  • One word : colossal , mega city, full of culture, bussines, sports and entertainment

  • It is such a huge city, ,Mexico City is bigger than New York and Los Angeles.

  • it just goes to show how badass this city is. its a huge target for mother nature and still it has become one of the biggest cities in the world if not the biggest. VIVA MEXICO!! proud to be a paiza, wetback whatever you wanna call me. proud as fuck!!

  • super

  • great..

  • when did this video come out?

  • VIVA MEXICO!

  • 8.1

  • Mexico rocks!

  • I plan to move here one day, any suggestions where I might consider living? I don't want to live where there's a lot of criminal activity. Money's not a problem as long as its far away from danger.

  • @CarbonXL Las Lomas look it up on google

  • YO QUIERO IR A LA CIUDAD DE MEXICO YA!!! =)

  • is no 18,000,000 is 22,500,000 the third largest city on the WORLD

  • this viseo forget to say that the ne lw building implement sismic hidraulic for evitate the building broke or fqll down is the TORRE MAYOR

  • Im British and Mexico City seems like a great place; one of the worlds great cultural hubs.

All those people who are saying its a 'shithole' etc should be more open minded. Yes, it has some serious problems; pollution, crime, the risk from natural disasters but what major city in the world doesn't have challenges?

When there are 18 million people in one place of course there will be problems; but there is also great museums, great cuisine, a diverse society...

  • Mexico is the best country

  • why are you telling the amount of money we used to make years ago. youtube/0sYGJ9F9xLY

  • @jose68967 What is it now then? But it doesn't really matter anyway because your gdp per capita will be very low.

  • @nabilionknight oooh helll nooo u making fun of my city!!!! did u know that mexico city is the 8th richest city in the world also with the most museums and tourists. right now i live in los angeles CA and let me tell u mexico city is way better. los angeles is bretty good too

  • @jose68967 What is the point saying Mexico city is better when los angeles, when L.A is a shit hole as well. With a population of 21 million you only make 390 billion dollars of gdp per year that is nothing to be proud of.

  • even thogh Mexico D.F has many problems, its a beautiful city full of history and culture many museum

  • @heyimkido Umm the fact you think american cities are the barometer for comparing living standards you clearly have no idea. However there is one thing you can compare. Mexican city cops get a paid a third of what nyc cops do. UNAM, barely ranks in the in the top 150 of any global university rankings. Watching mediocre soccer and visiting cemeteries aren't exactly great sporting or cultural experiences. Also people don't really like get kidnapped after having a taxi ride.

  • @nabilionknight You make me lol. We, the US, rank 9th in University graduates. We, the US, do the most psychotic things to our children. The Brazilian currency is almost matching us and we are obsessed with things made in China. But the politicians make us dream, make us believe we are still the most powerful nation in the world.

  • @heyimkido Mexico city= high gun violence, drug cartels, slum housing, lack of international sporting and cultural events, plus no world class universities. Yes all that doesn't equate to crap. Dumbshit people like you should be put in a cage so we can throw tomatoes at you.

  • @nabilionknight Oh I see, you're from Australian. The proud nation where 95% of the citizens came from criminal European citizens.

  • @ism3c Yes, for crimes that would barely get you to the police station these days. Also only less than 2 percent of our current population is descended from that time. This includes our last prime minister, who incidentally could be on the UN security council in the next couple of years. So it would be best if you not comment again on youtube.

  • @ism3c Well, that statistic is ludicrously wrong. Even if it were right, Australia is stil the greatest society in the world now.

  • @Waltiswicked It's great, plenty of mixed culture, but I wouldn't go that far lol

  • @ism3c Only 37% of Australians (at a census 5 years ago) are actually Australian beyond the second generation. Probably only 5% of those are from a convict background. It was only the poms who sent their criminals to Australia. The US aren't exactly Switzerland either.

  • @nabilionknight Lack of cultural events? Haha kid, it's the center of cultural events. Language, art, architecture, literature, cinema, national holidays, cuisine, sport, history... the list goes on aussie. Give it a rest, go do something productive.

  • @LosParedonesMexico Center of maybe of mexico but not the world. Notice how you didn't put education lol. Taking two secs to correctly inform people, who are totally ignorant i would say is not counter-productive.

  • @nabilionknight I said CULTURE not education. Unless you want me to get into that its a whole different subject kid.

  • @LosParedonesMexico Yeah you can but it still won't help. Mexico city, nothing in terms of livability compared Melbourne, Berlin, Vancouver. It is a literal shit hole lol

  • @LosParedonesMexico And don't forget Mexico City has one of the worst Police system in the world. I got robbed by three police officers in 2007 while I was visiting it. I'm glad they gave me 50$ from my money to make it back to the U.S

  • @AmricanEagl Ha that's some bad luck... sorry dude but you can't really trust police anywhere not even here in the states.

  • Killerchair this was 3 years ago stfu idiot ur laughable cuz ur a total deush bag

  • I think NGC is right! :p

  • Mexico city is the 3rd largest city population wise.

  • @mycheezypoof

    After Tokyo and Mumbai?

Sao Paulo and Shanghai can also make a claim to be in the top 5...

  • gato123452 ok bro.

  • The narrator is wrong. Mexico is FAR from being the biggest city on the planet. That's almost laughable. Tokyo trumps mexico city in population. Geographically, the Greater Mexico City (mexico valley area) is teeny compared to the Los Angeles-Long beach-San Bernardino-Riverside area or Greater Tokyo, or New York's tri state area. Strange, as National Geographic is usually spot on. Disappointing.

  • I love how u people think u know more then NG.

  • @Rafa4real yea but NG kinda made a mistake Mexico city is not the worlds largest city that is Tokyo, Tokyo holds a population of 33,000,000 million that is more than the population of Canada.

  • I used to go visit the city all the time when I was little. I would always come back home upset because city is a really great place to be. Tampa is just boring...

  • another interesting fact is that two babies are born each second in mexico city, truly a wonder.

  • this video was made in 2004, the population in mexico city now is 25 million

  • This video is incorrect in describing the Richter scale. The Richter scale is a base ten logarithmic scale, just like a pH scale and a dozen others. "Each additional point one" does NOT mean "100% more force" as it claims. Rather, a single full numerical increase (from 5.5 to 6.5, for instance) indicates a difference of ten times (6.5 is ten times stronger than 5.5). That's actually pretty shameful for them to get that wrong.

  • no longer 18 million, now in 2011 its around 30 million

  • Don't worry Mexico will turn the United States into one giant Megacity and the brown people will rule over the whites!!!

    LONG LIVE MEXICO!!!!

  • @kingmafi6699 Brown people?

Not all the mexicans are Mestizo or Native. A lot are White.

  • @kingmafi6699

lol- Not everyone in Mexico is "Brown". Usually only the natives, a good portion are white as well, considering they came over from Europe.

  • All is see is 4 idiots fighting on YouTube.. smh

  • I'm a fan of cities in Mexico and the United States, unfortunately many people discriminate mexico by migration, but really we are human like any other and not only are people with hats and poor, there are people in Mexico and throughout the world, poor and millionaires, brown and white people, but I think the U.S. and Mexico are two great nations have their faults as all countries in the world.

  • @SinaloenseGuero you wanna know who are to blame for the drug wars? all the people who at one point in their life tried the powder! or still do! no one foced these imbeciles to consume..they just thought it was easier then learning. if Mexico is a source of cocaine it's only because consumers made a market for it! Hey they had to make money somehow..and the only thing americans are pissed about is that they didnt think of it sooner!

  • @SinaloenseGuero and by americans i mean Pinche Gringos!

  • @nemzz9st awww shucks! then you'll have to settle for the pot we export from Canada.

  • @anthony8151 Not so much thanks to the violence.

  • @rune123jm1 hum do u live in mexico? cuz i live in mexico and violence is not the way u think, u know the US is more violent cuz all of the school shootings, the office shootings, and gagns, drugs, terrorites attacks, u name them, so the violence here is not as bad as in the US, so SHUT THE FUCK UP!!!

  • @HelghastSoldier1

In Juarez, an average of 8 people are murdered EVERY DAY. That's many times more than even the most dangerous US city (Detroit). That is a fact. I do not live in Mexico but I have been to Tamaulipas several times, and recently I have seen that people are living in fear there, and it is not safe. Even the police (especially them) live in constant fear of death. Tell me where it's like that in the United States.

You clearly need to learn a little more English as well

  • @FishscaleRaw my English is fine but I decided to type my damn comment however I wish to write it so don't point at me saying I need to " learn a little more English". Okay on topic: Mexico, so your saying 8 people randomly die EVERY FREAKING DAY in Juarez? well your wrong idiot, I've been to Juarez and I'm not dead, i have a family members up there and they aren't dead, thousands of jobs are made in Juarez, Tijuana, and all the border cities and people live there. The news always broadcast...

  • @FishscaleRaw the bad news but never the good news, thats why you Americans have a bad view of my country, the one I live in, the one I love. Now onto the police, buddy of course they have fear, they could die any day while doing there duty, tell me something, does your marines in the Middle East have fear to die? or are they like super humans? well they fear they can die because they are in a battlefield, but the police here are doing there job to protect their citizens so that is not a point.

  • @HelghastSoldier1 sorry but mexico is more violent than the USA..... But it what is true is that the U.S.A is that it invades other countries killing millions.

  • @HelghastSoldier1

What a shame you have to use such violent language, you let yourself down and engender yet more violent feelings in the person you're talking to - would you speak like that to your grandmother, or young people in your care? try and communicate more respectfully and you'll find that people will treat you with respect in return, even if you disagree with each other

  • @HelghastSoldier1 Northern Mexico is the most dangerous of all Mexico because it's closer to the US and Mexican border.

  • I want to visit Mexico City

  • In Mexico you don't have to pay taxes in most places, but only in cities where you really need to pay taxes. Around Mexico most people pay the bills for small amount of money it depends, and no paying taxes because Mexico city are screwing sh%t up.

  • I am so proud to be Mexicano!

    VIVA MEXICO!!!!!!!

  • @WertzOne

In the United States buildings don't require architecture? Architecture is the art and science of designing and constructing buildings. Also, it is common knowledge that the United States and Japan have buildings that are far superior to mexican buildings (mass tuning dampers, advanced HVAC systems et cetera (I doubt you know what those are)). Please learn facts and stop gloating that Mexico is the best country ever because in reality it can be compared to a third world country.

  • @ChromeCrumpet, United States is not the best country in the world either... And it's not first place in almost anything now-a-days... except for the amount of debt maybe...

  • extraño mi ciudad, algun dia volvere, i'll coming back mexico city i love you

  • Mexico city is wonderful and breathtaking! I want to visit it a.s.a.p!

  • i like mexico its omg to big

  • @wolfmanrick Your dumb the majority of people that come here are from the border cities. Why do you think it's the biggest city in the world? duhh and mexicans aren't the only ones that come here Guatemalans, Cubens, Columbians, Argentineans, and many others all cross the border too. Including terrorists or wait... they just get papers. Nevermind let's just hate on Mexicans......

  • @DanaJackson21 wow wolfman rick is one ignorant fuck aint he

  • @DanaJackson21 dumb ass im mexican american, why do you even comment this if you hate mexicans!

  • manila may be in the 11th spot, . . .but it is much congested than any other city in the world. . .love city life. . . .

  • I need this program on spanish!!!!, I speak medium english

  • OMG, I still shake when I hear the sound of the alarm... When I was in Elementary school they KILLED US on those practices: radio, TV, public buildings with the scary "BAW-WA, BAW-WA" sound. At least for personal experience I can say they actually prepared us in case of emergency.

  • Mumbai is slum city. The filthiest

  • VIVA MEXICO!

  • Mexico City is the largest Single city in the world.

The Japanese merged two of their largest cities to form the Greater Tokyo Metropolitan Area.

Mexico City just grew and assimilated several small towns that existed around it.

  • @Tezcatlepocatl Tokyo is bigger.

  • @Kanoki989

Japan cheated by fusing two very large cities which had grown separately: Tokyo and Yokohama, and other considerably big cities.

Mexico City grew by itself as a single city, without absorbing other large cities. Mexico City by itself is bigger than Tokyo by itself.

If Mexico fused two or more of its large cities, like Japan did, they would be bigger than Tokyo.

But that won't happen because Mexico is big and has a lot of area to build, unlike Japan.

BTW, my comment was 1 yr old.

  • @Tezcatlepocatl It doesn't matter how many cities it used to be, all that matters is that it is a single city now.

There are no cities near the capital that could be combined to even equal Japan. Tokyo is one city.

Delhi, Sao Paulo, and Mumbai are bigger than Mexico city anyway >.>

Yes, I know. But saying a city cheated is kind of dumb...

  • @Kanoki989

"All that matters is that it is a single city now"

I disagree. The way something came to be is very important. For example, Japan would probably have been split into two different parts, like Korea, if the 2 atom bombs hadn't been used. Another example is that Israel wouldn't exist if the Holocaust had not happened.

Yeah, maybe saying a city cheated is stupid. But Mexico City is in a young country and it grew slowly & naturally over a long time. Other cities just "jumped" in size.

  • @Tezcatlepocatl If Tokyo is a single city now, why does it matter if they were separate cities 68 years ago (1943) . They were so close to each other, that when they grew to having such large population they developed into one single city. So does that mean the United States isn't a single country? Alaska in 1947, Hawaii 1959. Good luck telling them they don't exist...

Actually Israel was created after WW1 not WW2... Japan would have surrendered to the Americans over the Soviet.

  • @Kanoki989

What? There was a UK-backed Zionist presence in Palestine after WW1, but the state of Israel was created in 1948 thanks to strong international support to make up for the Holocaust.

I really don't think the Soviets would have cared who Japan wanted to surrender to. They definitely didn't care in Germany. They had hundreds of thousands of troops stationed in Sakhalin, ready to cross and pour into Hokkaido. The US just had air bases in Okinawa.

Japan would have split in two for sure.

  • @Kanoki989 That's baloney! Tokyo is larger that Mexico City, I grant you that. But Delhi, Sao Paulo and on top of that, Mumbai???? your bias is obvious! check the maps, zoom in and use the same measure to compare them, you will see

  • @Kanoki989 Yep :) Mexico was the larger city a few years ago...now is like the fourth :D
