He may not have been the greatest tactical leader but according to the men of Easy Company, his training directly contributed to their success. The man is a hero in my book. The poor guy shot himself and ended up blind and died in a VA hospital without any funeral or service. Don't spit on the mans grave. Especially if you don't know what you're talking about.

I read that in the 90's Bill Gaurneer tried to make contact with Sobel and even paid his dues for the organization Guarneer and the other E Company guys were in, but Sobel stayed bitter his whole life about losing his command and wouldn't see him. He died a lonely man and at his funeral not even his ex wife showed up. Just goes to show how you treat people will be remembered a long time.
@ezyas1234 the Jacket worn by Sobel is actually the Type B-3 Heavy flying jacket. The single right front pocket gives it away. This was superseded in 1944 by the ANJ-4. The intermediate flying jacket Type B-6 was similar looking to B-3 except it was less bulky and had two front slash pockets. Both Jackets had collar straps which would have hung down when unfastened. However these don't appear on the one featured in the scene.

He didn't even have time to pick up a spoon after the bullet, and the silver ware exploded out of his pack, ripping it to shreds, but it saved his life. True Story.

Sobel was a peice of s**t, the men of Easy Co hated him so much they wanted to kill him in France & blame it on the Germans.
On live-fire exercises the men would also fire rounds past Sobel very close to his head.
Sobel was hopeless at map reading. One of the men really was a excellent mimic.
The incident with the fence actually happened at night. I just referred to my copy of 'Band of Brothers' for the info.
This way Pvt Luz got away with the trick.
