  • we were low on fuel waiting in line to pick up our troops/famlies/children during the evaction .... you do the math

  • why the fuck didn the stuped americans fly them to thailand or was it to far. thailand still uses old american hueys today i see them everyday over north tthailand

  • it would be so easy for that thing to land on you after jumping out of it

  • Should have let the pilots keep one lol they desereved it

  • Should have gave them to me!!!!!

  • The carrier was the USS Midway, CVN 41. The ship in the background appears to be the USS Rowan DD-782. I was on that ship that day.

  • fucking stupid....how can you have a lack of space for helicopters? prior planning prevents piss poor performance.....and a waste of hueys...

  • @abhiginimav And you could've done better in the middle of a war zone, eh?

  • @TheBookWorm1718 turn back some hueys before they got anywhere near the ships to find out they were full, land at a friendly base, leave some there, hand some to the S. vietnamese army so they could use it against the NVA.....

  • @abhiginimav The ARVN at that point in the war was a bad joke, their units were falling apart just as fast as the evacuation flights could arrive. Giving them any US equipment would have just ended up in the hands of the NVA.

  • Most likely the USS Blueridge

  • Can you tell me which aircraft carrier this was taken place?? my dad was among the crew of the chinhook and huey of the south vietnamese and i want to do more reserch about his journey? he said he remember thos helicopters being droped like it was yesterday and cried.

  • @chabra51 - I wish I could help you, but I do not know which aircraft carriers were involved. Good luck

  • Can you tell me which aircraft carrier this was taken place?? my dad was among the crew of the chinhook and huey of the south vietnamese and i want to do more reserch about his journey? he said he remember thos helicopters being droped like it was yesterday and cried.

  • I thought that guy at 0:08 was going to get hit by his own helicopter.

  • yea bro that was a MASSIVE leap of faith from the chopper

  • OMG i watched this in a documentary what a waste of money to make these wonder Hueys

  • The ditching was the especial American art.No one know this art els.

  • if i could get my hands on one of those helis...:(:(

  • A lot of them were South Vietnamese Hueys

  • @GarageBoy The silver one at 15 seconds was an Air America bird which had been ferrying people out there all day. Air America was owned by the CIA.

  • It was Operation Frequent Wind. The choppers were out of fuel, there were too many on deck and Vietnam was falling. It was a terrible end. I choke up every time I see it.

  • I was wondering how many Hueys and Chinooks that were dumped in the ocean back in 1975

  • how come i'm 22 and it's the first time i see these images, mr. television?

  • che dispiacere!!buttare via tutti quegl'elicotteri :(

  • thats a waste, they could of gave 1 to me lol

  • @EvilKorbinDallas OMG lol that whats i was about to say xD give me one

  • seems like they could have tied a chain to another ship and just pulled them off

  • Unless there wasn't room to land in the first place....I remember seeing guys pushing them overboard when they were static.

  • @patmagroin20 static? yeah i saw them too

  • @MusicLover11325 - As in the opposite of dynamic. Not moving, if you like. An example would be a "static display", not spinning, battery disconnected and kids crawling all over it throwing switches and getting their pictures taken in the cockpit...

  • @patmagroin20 What ship were you on during operation frequent wind?

  • @ih8suvz - I was not on a ship during that particular operation

  • @jeromebill7718 no they had to keep the fight deck clear for landing

  • Whoa! That guy at 0:20 took one heck of a leap! Hope he had a cup or grabbed his balls, because landing unguarded from that would hurt!

  • I believe this happened after Opporation Rolling Thunder so sumthing

  • This was during Operation Frequent Wind, the evacuation of Saigon. There's a short article on it in Wikipedia

  • Frequent WIND!!! THAT WAS IT. I couldn't remember if it was Operation Rolling Thunder or Op. Frequent Wind. THANKS!! Learning bout the operation in U.S. History was the highlight of my class.

  • i would have bought one!!!!!!!!

  • Very very Sad...

  • in the beginning, it looks like the pilots are jumping into the ocean and letting the helicopter crash. Seems pretty dangerous. The chopper could crah down on the pilot in the water, or damage the ship. Pushing them off seems a whole lot marter way to do it.

  • Most of those pushed into the sea were south vietnamese Air force choppers stolen by their pilots and flown out to the carriers. I believe one of them ditched was an Air America 204-B possibly stolen from the base at Tan Son Nhut.AAI were the last ones still flying people out, even after the Marines stopped their flights out from the embassy. (former Air America pilot)"First ones in, last ones out"

  • Sad very sad indeed. Hard to believe they could not have been shipped out of there before the fall of Saigon.

  • they did this becuase they had to make more space for the vietnamese people to go to united states thats why they did it for more space

  • this makes me cry

  • werid how they would allow this, and the way they did it.

  • poor planning by the dod is more like it

  • what a waste tax payers money way back when

  • I guess it was either waste money or waste lives........

  • lol ur life is worth more than a helicopter

  • If the helicoptor pilots really believed in fighting for their cause in Vietnam, they would have kamikazed those helicopters into Viet Cong positions.

  • lol how about you do it

  • they escaped befor VC went to Saigon

  • Had you been born then, you could have put your mouth where your money is and done it. But since you cant because the war is long over, I am forced to tell you to shut the fuck up

  • oh so true

  • 10 green point for you comment !

  • I want to cry.

  • same thing happened in ww2 with our aircraft in the pacific, the u.s. literally pushed them overboard. what a waste no matter what war or decade.

  • was this after the war then?

  • Yeah, when the US Army was on the way home. No room for helicopters on the boats....

  • there were also British Royal Navy ships there, my father was there 1974 and 1975, helicopters come in, land on deck, everybody out then they just shoved them over the side to make room for the next chopper

  • LoL!! realy?! great use of tax dollars right there haha

  • yes, really =)

well, they didn't have a choice

they had Vietnamese civilians and Vietnamese soldiers, American Civilians and American Soldiers among others coming aboard, they only had room for the people, there were so many choppers flying in From Saigon they didnt have time to refuel the choppers, and they barely had enough fuel anyway to get the choppers back so they just shoved them into the sea

  • gotta do wut u gotta do i guess..

bet ur dads got some amazing storys-

  • he certainly has

all those who think Vietnam was purely an "American" war are wrong, there were many different countries involved, and they all deserve recognition

  • my dad was in the navy- but he was stationed in northern canada during the late 70's early 80's. monitoring russian aircraft. so he didnt see "action" persay, but i guess no one really did in the cold war by normal war standards. very interesting stuff still- but didnt get to toss helicopters into the sea, lol.

i think its part of the definition of american- know nothing bout the rest of the world.. n believe they single handedly won every conflict ever involved in.

  • many countries = Yank's lackies

  • This is really sad. Such great machines forced to ditch...

  • yeah hueys are great machines, still they did build thousands

  • I was there and witnessed some of this. I also got to work in a refugee camp in Guam for several months.

  • liar

  • Your response tells me everything about you.

  • dude your not old enough to have been in v'nam,i had my ass in the grass, i got the 1000 yard stare!! i killed gooks!!

  • Oh, so why did you make your age 28 on your channel?! You're the liar.
