This is what Bon Jovi was all about, and should still be about. Don´t get me wrong, I love them today also but the feelling isn´t the same. The biggest reason to that in my opinion is that Jon is nowadays way too cautious with his voice live. He should do it like he used to. When he sings more "on the edge", there´s much more emotional impact.
@nausso jon doesn't want to completely lose his voice, also jon didn't really have confident in his voice ,2000 -2007 and at the end of lost highway tour,i am sorry to say but jon sounded like crap, and he knew it too.the circle tour, his voice has become impressive especially during hallelujah, always, and the note change on livin on a prayer
you guys can discuss all you want.. the point is that this is just a amazingly good performance by the jovi guys.. there aren't many bands who can perform live like this.. to me it's just amazing.. speechless!
Outstanding performance, remarkable voice! Too bad he wouldn't or couldn't sing like that anymore nowadays... still, all my respect for these guys, they're all true musicians! It doesn't even matter that much which note Jon hit, anyway most of the viewers don't even understand what those letters and numbers mean, what counts is that it sounded amazing and he proved once again how talented he is!
now a day for jon is dificult almost imposible to sing those highest notes but in this video he is great, is one of the best song of bon jovi this one
Wow, thats cool...I'm a drummer and I know a little about vocals and all, but that is above what I know... Let's get some posts of "Never Say Goodbye" with the full band..although I think they only played it that way during the Slippery tour
You guys are actually shortchanging him ... That's an Eb6, not Eb5. (middle C is C4. Eb5 if the note he sings in the final refrain of Living on a Prayer without falsetto. This note is a full octave higher.
To clarify: the confusion comes from the fact that only the bottom two notes on a piano are laballed with a "0". It goes A0, B0, then C1, D1, E1 . . . etc.
I'd love to know exactly what you guys are all talking about. All I can say is that I think the screams from JBJ at the end of this vid are the highest i've heard from him.
Really? Is it on utube? I know of a performance of that song, in 1989 in london where he does a mixed voice belt - it's on utube. Not sure if it's quite that high though.
Hey, evodevo69. I was only B.S.'ing about the Jon Hitting the "b6-eb4....." I made that up, because I saw this when I was 3/4 drunk. ...LOL I saw this about 4 times since then and only have to say that you are accurate with what you state about this clip, but it actuall, appears, after I heard the original recording of this song 25 or so times, that he does one note, or octave higher here. This is the best shown live performance of this song. Thanks for posting.
In actuallity, he's hitting a non-vocallic b6-eb4 porlamic note. He chose to hold back. But my b6-eb4 porlamic notations seem accurate as my producer states.
hey guys i know a thrick to sing g6 high notes, just swallow your voice, it sounds like a scream with microphone at live, just try. And if you are doubt about what i said give you e-mail and i will sent a clip voice of me singing the g6 high notes of john in Lets make it baby.
. Encorporating the SWW tour, hunderds of shows without a lot of time for vocal recuperation, makes the harder, even moreso, and strenuous on the vocal chords. Hope this answered your question :)
Singing this, is achievable, I can do it, sometimes, if I'm warmed up and stuff, but doing this once is one thing. Doing it night after night, for a year, or was SWW tour 2? Anyways, doing this amongst a three hour set, a couple of hundred times in a row, is where his problem came in.
To sum up, the keychange takes hard to harder, making it difficult enough.
Yup that's true but as a singer performing i'll tell you that even great singers can develop bad habits. What i mean is that years of singing da same song over & over again for a singer will eventually develop some bad habits when interpreting da song.that is why when u see a singer perform his song for da first many few times live it sounds as good as da studio version but over da years he performs da song in a different way....
Mixed voice is still using the strength and force of chest, so it's working your chords hard. A normal, trained male, tenor rather than a bass, would find A4 the top, and difficult note in their chest voice range.
Now, it's a small enough key change, but it's taking an already high, and difficult phrase, to an extreme. I wouldn't class the key change bit as chest voice however, i would say it's more what I would call mixed voice. Mixed voice is basically, most of the power of chest, but with some resonance in the head. Basically, head voice doesn't strain your vocal chords untill you maybe go to the B5 area, after this going into superhead, and eventually whistle.
Oh right, no. In the original studio demo, there's key change of a minor third taking the word "will" from the phrase " and i, will love you, baby" as an example, up from b4 to d5 after the bridge.
You seem like you actually know what your talking about since you're studying music - I might as well ask :P. I've always wanted to know, what notes does Jon actually sing on the key change of Living on a Prayer? I only ask because this key change is why Jon hates the song, it is what almost destroyed his voice during the first half of the SWW tour, and it's the part that they've had to use a "sample track" live since then. Just wondering...why is this key change so difficult?
FUCK it didn't post. Anyways, I'm a pianist, 13 years, and a trained vocalist :) Right, here we go again. In LOAP, the first few "Whoahoh, livin' on a prayer" are going from B4-C5 and back down. This in itself is already difficult, in chest voice. When the key change kicks in, it goes up a minor third again, making it "Whoahoh livin on a prayer" going D5-D#5 and back down.
I think I'm hearing E6 in this live one. And he hits D5 in chest in the original studio demo of Always on 100, 000 ,000 Bon Jovi Fans Can't Be Wrong, Disc 4
You mean at the very end of the song where he's just singing "yea" or "ah" (not words)?? Hey, you should watch the "I'll be there for you (live)" video of mine, his screaming is way cooler than in this video...whether or not he hits higher notes, I don't know, I just know that his voice sounds like it could be richie playing some riffs! Amazing I tell you.
Eb5 for a head voice belt isn't that much, in my opinion. Now E6 for a head voice belt, is mighty fine. In the original demo of Always, Jon's hitting D and E5 i think, in full chest voice. Now THAT'S impressive. That's quite strange in this, I can hear the E5 and sometimes I'm hearding E6. Hmm...
So it is Eb5! Lol, dude, you might as well check out my other vids and tell us what notes he hits in those ones - particularly "there for you" and "let's make it baby".
Now that was a fantastic performance! He put so much soul in it. I'm really impressed, this is probably one of the best lives I've ever listened to. And those high notes sounded amazing! Thanks for posting this video!
Jon never had the cords to the register that he would sing there was a time when Jon couldn't sing due to the destruction of his vocal chords
With every thing Jon has gone there I'M amazed that he still has the voice that he has!
