Ancient

  • zero dislikes! yes good!

  • I am 45 and have played guitar for 35 or those years, and will never touch this mans mastery of guitar and would think it ridiculous to even try..

Steve you are THE master .. thanks you for these lessons... Your music matters..

  • @sunburned2 WHO CAN

  • Pure magic!♥

    Steve:GENIOUS...

  • I take inspiration from your work. Thanks

  • If they're into rap (crap)-they are hopeless.

  • I play this for my high school students- an oppostiion to their rap.

Perhaps they will see the talent?

  • wow, way to put the wrong name of the song... :S

  • That actually was not even my thought. Was not making the (dis)connection. More concerned about the artist behind the instrument.

Oh well, I have beeen wrong before and thats something it seems users on these threads have a hard time admitting . Why do you suppose that is?

  • Donovan, Steve Howe is the one that posts these.

I think he may just know what the titles are.

    Oh, thank you Steve.

Got to see you in the 70's. And if I remember correctly on a few of those occassions , Donovan was the opening act. Thank you for all the wonderful music.

  • @MrPeggyo Sorry to inform you, but you are wrong. If you go to the YouTube channel for HoweEs175, it clearly states that, although the video IS of Howe, he, the poster, HoweEs175, is just a fan.

  • I love to watch Steve play. Was on the second row at one of the YES concerts and got to watch him throughout. Such a master! Such a perfect musician!

  • This is The Ancient, sorry Not The Revealing Science of God. But thanks for the vid! ^-^

  • amazing...thanks for post.

  • Steve, I've been hoping you'd post this some day. What a nice Christmas present! See you in Chicago at the HOB in 2010. Happy 40th Anniversary!

  • Steve Howe, one of the top 5 guitarists alive and top 10 easy of all time. He is under-rated by the rock world in general but all good musicians and bands know exactly who and what this man can do. He is amazing and revolutionized so much of what you can and cannot do in a ROCK song. This man can do anything with no effort at all. He is beautiful, live and in studio. These vids are fantastic for the learning guitarists. Lucky to have these posted and that he hasn't had them removed.

  • Nice! Where I can find this Steve Howe interactive CD-Rom?

  • Thank you Steve for sharing this wonderful creation of your music

  • The revealing science of god///

    Should not be THE ANCIENT

  • Thanks Steve...probably my favorite part of Tales from Topgraphic Oceans.

  • nice n toasty.

thank you once again mr steve howe

  • Though this world be cursed, we are

blessed to have lived in the time of Steve

    Howe, and YES!

  • true, today's music is a disaster, except this, Yes has never ceased to amaze us. Soft as a Dove (Magnification) reminds me the remembering and the revealing science of god, though it is a tiny 2-minute song, but it is very sweet like the ancient

  • Little note on the video description: this excerpt is from The Ancient, not The Revealing Science of God. Regardless, a fantastic version.

  • the first part is the revealing sciece of god, Steve Howe did an exerpt from tales from topographic oceans in the 90s, I don´t know in what concert but mixed some parts of the album, in this video there is only one small part of the acustic solo, Steve also sings and it listen very well to be honest :D

  • Sorry but this is all from The Ancient.

  • Yes - Topographic Oceans

  • A lovely song in Steve's vintage style. Its a lovely theme.

  • Bless you Steve Howe!

  • Beautiful
