  • awww cool , i live there !! =)

  • What a village

  • Tears sting my eyes at each play of Shanagolden. It evokes memories of conflict long ago but not forgotten.

  • If this song doesn't bring tears to your eyes, something is wrong with you.

  • My comment was that this is a beautiful song.If some people decide to look for other meaning in a BEAUTIFUL SONG,they are missing the point,as you seem to be.

  • my comment was that this was "a great song".

don't know what you mean by "other meaning" ?

songs like this one & others like 'Kevin Barry', 'The boys of Kilmichael', etc. are not considered very PC, you know.

you rarely hear them on RTE.

    & i don't think i'm "missing the point,"

  • Beautiful really beautiful !

  • Pure magic!

  • This is plain and simple A BEAUTIFUL SONG.Why do people look for other agenda?Well sung and beautiful video.Gura mile maith agat.

  • what "other agenda?"

are you by any chance thinking of Conor Cruise O'Brien ??

well - he had an agenda - he & his many revisionist admirers would not approve of this fine song.

  • a great song by the late, great Sean McCarthy

& a wonderful rendition, that i believe Sean would have approved of.

it is sad to think that there are many influential individuals in our country, who have endeavoured to have songs such as this banished forever.

Sean Éireann na nGael go deo !!

  • This woman is as good as any Irish folk singer, perfect diction and true to the melody, well done from Ard Mhacha.

  • Thank you soooo much for this....it means the world to me as my grandfather was just buried in shanagolden and this song was played at the end of his funeral. But to see my home that is soo far away is amazing. Granda was taken through the village and it also shows the spot where Granda is resting now. THANK YOU for such a precious gift x

  • I hope you don't mind me commenting, but I wwish you all the best, this song is so very beautiful, and means so much to you.

    Take care, and bless you.

Glad the song gave you the solace you needed.

  • Great stuff Peggy. fair play to you, this is the kind of song that Irish t.v. and radio refuses to play, yes, they are ashamed of their own music and history, when I'm high king of Ireland I'll have ballads going all day on the wireless and telly.

  • still confused as i thought the song referred to Captain Tim Madigan... but the song says"young willie" also the date on memorial is December while the song says he died "on a lonely summer night"... can anybody supply the identity of "young willie" thanks again clarebannerman for posting... terrific song...well done p.s.
