Reminds me that this was exactl what Gabe watson (accused of killing his wife off the australian coast) was witness doiing, but was accused of murdering his wife. He too grabbed his panicking wife from the back, but lacked sufficient experitse to bring her to the surface. Ater watching this video, I understand why all courts through the case out.
This is not what I was taught in rescue class. First of all I would have deployed my SMB. If they were unable/unwilling to grab that for floatation, you are taught to dive and surface BEHIND the diver. Approaching a diver thats panicing, is a good way to get your reg ripped out, mask torn off or possibly even knocked unconcious. Creating TWO victims instead of one. No 1 rule of rescue is DON'T become a victim yourself.
@miketrance01 As stated in the title and description. This is not an example of how to do a perfect, text book, flawless rescue in a perfect world. This is a first time attempt by a new student, just for illustration and fun. Chillax!
Nice video, always good to have some of them because everybody can learn of them.
What is a diver in panic
1) he want OUT OF THE WATER! No matter how! For a sample: if there is swimming a duck, he wil grab a duck! if there is standing a tree somewhere, he will try to get it! If you are near him... HE WILL GRAB YOU! Be aware!
2) This diver wants to be "human". Every diver is a fish: Breaths under water. Fish can see under water.
So to become human: Put regulator out and diveglasses off!
