  • Soo privileged to know this girlie! LOVE her.

  • gah. her mezzo range pwnz her upper range

  • OH SHIT, I almost cried when she hit that note!! AMAZING!

  • the best reprise Ive heard from her! is this audio from Broadway or Denver?

  • Broadway

  • love her reprise

  • shes mixing? what do u mean? you think idina could hit that kinda note? a c6 i mean? btw how bad is belting for ur voice? can it really damage it. im doing dancing through life from wicked for auditions and its such a challenge for me to sing i gotta belt it. but i never took voice only where i take theatre at. how bad is belting? i feel like without voice lessons or belting correctly ill never be able to be on broadway which is my dream:(

  • Mixing is a term that refers to singing that employs techniques of both the belt and the head voices together to create a sound that is lighter and make flexible than a belt, but stronger and more grounded than a head voice. Take voice lessons from a teacher who has experience with both classical and belt technique if you want to pursue performing.

Belting, when done properly, doesn't do any vocal damage...most people just don't do it properly, cuz it's hard.

  • she doesn't always always nail that note, but right there it was perfection!

as was it when i saw her! she's just wonderful

  • i Love Sierra Boggess she is so stunning i want to see her in this so badly! Definitely like this better than the movie but the movie is awesome too!

  • Sierra left the show on May 31st. It's rumored (but not confirmed by anyone) that she will be starring as Christine in Andrew Llyodd Webber's Phantom sequel when it premieres in November.

  • That was epic. She's awesome.

  • I prefer this ending because it's much more dramatic. And the other version it's belting the same note, the way it goes high is easy (for me) but i think it sounds better anyway. i like both versions though. I love the little mermaid.

  • they changed the last note from a full belt to a head voice belt because when Jodi Benson recorded it for the movie, it was easier to do a full belt becasue she was only standing in a recording booth..but for Sierra..she has to run around on stage and then do that powerful song, so it would be almost impossible becuase by the time that last note comes..she pretty winded...

  • And in the movie, Jodi Benson didn't do it up the octave...

  • She could have handled it...the music directors just wanted a big, high, loud ending to her "i want song". It's broadway...everything is high belting.

  • Man, she's such an amazing singer. She really knows her stuff.

  • properly belting it should in fact sound operatic, its just nobody has the talent to do that, so you dont hear it like that. ever. wow.

  • quoting idareyou2move24: "its just nobody has the talent to do that, so you dont hear it like that. ever."

It's not that nobody has the talent to do that...it's b/c there's is NO SUCH THING AS OPERATIC BELTING!

i'm sorry but i still disagree with you. i'm assuming that you know something about music, but I study BOTH opera and musical theater and out of all of the teachers i worked with, no teacher has ever said such a thing about belting. i've done A LOT of research on belting to know that.

  • There is actually such a thing as operatic belting, it's just frowned upon. See late Theresa Berganza concert videos, she belts most of her songs as she gets older.

  • unless operatic belting is considered singing in chest voice with an operatic vibrato then i don't see how it can exsist b/c many ppl (including myself) can do that. the person was saying that you rarely see it.

p.s. Baltsa is one of my favorite opera singers. :)

  • "unless operatic belting is considered singing in chest voice with an operatic vibrato" righto. Well, basically, there're mor to it than that but I really don't know enough about it to go into great detail about it. And yes, Baltsa rocks, but like Sierra, whose video we have just overtaken :-p

  • yay!!!! i thought that he/she was saying that Sierra was doing that but she's mixing at the end.

  • Not Theresa Berganza, Agnes Baltsa rather. Sorry, total brain fart there...

  • "There is actually such a thing as operatic belting, it's just frowned upon" the reson you don't hear opera belting espillay in soprono voices is because when you belt it creats tention in the back of the thoght and tounge and if you do it lots it means you can't hit the high floating notes...my techer who is a operatic sporaono had to have phseyo on her thought because of tension from belting from where she had been teching mt (sorry for spelling mistakes)

  • renethel, i think i might have worded it wrong- A singer's goal is to eliminate any form of imperfections or restrictions. the utopian voice can sing any note (within their range) at any dynamic. my voice teacher was a classical performer (voted best carlotta in phantom by andrew lloyd webber himself) and the power and emotion that she exudes constitutes the volume of belting.

i watched your videos, btw, very very impressive.

i'd like to talk to you about this more- message me

  • I was thrown off b/c I thought that you were implying that Sierra Boggess belts operatically.

At any dynamic? Sure, but I doubt that any soprano can belt an E6. lol! I know that Patti LaBelle (sp?) can belt a C6 but she's a legend.

Wow, your teacher sounds really amazing.

Thanks for the compliment. A lot of my singing videos are outdated, though.

My new voice teacher is working on belting with me now.

  • It's not actual belting. Nobody can belt a C6. What it is, is just the singer is using her voice in a very forward way. She's putting it as far in front of her as possible. Its a very difficult technique to learn but Patti LaBelle HAS learned it. Look at Regine Velasquez too. She does it amazingly.

  • Mixing?

  • Yes! Exactly.

  • this note is a mix of belting and head voice, thats why it sounds so beautifully... thats true anybody can hit that note only with chest voice, either with belt... but this note wouldnt sound so powerfull and amazing without it...

  • Omg, really? Who is your voice teacher?

  • Patricia Hurd, she was on the 2nd national tour.

  • I love her voice. But as people have been talking about, she's not belting at the very end, she definitely mixes so as to not wreck her voice... and it sounds great!

  • i like this mix... a belt wouldn't fit i think.you have to mention that the beauty of arielle's voice is a big issue in the movie and musical.a belting end would take away the clearness and the decay of her voice.

  • I also appreciate the fact that she mixes, it makes her voice special. It also helps her voice stay in good condition while doing 8 shows a week.

  • i also like the fact that she mixes haha. idk why but i really like women who can sing classically/operatically and belt (like sierra and kristin chenoweth) haha

  • I agree. although i have only heard kristin heavy mix. i havent heard full on chest from her. if you could show me a vid that would be awesome.

  • Then I shouldn't purchase the cast recording? I need to see this show so bad, along with Phantom!

  • the cast recording is very bad! There is no belt in her voice but if you hear her live.. she is amazing!

  • And by hitting it I meant in chest voice/belting to clarify.

  • This is so good! But in my opinion I think she's scared to belt it because I know she can hit it, but it would sound like opera because she used to play christine. So I think she's done amazing enough training her voice out of opera which takes a lot to do. Hats of to Sierra.

  • She can belt up to a F and the last note she hits is an Eb, but how does belting it sound operatic? That confused me. If she belted it in chest voice it would NOT sound anything close to opera.

  • yeah idareyou2move24 does not make any sense i have never heard that before.

  • I don't actually think she belts it -- it's either mixed belt or very clear, strong head voice. She sings in chest voice, from what I hear, up until "someday I'll be".

  • It's called a mix. Most musical theater students learn it because when you are in a show you can't belt every time or else your voice will be going in no time. Its exactly what you think it is which is a mix of head voice and chest voice. Its actually rather difficult if you've been just belting for years. I speak from experience. lol.

  • Can you explain to me how to mix please LOL? My voice teacher is classically trained and she doesn't know how to teach it.

  • well, your voice needs to be more forward, resonating from the bridge of your nose, but not nasally. a good way to figure out if you are mixing is my putting your fingers on the bridge of your nose. if it vibrates then you are mixing. be sure not to push from your throat that could really hurt your voice. a good exercise is saw the words "knee-ah" as you warm up with scales. it makes your voice more forward.

    I hope I helped a little.

  • oh singing in the facial mask. i've been doing that...i guess that i'm doing a bad job LOL. But whenever I do that it doesn't give off the allusion of belting. ugh.

    thank you!

  • haha. I'm not that good at the facial mask either! keep trying!

    your welcome!

  • so amazing! I would give anything to see this live. and you know, everything else on broadway

  • Shes amazing. I love her. end of story.

  • Did they give Ariel a different key at the end? Because, call me naive, the ending sounds a bit higher than it does in the film. Sierra is such a talented young girl.

  • the end is actually in a lower key. the original reprise in the move was in F BUT she didn't jump the octave. they moved it down a full step to i believe E flat so that Sierra can jump the octave.

  • What a VOICE!!! Sierra is just AMAZZING! I cannot wait to see it soon!!!

  • :OOOO! omg. she has a great voice. cant wait. already have tixs!

  • oh I need the cast album asap

  • That was simply amazing! I love Sierra's voice. And this reprise has always held a special place in my heart.

  • holy crap

  • sierra's voice is absolutely incredible; i hope she's still there when i see this in may!

  • I'm so certain that she'll renew her contract to play Ariel for like another 6 months after her original contract ends.

  • ok they changed the rhythm a bit from some of the other recording of this;; she sounds amazing;;
