I liked this idea a lot when I saw this video some days ago but havent looked into it because I hadnt decided if I would use something like this regularly enough for its purpose. I've checked out the place just now, it look fun. How has it been going so far, out of curiosity?
@fulishproductions It's going fine. These things always take a while to build. They're so much more intimate in the sense that it is a relatively small group of people getting to know one another better and exploring topics which interest them. It is fun, though if you're not a member you won't see most of it since I've made it for members only so we can speak more freely. Join only if you wish, but there are no expectations from doing so.
@Loreleila From your post titled privacy: "But personally I would like to feel I can share relatively freely without the concern that prying eyes may be looking in without having any input themselves"
YES W/O INPUT that is so terrible! Good good good excellent yes thank you.
@Loreleila splendid!....i really think you should advertise the fact, free eats are a sure fire way of attracting clientele...i,m sure gratex would be there like a shot at the offer of a jammy dodger :0)
One feature I would like to have on YT is to have a link to click on in a comment when said commenting person desires to wax forth further than the character limit. This way it reduces the annoyance some serial texting types can create while yet providing a way for those interested to read & comment in a linked forum w/o character limits. One wouldn't have to be a "forum type" to participate as this could be used as needed -- but suspect this may not fit the business model of YT.
@gedgetips I suppose what you are creating could be used in this way to a point, since a person in a writing mood could mention where to go for further details in a comment section, as this could be handy for those who don't otherwise have blog sites and who don't do enough writing at length to justify setting up their own site. However, don't think one can post links in comments & so this might not be that practical unless the vid maker provides a link & makes a blog contribution w/ vid.
@gedgetips There are certainly ways to tie it in, Commenting here is so very limited and communication so unequal but I'm not sure it would work all that well to use with links. However, if both parties were a member of the forum they could go there to carry on. All you'd need is a 'see you on the forum' comment.
@Loreleila Yeah. And, I'm a noob. I've never been as connected as I am lately. Wallowing in Input-overload, is one way to put it. I hope the new forum is a success, as long as it doesn't prove such a success that you stop making Movies... If that makes sense ?
@Loreleila G'day... Well, it sounds a trifle quirky ; but if I had a Keyboard, rather than a Thumbpad, I'd be tempted. I used to average 18 Typewritten Let. Ed's printed annually in the local Paper. For 15 years. Until I became a Tuber, electrovegetating away at the World. I find the text-limit of the Comments theraputic for my verbosity, & avoidance of Blocks & Flags encourages Politeness. Humility, even. Not as showy as writing Haiku, but telegrammatic.
Talking face to face has one major drawback: most people can't listen to more than half a sentence before they feel the need to interrupt. I never did get into forums. I want to read everything, but I'm too slow. It's frustrating. Comment sections on YT usually aren't too long for me to get through. Chatrooms work well for me, if there aren't so many people typing that I can't keep up with the scroll. You get the back and forth of face to face conversations without all the interruptions.
@thethegreenmachine I think forums are an art. In a similar way to videos here being current but people having a back catalogue, so are conversations on forums. That's the best way I've foudnd to approach it anyway. But as you point out it's finding what works for you and there are a range of options. I'm not a fan of chatrooms myself.
@waterspindle There's lots of change, most of it to the detriment of the user. Thanks for the encouragement. It certainly isn't intended to replace here, it couldn't, but it's really nice to have an alternative, somewhere you can go deeper if you like.
Oh those Crocuses are beautiful and so early. We have them here in The North East. We are soon going to officially be in Late Winter by my criteria, February being what I consider the last Winter month. Its so good. I've heard your idea about a forum
@gizzytiersen I feel spring just round the corner. It's claimed a lot of people get depressed at this time of year but I find before Christmas much harder, when it's going to go on forever plus you have all the endless consumerist tat. I feel hopeful now.
You'd be most welcome at the forum if you're ever so inspired.

@WarblesOnALot With the facilities you have I can see it would be impossible so it doesn't sound quirky, just logical.

the remnant feeling i've gotten is that youtube has changed.
not just the new layout (subscribe, feeds, etc.)
not just rigamarole. good idea. if you've maintained a valuable
band of followers, this is, IMHO, a good addition to your v-logs =)
