  • If they are Muslim, they shouldn't be hitting in the face.

  • Muslim?

  • Between goverment and its masses

  • I would've liked to have seen this style of fighting against (IN HIS PRIME) Muhammad Ali's WESTERN style boxing..

  • @Mrpreshutchins under what rules? if under these rules Ali would have been slaughtered.. there was a dambe fighter known as Shago who fought western boxers in Nigeria and was said to have fell seven in one day.

  • The Hausa people are crazy

  • @IfImBeingHonest nope they just have courage something most people lack these days

  • Why don't they teach this shit in America???!!!!

"Oh that's right no one cares about Sub Saharan Africa."

    By Senate James Inofe

  • @TheBanditghettoninja

Sadly, this is true... Africa in the entirerity has been stripped of its idenity.... Dambe needs to be popularized, and although this is off topic, ancient egypt needs to be officially recognized as a black state -.-.... I'm tired of historians portraying it as a white nation

  • Comment removed

  • @Sads626 I agree. Its mainly Sub Saharan Africa that always has the bad view. North Africa which is arab dominated always is looked up as a rich and superior part of the continent. .

  • @Sads626 Go tell an african he has no identity see how long you last mate. As for being "tired of historians portraying (egypt) as a white nation" what are you simple? It is a caucasian nation. Buy a plane ticket go see for yourself. Or better yet buy a few books learn to read.

  • @buffysnug you misunderstood historically, imperialism had robbed african nations of culture, women, wealth, history etc in essence it's idenity. I also wrote "ancient egypt." In reality, the ancient egypt was composed of a myriad of cultures, from nubian to arab, however, ultimately, ancient egypt had a siginificant indigenous african influence. egypt of today is a different place than the country of antiquity. There is a large arab community, but they are not orignal.

  • @Sads626 Who portrays ancient Egypt as a "white state"? Ive never heard of this. Sometimes ruled by arabs, but "white?"

  • 0:30 pause that is exactly what i have seen on the walls of ancient egypt

  • @MrRobyopunkass hausas are a kemetic tribe

  • @halfhausaman i know they have eastern origin (Nubia/Egypt)

they even speak a similar afro-"asian" language.

actually many tribes in W.Africa have eastern origins.

even mummar Kaddafi claimed most tribes wer the ORIGINAL arabs that populated the areas 4rm canaan - Yemen.

    Yemen Especially

  • @MrRobyopunkass I speak the language :o)

  • these are the oldiest figbhting styles on earth no one else can claim that these are the first peopl to live on earth

  • @0102106kls Yeah, they DO look pretty damn outdated bahaha. Absolutely no combinations to load up on and no potential for footwork/defense variation. Dumb stuff if you ask me.

  • @grapebusted My understanding is that the lead hand is called the "shield" and the striking hand is called the "spear." From that context, I can assume it is meant to mimic warfare, without people actually dying. Makes sense that the competitors would be cautious.

  • Its funny how some ignorant commenters would talk bad about Africans but when they see shit like this on youtube they turn around and want to claim it as their own or come up with a stupid excuse of why its there. There is no western influence in this art. I have a few friends who are hausa. So shut the fuck up.

  • For all of you thinking it's impossible dambe was based on oriental arts, I'll have you know that caoeira originated in Senegal before finding it's way to Brazil through slave trade!!

It was only of recent years that taekwondo incluenced some of the kicks... and yes, I am hausa! (Mu ne fa!!)

  • I've read of this art. Its an African kickboxing art of the Hausa. Its leg techniques are similar to tae kwon do and muay thai but was rarely used in matches. Soon TKD was introduced to them and now kicks very common. Though the techniques were very similar TKD only influenced the roundhouse kicking techniques. Other than that, this is an African martial art and has no western influence. It's its own the thing. Knowledge before judgment

  • @fakespotter

    @leolucas1980

Both of you are full of shit. Styles are incapable of fighting, so arguing about which style would win is an immense waste of time. What matters is the skill of the fighter, that's it. Nobody has ever fought by yelling out what style they practice and agreeing that one is better. Why? Because style has nothing to do with it.

  • @fakespotter asiatic martial arts are myth? then why do armed forces around the world incorporate asian martial arts as well as boxing and wrestling into their fighting systems?

  • its a black thang....

  • So do they hit each other , or is this a stareing contest.

  • They look like they are auditioning for a guitar advert.

  • These brothers look intense. How old is the Dambe art? Are there any books on the subject?

  • these guy would be finished if they were up against asian martial arts. i'm not being mean, just being honest

  • @fakespotter I would agree but it depends on the fighters. There really is not best martial arts its all based on how good the fighter is.

  • @fakespotter

I'm not sure... Muay Thai and Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu seems to be very effective, but most Asian martial arts seems to be better at the movies. I doubt a Kung Fu fighter could easily hit a western boxer, for example (unless the Kung Fu guy uses some weapon).

To be effective, a wrestling tecnique must involve real contact. However, I would never practice Muay Thai, because I'm not the kind of person that enjoys to get hurt for no reason. And most martial arts are useless against guns.

  • @leolucas1980 these are not western, they are african. theres no good standing pose the way these guy are fighting

  • @fakespotter

I don't remember saying that they are western, but I could say that they are geographically westerner than Greece. And Africa has been largely influenced the the so-called "Western culture" anyway. Besides, Africa originally was only the name of a Roman province in the North of the continent, so we could say that they are not Africans.

Each word can have differenet meanings.

  • @fakespotter More like the puny gook will die. Asiatic Martial arts is just a myth. Boxing and werstling have proven superior. Only the Brazilian version of jj has proven to be extremely effective.

  • @TemplarX2 LOL ... says the guy who bases his information off of sporting events with rules and pads. I'm sure you can say what you did with confidence because you've practiced and become proficient at all styles. Right? LOL ... some people.

  • I like there battle stance.

  • @Jabbaro123 Ive just seen brother Ahati kilindi Iyi (Ta Merrian Institute) in the UK’s, Martial Arts Illustrated magazine (july 2010 issue). It's a nice interview. African fighting arts don’t get good media coverage like Asian arts do. In fact, most people think martial arts is only an Asian thing. Africans and Europeans have their own arts.

  • @nubanwarrior I guess they only get little coverage because of all of the Kung Fu cinemas that Asian's have created and the Asian's do have a long History in the Martial Arts world and i'm not trying to use this as a scape goat but. African Martial arts will always be overlooked in America heck you still have some people who are trying to take credit for inventing Hip Hop when we all know who made it.

  • @Jabbaro123 Its rare to find a program that teaches martial arts that is not Asian in the U.S., and majority of people who teach martial arts are Asian. If Africans kept in touch with their martial arts during slavery we would be like the Asians making money off of Martial art movies and teaching Martial arts in the U.S.. Its sad that alot people think Martial arts is an Asian only culture.

  • @Daxter609 Sad thing is a percentage of African Americans today don't really care about the accomplishments of there own people.

  • @Jabbaro123

    Correct.

  • @shango1963 Thank you.

  • @Daxter609

Africans did/do, you just don't hear about it because there is no African indigenous martial arts mass marketing campaign for these.

  • @Daxter609

    Check out these texts on indigenoua, ancient African martial arts: AFRICAN ARTS mag., Vol. 19, No.1, "Martial Arts Of The Annang," by Jill Salmons, on the martial arts of the Annang speaking peoples of Nigeria.; Knights Of The Congo, which mentions the martial arts still practiced by the Luba and Lunda speaking peoples ofthe DRC, central Africa;

  • @Daxter609

...Forces Of Manding, on the martial arts of the Guinea kingdom of Wassaloun, still practiced by the SOFA warrior sect (from medieval Mali), both by Patrick Gorham .

    Enjoy.

  • @Jabbaro123

We Africans can and must fix that, since is our cultural practices involved.

  • @shango1963 True.

  • @memorandum29 all the vids ive seen of this style show extremely primitive ineffective strategies and techs compared to modern combat sports like lickboxing, thai, boxing wrestling, mma.

  • @billysue2 lickboxing LOL

  • go nigeria

  • very cool always good to see African martial arts. Ag'ya reminds me of this.

  • @Narmer instead of african martial arts..just say original martial arts

  • this is one of the africans slower martial arts of counter fighting.

i Liked some of the other style of african arts i saw that were straight to the point.

  • i would like see more vids like this

  • @hotpopcorncake there is very little coverage on african martial arts and fighting styles unfortunately.

  • @BlakcNinja True! Capoeira has it's roots in senegal but very few people know that. Slave trade is the reason it ended up in Brazil.

  • @Lowdninja I'm sorry your talking about Ladja, which was influenced by laamb of senegal, engolo of angola and some other art that was from Senegal as well that looked like capoeira. Capoeira roots lead to nigeria, angola, congo, mozimbique, and CAR. There is an art fight dance in guinea that is like kungfu but it takes the form of the monkey, the snake, and panther.

  • is it about the stands, cus i didnt see any action.

  • african martial arts! cool!

  • does this go in in Kenya and Uganda? I am going there this summer and it would be cool to watch one

  • Did you not see Nigeria in the description? Why would it go on in Kenya? Because they are black too? How dumb.

  • @rexwetwillykilgore

In Kenya, they have traditonal Chikundi, a whole ancient military art done for sport also but with no hand wraps.

  • wow this shits pretty intense, it'd be interesting to see a traditional dambe fighter against a traditional muay thai fighter

  • The Dambe guy would get murdered. Their stance dosent offer a good surface to block low kicks and they lead with their right hand far too often. They would get chopped down and countered all day. All it is to avoid that right hand would be to slip it and counter with a stiff hook to the body or head.

  • yeah yeah

  • true .. their legs would be destroyed with low kicks

  • @Jackthestripper

Kicks are thrown low as well, so that's nonsense.

  • @shango1963 its not nonsense at all. I said it provides a terrible base for checking kicks, not throwing them.

  • well said

  • your a douche bag ( @romarinho89)

  • can white americans compete in it

  • not really its done by traditional fighters from the Hausa tribe but you can watch the spectacle.

  • damn, im goin to africa on safari and id LOVE 2 compete

  • @codymana1

You must know Dambe to compete.

  • i love dambe. out of all my MA's this has gotta be one of my favorites.

  • and that roundhouse kick was sweet

  • I dont understand all these debates about where martial arts started. All martial art means is the art of fighting. War ha sbeen around as long as mankind, all cultures have martial arts which ofte developed into sport. Africa was the first continent so would have had fighting arts first

  • It is too bad that I can not learn this martial art in the united states.

  • yes that round kic was sweet

  • Does anybody know if throws are legal in Dambe?

  • yeah, it has grappling aspects as well called kokowa, anyone with questions about my tribe or our martial art should feel free to message me.

  • i read somewhere that martial arts were invented in southern india

  • In Southern India? Maybe. Fighting styles have been around since the dawn of time, and you tend to repeat a move that works and tell your friends about it. And once there are competitive rules involved, the style starts to evolve around those rules (see wrestling, boxing, judo, etc) However, the earliest evidence I know of a "martial art", as in specific and disciplined move sets etc, would probably be Ancient Greek Pankration. I've heard about ancient Egyptian styles, but I'm not convinced.

  • bs people didnt just learn how 2 fight when greece came along. people ahve been practicing martial arts for years b4 greece ever came along. the birthplace of martial arts is africa, and im not trying 2 convince u.

  • 1. There's a difference between a "fighting style" and a "martial art". With no training, every person who gets into a fight will have a "fighting style" - but that doesn't make it a "martial art", now does it?

    2. I didn't say that Martial Arts were DEFINITELY invented anywhere. I just said the EARLIEST EVIDENCE was etc etc. Really, who the fuck knows?

  • oh may bad i misinterpreted ur statement and i agree with u

  • in Sri Lanka ,,, there iz 1 ,, but diz seems to be the indian style ,,,,

  • No, no, no...Chinese Martial arts came from India, and so did Buddhism. I don't remember much but from what I know, a monk in India brought martial arts to China and taught it to all the Buddhist monks, and then they became "warrior monks" and defended the Chinese community from the corrupt Chinese Government.

Africa had almost nothing to do with India at that time, so the majority of African styles were made in Africa, by the Africans!

  • You are actually referring to the Shaolin Monks. However, Bodhidharma did not actually teach them the martial arts, despite popular belief. He taught them breathing exercises and postures for health benefits because the monks at that time were not strong and looked unhealthy. However, these postures were then used for the base of the martial arts they had created. So, technically speaking, Chinese MArtial Arts did come from India but not from their martial arts but instead their exercises.

  • Nice kicks.

  • Capoeira was born in africa as a dance/game. It was developed as a martial art in Brazil.

  • wrong

  • Right

  • great, na gode sosai!

  • sanu dan uwa!!!

  • These are real warriors. I hope some people aren't getting intimidated.

  • does anyone know the rules of these fights

    this look real interesing

    5/5*s

  • I used to remember when I was kid my Dad kept telling me that my Grandfather was a well-known wrestler back in his day. I know that he used to traveled back and forth to Sokoto very often back then; even some of our distant family members are still there. So its HIGHLY possible that he himself participated in these bouts! It would've been cool if they had a written record of famous fighters from the last century.

  • btw My Grandfather's people were Hausawa originally from Upper East Region, northern Ghana.

  • no, hausa are from Nigeria, northern Nigeria.

  • hausas are originally nigerian ghanaian hausas migrated from nigeria.

  • and Niger (North of Nigeria)

  • correct.

  • kai wawa ne!!

  • sokwoto is in nigeria get your facts str8 wawa!!

  • anyone know what type of martial art that move like a breakdance?

  • You're probably thinking of Capoeira. It's a martial art from Brazil.

  • yes yes..thx..finally..

  • reminds me of Karate or somthing.

  • check out here on youtube a video called kemetian fighting

  • According to Wikipedia there's also a grappling element of Dambe (Or at least there use to be)

Does it still exist? Where could I see some of that?

  • yes it doe its calle kokowa but you cant find the videos on the internet this fight is just an exhibition if you have anymore questions message me i'm from north nigeriaoriginally.

  • Thank you for this video they talk about every nation in the world beside Africa when it comes to Martial arts as if warrior there just fought with out any kind of training. To the person or persons that got this video please try and get old warrior story from the elders of these tribe and just like Om Bak make movie

  • im glad the culture of my tribe is finally acknowledged

  • Dambe & Capoeira, FOREVER!

  • some of the act all hard wen they win

they have no respect for the apponent

unlike in most other tribal sports

  • Those are probably the ones who were too much trouble. May we all be too much trouble to enslave.

  • oh shut up your bloodline got carried to america mine killed of the portugese go and die

  • i thought batuque died out, do you have anymore literature about it in africa?

  • Interesting, but people either dont know or tend to forgit that capoeira is african also, it was created by the slaves from angola, forma angola then regional was created

  • dambe fightiing has little action because it is all about laying one criticle shot tho the opponent

  • I want to see more because this was too short. I also want to see South African Stick fighting if anyone has it.

  • that was anice leg kick 2 high kick combo there.

  • ^^exactly

Africa has plenty of martial arts. Usually within each tribe.

  • If it stupid go watch something else. Youtube retards always have dumbshit to say and nothing constructive.

  • Thanx for the video. This is the first time I actually saw African martial art. Could someone post Zulu stick fighting video too?

  • I always wanted to know if Africa had any martial arts, I want to see a little more.

  • trust me there are alot, but slavery killed off alot of them, or misplaced them.

  • Wow, that was something I did know.

  • The only problem with this video is it is too short. Were are the other AfricaWrites videos on African martial arts. They need to put out a full length dvd oon each art. More! More!

  • That sucks, when they kick the dirt probably flies in their oppenents eyes. and these guys need to attack more.

  • Great vid lanfia!

And like most things, they say martial arts exist everywhere else BUT Africa...

  • very good
