why the fuck didn the stuped americans fly them to thailand or was it to far. thailand still uses old american hueys today i see them everyday over north tthailand
@TheBookWorm1718 turn back some hueys before they got anywhere near the ships to find out they were full, land at a friendly base, leave some there, hand some to the S. vietnamese army so they could use it against the NVA.....
@abhiginimav The ARVN at that point in the war was a bad joke, their units were falling apart just as fast as the evacuation flights could arrive. Giving them any US equipment would have just ended up in the hands of the NVA.
Can you tell me which aircraft carrier this was taken place?? my dad was among the crew of the chinhook and huey of the south vietnamese and i want to do more reserch about his journey? he said he remember thos helicopters being droped like it was yesterday and cried.

It was Operation Frequent Wind. The choppers were out of fuel, there were too many on deck and Vietnam was falling. It was a terrible end. I choke up every time I see it.
@MusicLover11325 - As in the opposite of dynamic. Not moving, if you like. An example would be a "static display", not spinning, battery disconnected and kids crawling all over it throwing switches and getting their pictures taken in the cockpit...
Frequent WIND!!! THAT WAS IT. I couldn't remember if it was Operation Rolling Thunder or Op. Frequent Wind. THANKS!! Learning bout the operation in U.S. History was the highlight of my class.
in the beginning, it looks like the pilots are jumping into the ocean and letting the helicopter crash. Seems pretty dangerous. The chopper could crah down on the pilot in the water, or damage the ship. Pushing them off seems a whole lot marter way to do it.
Most of those pushed into the sea were south vietnamese Air force choppers stolen by their pilots and flown out to the carriers. I believe one of them ditched was an Air America 204-B possibly stolen from the base at Tan Son Nhut.AAI were the last ones still flying people out, even after the Marines stopped their flights out from the embassy. (former Air America pilot)"First ones in, last ones out"
If the helicoptor pilots really believed in fighting for their cause in Vietnam, they would have kamikazed those helicopters into Viet Cong positions.
Had you been born then, you could have put your mouth where your money is and done it. But since you cant because the war is long over, I am forced to tell you to shut the fuck up
there were also British Royal Navy ships there, my father was there 1974 and 1975, helicopters come in, land on deck, everybody out then they just shoved them over the side to make room for the next chopper
they had Vietnamese civilians and Vietnamese soldiers, American Civilians and American Soldiers among others coming aboard, they only had room for the people, there were so many choppers flying in From Saigon they didnt have time to refuel the choppers, and they barely had enough fuel anyway to get the choppers back so they just shoved them into the sea
my dad was in the navy- but he was stationed in northern canada during the late 70's early 80's. monitoring russian aircraft. so he didnt see "action" persay, but i guess no one really did in the cold war by normal war standards. very interesting stuff still- but didnt get to toss helicopters into the sea, lol.
i think its part of the definition of american- know nothing bout the rest of the world.. n believe they single handedly won every conflict ever involved in.
we were low on fuel waiting in line to pick up our troops/famlies/children during the evaction .... you do the math

The carrier was the USS Midway, CVN 41. The ship in the background appears to be the USS Rowan DD-782. I was on that ship that day.
