  • Loving this. It's sweet to see a footwork-heavy weapon style in play. For those who don't know- constant moving and positioning like this is something you might recognize better if we call it "zoning" and relate it to fighting games like the Marvel vs Capcoms, tacky as it is. It's controlling the arena. Good positioning and movement is key in any fight, as is anything you can do to disrupt an opponent in doing the same, and footwork is a key aspect of this.

  • @AntiNubDevice Thank you for the kind words and recognizing the footwork here. Many don't see it in its scientific manner. You have a good eye.

  • I'm trained Bahala Na Arnis/Escrima by late GM Giron. Rattan Bastons to simulate the Blade for safety are used but it can still break bones or even kill. The match was fine: It's good training! It's not a Death Match. The Kalistas did well--notice their footwork/quick exchanges--like any real fight; and they reengaged until End. Real fights are quick and end bloody. In PMA, armed or open hand, it doesn't matter, the same techniques are used, adjusted by every fight's variables (to many to list).

  • Anyone claiming to be bored watching this, has probably not done this. People who have felt the wrath of the rattan respect it and understand why you shouldn't wade in trading shots. The newbs in my gym that only use soft sticks tend to trade shots. Those of us that have fought with real rattan look for clean entries and kill shots. Both this, and the video with Sgt. Prado are very educational. I am sorry for anyone that can't see that.

  • @Jonobos Its good to see someone with a good eye for respect for the weapon. You are right, most just hit each other or take hits to hit back or body tackly. I always say, try all that with a pinute. A real blade gains respect quickly. Rattan does not gain respect because it is a practice weapon, not a damaging weapon.

  • @RonOrGina I have a hand that was shattered with rattan at a Dog Brothers Gathering and I can promise you it IS a damaging weapon. Any Diameter over 3/4 of an inch easily breaks hands and over 1" will crack collar bones, knee caps, facial bones. Impact is still dangerous! That said, great videos and great Traditional weapons site! keep up the great work!!

  • @xekxkox Thank you for the kind words. Rattan is a practice weapon but a good strong hit does do damage. With my already broken down body I am careful. I think thats why my footwork is working so hard here. He hits like a baseball bat so I had to be careful.

  • @Jonobos Its good to see someone with a trained eye watching these videos. Its hard to see the subtle footwork and the subtle defences here due to the stick moving so fast. If you move linear in FMA;s, you get taken out to easily. One must have angulated footwork down or get hurt.

  • @RonOrGina well that's something we have different for i have not been stabbed YET i swear im not bragging :P but in all seriousness it's always better to have the weapon(s) then not, however knowing what to do is always helpful application is just another story

  • @chablehh I was in a different lifestyle at one time so it was inevitable. It was a big time battle with a lot of people. i got stabbed in the back. I have had a lot of similar situations back then. I lead a different lifestyle now of course. My kids are the age I was when I was more into the street thing. They are completely different than I was. I teach them street smarts though MA training and our talks mostly.

  • @RonOrGina what i ment with the kick was him kicking when you raised but either way that makes sense, and yeah learning Kali I was taught to treat the stick as a blade as well, learning to cut through even with dull objects to do more damage and so you don't have to learn 50 different techniques just because something has an edge or not

  • @chablehh Blade fighting is not pretty. I have been stuck in the back before and it hurts for a few days. Blade self defense with and without a weapon is good to know. An empty hand style that bases a knife self defense situation on theory will seldom work iin the real world.

  • @RonOrGina very respectable footwork especially for wearing sandals, however Sgt. Baltazar I think did 1 thing I would have been scrutinized for, i was always taught only turn your back to a corpse, and I'm a little shocked no kicks were made, when you raised your stick preparing to strike I kept expecting a roof block to set up a kick, still good fight, much respect and I hope you don't think of me as another internet warrior..

  • @chablehh Thank you! Taking the risk to kick with Sgt Baltazars hard strikes is difficult due to the fack he hits like a baseball bat. In PTK, we tend to treat the stick as if it was a blade also. The sarge has all my respect though. he is a real killer.

  • you fight like girls....you need more training

  • @peeyay8803 You fight like a keyboard warrior. ;)

  • very smooth, and respect for the flow, even in those jeans. I wouldn't dare wear jeans in a full-contact fight.

  • @RacquetRob It was early in the morning so we didn;t have our shorts on yet. This was in the Philippines and pretty much it is warm all the time. I have this thing about everyone should be able to fight no matter what they are wearing. Scenario training with your everyday clothes is good to do once inna while.

You seem to have an eye for recognizing subtle footwork. ;)

  • @RonOrGina I can compare my footwork with yours, and the footwork I'm aiming for with yours, and the last pair looks much more similar than the first pair. That's all.

And I agree about training in any and all clothes; my point was just that jeans tend to limit movement ... although I've been beaten in knife sparring by a jeans-wearing fighter, while in sweats myself ;)

  • @RacquetRob I tell the women in my class that if they are going to be wearing heals to maybe take an old pair and practice a little bit with them. It would suck about the time you need to use skills most and end up surprised with unfamiar territory. We all tend to dress loosly for the MA school. That can go against us if we do not practice in everyday wear. Here, it was a cold morning so we all dressed warmer. We were all in shorts and t-shirts by the late morning. This was 6 in the morning. .

  • Boring and uneventful...sorry

  • @largomanoheadhunter I hear ya! We don't want to take each others shots with no counter offensive movements and we don't get hit diving in for a take down. Yah, I can see why you are bored. Actually, who cares if you were bored. heheheh, Grand Tuhon Leo Gaje loved the fight, liked the footwork and the counter offensive movements. He was there and gave good compliments on it numerous times. I think his opinion means much more than a bored keyboard warrior. ;)

  • i will fight you both in the philippines and in the US, dont worry, you will know it that it was me when somebody will just challenge you JUEGO TODO-NO HOLDS BARRED..

  • @ESCRIMADOR3 Do I smell a keyboard warrior? Yes, we all smell it...its smells bad because there are way to many of them around.

  • If you watch PTK LAKAN-KALI (live sparring ) you can hear someone say "gamitin nyo footwork nyo" translation: use your footwork, so it seems clear that you were not able to use your footwork- as its also apparent in this video..admit it because in sparring there was panic,so you forgot all the proper moves.

  • @ESCRIMADOR3 I am not in any PTK LAKAN-KALI video. You are obviously mistaken my fights for someone elses. In this video and others was constantly complimented on my footwork by people that mattered in my life. If you are in the Philippines, fight my friend Sgt Baltazar. If you are here in the US, fight me. Or is being a keyboard warrior the only way you fight?

  • @escrimagrappler

    EXACTLY! LOL

  • I have respect to all Kali/Escrima/Arnis practitioners. I had to share what I learned from Orlando Latrago. Search "Latrago Kali" on youtube. I will try to video some more drills.

  • @latragokali I look forward to seeing them. :)

  • I subscribed to you because i have a guess that you'll be my instructor in the near future. I want to be a part of the Special Forces here in the philippines because of the interesting people around me. Usually for more knowledge.

Will you still be around in the years of 2014 - 15? cause right now i'm working hard to become an officer some day. I'm 14 years old and doing basic military push-ups every night by doing 60 repetitions.

  • @mickypure I do hope to be there every year. I love the Philippines. Keep in touch. I would be more than happy to teach you.

  • @RonOrGina Alright, thanks! and i hope to see you in the near future! :D

  • @escrimagrappler is sounds like YOU are the one with self-confidence issues. I respect Kali and if I had a local trainer I would take it. The point I'm making is stick fighting is a thing of the past. How many fights have you seen when a guy has a stick available or even anything even close to that?? I love the knife training of Kali, but for guns I prefer Krav. Israel has been surround by people wanting to kill them since it was established. The training is battle proven.

  • This wasn't the most action packed training session nor is there much to learn from this demo. I'll stick to krav.

  • @tgcrushes15 Whatever style floats yer boat. I choose this one because I like the fighting in it. I have seen Krav Maga, I have seen many styles over the years. I choose the ones I teach for a good reason.

  • @dockilat Fight Sgt Baltazar or Sgt Prado and then lets see you call it childs play. They are friends of mine and we respect each other. Me and my friends in the Philippines are obviously different in kill mode. At least we are fighting and not on the internet talking stupid. ;)

  • @RonOrGina killmode or no kill mode, train like you fight, fight like you trained...what i am saying is your reaction to each others strike is wrong-shuffling back and forth? where is the triangle footwork now? reaction- is the key..

  • @dockilat I guess if you do not see it you are not well trained. Or you can see if your way is better going to him or me due to the fact youdo the keyboard warrior crap rather than fighting.

  • @RonOrGina The Kali Ilustrisimo system is the BEST. u think im a keyboard warrior, i just comment to make the differences so that others new to FMA may see..crap. ok u win, shuffle style! the end.LOL

  • kulang nalang lagyan ng kanta..sayaw na

  • so hes like an eskrima celebrity

  • hmmmm...maganda sa drill sa di pa nga live stick takot na takot na

  • Love it! 5/5 and favorited!

  • crap

  • heheheh

  • Magandang Gabi,

  • Finally You Tube gave me a box. I will check out your videos and your web site. It seems were are around the same age. I may need a contact for Laticos. I have someone looking into it for me, but who knows.

  • And a picture with your group and mine next to Chieftain Lapu Lapu.

  • I have a pic like that if you look on psdtc(dot)com My Kuntao Dumpag videos are in the line up of videos here or just click on the "RonorGina" above to see more. I have about 50 other videos there. Some of my students, my son and many on FMA's.

  • If I go to the Philippines, I need to have halo halo, pansit, chick adobo, diniguwan and lumpya. I am sure the spelling is off but still the same that is what I would want to eat. Oh and kari kari. Then we can train, fight and enjoy.

  • Yes, there is nothing like getting the taste of the culture there.

  • My mistake...Pananandata. A bit tired.

  • I know your style is Pekiti Tirsia. That was my first style I trained in and then I trained in Arnis Lanada and then Panananandata. All good in my book.

  • Its unusual to see someone leave PTK to go to another style. I have seen people blend but never leave it. Who did you learn PTK from? My teacher is Grand Tuhon Leo Gaje for about 8 or 9 years to date. I have been in the Inosanto system before that and modern Arnis way before that. The FMA I have been with since the mid 70's is Kuntao.

  • If we were to use a dense weapon with some weight to it then there will be more damage such as broken bones etc.... The style is Largo Mano and yes we do stay on the outside. That is the style of fighting I teach.

  • While we do long range as well, my style, Pekiti Tirsia, is a close range fighting methodology with a lot of subtle footwork. As you can see in this video and the other one with Sgt Baltazar..

  • No I do not hide behind a keyboards as others do. As a matter of fact we can still be friends and fight anyway. The reason for the match is to further the art and promote it instead of displaying a poor attitude which can mis-interpreted.

  • Yes, writings are easily misinterpreted. I have no time to go to NJ but if you are ever in the area, we can have some fun and have a water (or whatever) afterwards. ;)

  • Part 4

Training with armor lends to making mistakes when fear is no longer an element. Unarmored forces you to fight with all your wits and focus. One mistake may be your last. So take this as you like, my first interest was to say hello and to spread the FMA instead of bashing someone I don't even know.

  • This bullshit with keyboard warriors. I never insulted anyone. Your videos show you staying out of range and not hitting hard. Its not an insult, fact the facts. You are the one who gave me part 1,2,3,4 so if you want to fight, you come to me. I am willing with my sticks the way you want it. Or we can be friends. Its up to you. I simply implied that we are hitting hard here and with no gear, some one may die. Thats all! I am friends with everyone who has a common interest.

  • Part 3

Perhaps you can visit us in NJ and we can show you how "haphazordly we fight. Remember, you're Filipino born, I am not. However, My heart and soul belongs to the Filipino Arts. So why would you choose to answer defensively, when my father was a Marine and at no time would I think a Marine is weak.

  • Part 2

My students have been fighting since 1994. Hitting tires, trees, bags etc I think FMA is the most lethal weapons form in the world. So instead of me saying hello and gaining a friend, you choose to be insulting. Fighting? Bahalana. That has never been a problem. Then you choose to say you break bones and skin. Again is this a scare tactic...well it didn't work.

  • Part 1

I made a comment reference armored vs unarmored. Not to be insulting but to hopefully find traditional FMA who train unarmored as well as armored. Instead of you taking it as a compliment to the FMA when it runs in my veins and in my soul, you choose to be insulting. Hitting what tires?

  • I am saying these Recon Marines i am fighting hit the tires an hour a day. You fight with no head gear with them and you get hit you will die. I also hit the tires quite often and believeme, my hits have split open arms and smashed hands through hockey gloves. We do full contact with lighter sticks at my school with no gear at all to give respect to the weapon. I am not being insulting but I am no beginner at this either.

  • By the way, I got hit in the little finger in this fight. With no glove that finger would have been dog meat. I felt it through the glove for 3 weeks. I took a couple of other hits but I was moving well so it was not that bad. Luckily it was an impact weapon and not a blade. Then again, I did a lot of hitting here and made and created some pain also.

  • why don't you take the equipment off and fight unarmored?

  • I saw your videos. You are not fighting anyone of any skills. You fight these guys who are hitting the tires and hour a day. I see you stay very long range in your fights really not making contact. I am willing to fight unarmoured but I do not fight like I see in your videos swinging the sticks haphazordly with light sticks. We break bone as well as skin. The only way to suvive a head shot when fighting Filipino Marines is to wear a helmet. Like I said, i saw your videos. It is not the same!

  • who's the one wearing a shirt with a YAWYAN symbol?

  • I am not sure if Sgt Baltazar did YawYan, I know he is also interested in those style but he is a PTK guy. As for me, thats not a Yaw Yan design unless someone stoled my symble.

  • is this a MARTIAL ART?

i think its called PALO TAKBO

    sorry guys...

ayoko may masagasahan pero kaya nga may COMMENT para sabihin ang gus2 mong sabihin dba?

    PEACE!!!

  • It is a hit and run or at least a hit or two and run. We are both respecting each others power. Sgt Baltazar hits like a bomb landing. He hits the tires every day. I like to hit without being hit. Thats why we use minimal gear here. In Pekiti Tirsia, we treat the stick as if it is the blade and treat the blade with much respect. I hate to see people who just bash each other during a spar session. That will not occur with no gear on. Gear does not allow respect for what rattan represents.

  • good clip. nice and relaxed sparring session...

  • Thank you for noticing the intricate things going on here. I see you have a good eye for the technical movements.

  • Thanks for the reply, I wasn't criticizing just checking on fighting theory. I've been in enough dances to know it's always best to have more than one way to approach a dance partner. Keep up the good work guys and once again thanks.

  • Question?-- Myself originating from a boxing background, when fighting in a right hand leed I move to the right side. Is there a specific reason why these practionairs are moving to the left?

  • its is a personal choice which way to move. The reason you move to the left or right is that in a knife fight if you back the enemy can easy run fast forward then you can run backwards that is why when you move around it is always in small circles, the reason is to be safe and not sorry. knives are more dangerous then guns in close quarter"knives never jam , never have to reload" can be carried or taped anywhere.

  • Nice fight thanku for sharing.

  • Thank you. There should be more on here when i get the chance to put them together ad upload them.

  • good stuff, bit slow thou. check out

    kickfit's mike schmidt vs NwZ

    call2arms

    for more stick fighting madness!!!

  • I just checked that fight out. It was sloppyas shit. This fight with the marine is far more technical. You cant possibly think the schmidt vs NwZ looks better. Or are you promoting your self? ;)

  • Not all stick fighrters are technical. And not all use counter offensive tactics so they can hit without bing hit. Either way, if a person is getting in there and fighting, they are warriors never the less!

  • this video is way different then kickfit's mike schmidt vs NwZ call2arms. this is more wide open so there no need to beet the crap out of each other and your is in a ring so don't have much room to move your feet so your limited. both are interesting videos. ronorgina your videos are badass thanx for sharing.

  • well yeah the video you recomended.. it's just a couple of guys bashing each other...i saw hardly any technique at all

that's the problem, not enough emphasis on technique and too much on just muscle

if that sgt. baltazar fought there he'd murder them. real fighters are balanced, anyone who can think can tell

  • i think they a great fighter and also they are the one knows of what they do of their techniques so awesome!!

  • I thought the Filipino arts had footwork based on triangles. Looks like all these guys are doing here is shuffling in and out in dominant-hand lead. Doesn't pikiti-tirsa man "to cut into smmall pieces, up close"? Why is no one getting up close?

  • I don't know what you see but I see some pretty technical footwork here from both of them. The big guy who I assume is american does some pretty good counter attacking. Especially around 518. He does not attack much but his foot work and his counter attacks are right there. The Filipino seems to angle out after his attacks. He is more aggressive and also very technical. Maybe you should look at it again. I like all this guys videos. They are interesting to say the least.

  • Thank you! Sgt Baltaar is a fast fighter. He hits the tires 5000 times a day without exagerating. His hits can break an arm even just using rattan. So I fought here with the utmost respect for his hard hitting capabilities.

  • The overhead stance you use confuses me; could you explain? I would think it would be very limiting -- either downward strike or diagonal cut to the neck, but few other options yet I'd think it's a defensive liability. It seemed to frustrate him immensely, though. Maybe it's because of the power those hits generate, or your reach advantage. He went for a hanging roof for a while early, but abandoned it. Maybe it backfire on him and I didn't notice. Anyway, respect.

  • I usually like to move my weapon around to monitor and be in position to defend before my opponent can hit me. I use that high position as a bomb dropper and to break up any posible pattern of movement. It is a deceptive position because no one can get to the weapon due to the position of it being over my head. And as soon as they move in, whomp. It works rather well for me actually. Try it out and let me know if it works for you. Not every move is for everyone.

  • I think the people who heckle have NO idea what is happening in the video. If they dont understand the 'blade' aspect of the fight, they will think these two guys are either slow or not skilled. It's better they watch a WEKAF tournament with 10000 hits each. For those who understand what is happening in this video, we know the skill employed.

  • was this mostly a handhunting/head hunting spar?

  • We are trained to aim for the vulnerable points so we protect the vulnerable points. Any joint can be a mark. Ribs are hit here and there if they are left open.

  • ok, i was going on the targets that were hit.

  • Where does this take place? I'd like to go there and do some sparring like that, minus the hockey gloves. Do I have to be PT member?

I'm in Manila every few months.

Q: Why the preference for the fencing mask? I've used it only one time, prefer the WEKAF headgear. Any advantages/disadvantages?

  • This was at the Special Action Force Commando training camp. We use a fancing mask for comfort because it is light. The WEKAF helmets cn take a beating and last longer than fencing helmets but I like them a little more for comfort. I noticed a lot of people feel the same way.

  • Great, where is that camp? Manila? Any contact info for the training? If so, please message me privately if you wish. Or share it here. I'm sure you'll have quite a few people who wish to go and join this kind of thing.

  • This was not an event. This just so happen to be where we were training in FMA's at the time. You go to the Philippines and train with any group out htere and they will fight. Its a friendly fight and we all shake hands and talk about it later. Every fight makes us all better and then we lick our wounds. ;)

  • Indeed, I go there several times a year, but haven't trained with PT before, I'm interested in their "test of skill" event, if you have any info on that, share it with all of us. I plan to go again in August or September.

    thanks!

  • These dumb hecklers are jealous Flips and their pride is wounded at the fact that some "redneck" is showing their homeland soldiers how to utilize their own native combat art.

I'm Filipino also, but I'd rather go train in FMA with someone whose teaching skill is worth a damn whether or not he/she's a Flip. I may go over the edge with my racial slurs but I'm not prejudiced.

  • ah ain't no redneck...Ahm a city feller! ;)

  • Hahaha I know. But do they?

  • Nice fight.

I like how they respected the weapons, as if they were real blades and didn't pretend hits didn't count.

  • We always achknowledge all hits. This is a training method used to prepare an individual for bladed weapons fighting. Sgt Baltazar hits like a sledge hammer, I am obviously respecting his hit by not rushing in to get a "point." I am more of a counter fighter. Which as you can see worked well for me! ;)

  • ohh i see well i just started learning and i dont attack first my method is to block the diarm and end it

  • Then come disarm me or Sgt Baltazar. And end it! heheheh Like I said, keyboard warrior asshole!

  • hahahahaha thats funny i probably couldnt but i would try to though lol

  • how new to escrima are you?

  • wow they barely get into the fight they must be begginners

  • Another keyboard warrior asshole. Go tot he Philippines and fight him or come to me and fight me to see if we are beginners. But you won't because you are a keyboard warrior!

  • because all fights are textbook right? lol

  • There is a test book way to fight?

  • If the attacker attacks like "This" then you respond like "This"...

or when you see something that looked so good it had to be planned...

    textbook.

  • lol yea they are lol

  • this is eskrima by the looks of it and i hate how commercial it has gone.

  • Commercial??

  • Ron's my buddy. Whoever these lamefucks are that try to heckle him need to make an appearance on on video with him or me for that matter. Then we can see if their "walk" can match up the tough-talk. They'll probably just run away anyway hahaha.

  • do some research, ron has over 30 years experience and actually trains the philipino military on occasion

  • So? he still sucks. You can do something for years and still suck. Which makes me wonder why the Filipino troops let stupid fucks like him teach them how to fight. In the first place, why do they need rednecks like this to teach them how to fight? Those guys kill people with their blades all the time. They don't need crap like this. I'm 100% sure if it was with live blades, redneck be dead really quick

  • this is lame as fuck. baltazar should've fucked this guy up. don't you know...don't hurt the Amerikkkan. he gave you money to film this shit for youtube. what a fucking prick. hey kosakowski...go into the jungle with him one day to fight the Moslems. see if you come home with your balls not tacked to a tree with snails sucking on it.

i wonder if baltazar knew that you would do this to him on youtube you fucking jerk.

  • i'm a PTK'er and it seemed like the Sgt. was playing safe once he saw you weren't falling for stuff. didn't see anything decisive, but i'd say you controlled the fight. hockey gloves are a real trade-off, they protect but take away a prime target.
