Actually it isn't continental's "main hub". It is their second largest hub behind Houston. It is a large operation, no doubt. Continental's current company profile on their website indicates 686 daily departures from IAH vs 422 for EWR. (1st quarter 2009).

What I'm guessing is that it came in over night, then was sitting at the gate overnight, by looking a time of day, I'm guessing maybe 1 to 2 hours

Its actually between gates 81 and 83. Gate 84 is on the other side of the concourse.
