Twilight would've been better if Edward killed Bella in that biology class and the story ended there. Or if Tyler's van actually hit Bella and Edward starting drinking her blood there and then. My favourite alternate ending however, is in New Moon; Bella actually dies by falling off of a cliff and Edward dies in Italy. I hope that doesn't make me...insane...
Something that I always wondered was how could he have thought he would get away with killing her, and all of the biology class? Someone would noticed they all died, and even if there was no one to 'witness' it, I think someone would notice that he was the only one not dead, and that he run away. I don't get the impression that they change they're names when they move, so they would be on the run no matter where they went...
if my girl asked me to teach her to fight (which i'm kinda good at it) i would, since you never know what may happen and I'm not the strongest man in the world neither a "PERFECT" man like edward, he just wants to be the knight protecting the weak princess, what an idiot, bet he cares more about her than he does about the true reason why she wants to learn which is protecting their daughter that the fucker didn't want in the first place, fangirls please stop loving this asshole!!
This is something Twihards and WannaBellas never seem to grasp. Even under Edwards guise of true love, he is being abusive or selfish. When he says that he does not want to teach her because he does not like thinking of all the ways to kill her, it is not out of love but selfishness. He does not care about what she wants, because it goes against what HE wants to do. He sees that Bella is hurt by this, but why would that matter when it hurts HIM?
How do people think this is romantic? Edward is a sick, twisted individual. I actually feel a little sorry for Bella, even though she is letting herself be abused.
Meyer is from Utah, most definitely Mormon and from what I've seen and heard living in the same place....abuse is often a common factor. Not physical more emotional. I think no hard core Mormon guy want's a girl thinking that she can do anything she wants. This includes working. As far as I know, there are more stay at home moms in this religion then what little I've seen in the others.
Has anyone considered that perhaps Meyer herself is an abused wife somehow trying to justify her husband's behavior by writing it as normal? Just a thought.
I think that would be the only way I might forgive her writings because I would actually feel sorry for her then...otherwise, she's just crazy or something for her ideas of "romance"
I get an odd feeling Meyer did not mean to do this. Maybe she just feels these morals are correct or normal. Which is scary enough.
But then, I have no sympathy for her. She's come off, to me personally, as a horrible, selfish, self-involved, unthoughtful, almost unintellegent person.
The more you prove things the more this book terrifies me. All of the messages are just SO wrong. Now I'm no feminist, but I have to strongly detest the idea of Edward doing all of these things. I hate Edward's deciding to end everything she tries to do. His character in some ways bothers me SO much more than Bella in some ways.
How did Stephanie Meyer do this? How did she makes such absolutly revolting characters!?!?!
that's just to plain of a answer why diabolicallefty, he needed to man up and teach her for her sake and the anti Christ of a daughter ^_^ (Unlike that abusive bastard i want my girl to be strong who can defend herself when I'm not around and also so we can support each other when something unexpected happens, of course unless she doesn't want to XD)
That's when you swallow without wanting to, but I hardly think that's something a Meyerpire would do. They're too perfect for that. (Edward in particular.)
Angelus/Darla make a much better abusive vampire couple, at least they knew how to have a good time and weren't so obsessed with one another. If Edward is really Meyer's dream man she's beyond hope.
I know, seriously. It's was clear long ago that Meyer's wet dream is Twilight. I guess Edward is her perfect man. But remember, Meyer is know for performing rape, so I guess she's just a little nuts.
Well they're evil, and Darla's confirmedly masochistic. They're not presented as role models, so it's much more entertaining and less painful I'd assume. (Only saw 2 eps of Angel, so don't spoil!)
God, he's so infantile. He didn't marry a woman, but a little girl, one who he is trying to keep a little girl. You can't be a woman without the strength to slap a douchebag off of you, let alone your child, it be hell spawn or not.
I think Edward would best be portrayed in the film as an actual douche device, rather than an actor.
In my opinion marriage is just another way he can control their relationship. Assuming she stayed human like he wanted she'd have a harder time leaving him if by some miracle she decided to. However in 20 years he can tell her that the age difference is to weird and be the one who walks away easily.

You know this whole relationship is very victorian. The woman was expected to be beautiful, fragile and innocent(i.e. ignorant).
The men had all the say in the relationship. It's sickening. I'm not even a die-hard feminist and every aspect of this relationship is revolting.

Firstly (and this is just an off-topic quip about Meyer's writing), since when is "hedged" a synonym for "said"? Since when is it a verb at all!
Okay, I'm done with that.
I love the voices you use in this reading. You just got bored, or what?
T_T ... don't mention that 'courtroom drama' to me. I was sooo pissed, after the three chapters they spent building up to an epic battle... UGH.

You hear that? That's Eowyn getting her sword to slice Mr. Douchepire into bits.

If he thinks a woman being a warrior is out of the question, I can't imagine how he felt about the Xena craze.

That people aren't stoning a scantily-clad, tough, lesbian warrior prncess.
I can imagine Smeyer having a heart attack hearing those words uttered to her.

Meyer gave a shitty version of the Cold War for the "climax" of her book. That's what I thought of it.

LOL, that is pretty accurate.

I understand why he wouldn't want to fight her. He 'loves' her. But he is still abusive.
