I just ordered up myself a Sog Flash II Tanto model # FSAT-8 and have been reading over many reviews prior to purchase and I would say that 9 out of 10 had a good rating for this Sog EDC ,but many did say that there was some noticable free play in the blade. This is a bit of a concern ,but like many products it may be just the nature of the beast. I will post a review once I get this trick looking, fast deploy knife and will also do a follow up after some rugged use of this EDC.
"This is the cat's ass!" LOL You really convinced me to buy a Flash 2. I've been considering it for a while now, now that I saw this video, I'm sold. Now every time I get my Flash 2 out I'm going to think "This is the cat's ass!" lol
I don't think I'd like that "SOG Assisted" opening system........seems like while in your pocket, a car key could push up on that hair trigger thumb stud and deploy the blade.......might even jab me in the balls or rip my nutsack open if I'm on the run: <). Well maybe not that bad, but I'd first have to try this blade out before coming to any conclusions about it. I've always liked Kershaw's Speedsafe and Flippers. I've had their Leeks and Skylines for years and love them.
@Lex5576 Rule 1.) Your keys should never be in the same pocket as your knife. Just not a wise idea. :) I also have an affinity for Kershaw/Speedsafe knives. I will say this, though. Of all assisted opening knives that use thumbstuds only, this is by far the easiest to open that I have ever seen. Thanks for watching and for the comment.
@Lex5576 i have a kershaw black out and have never had a problem with it coming open in my pocket plus dont ya think the knife maufacturers that invented the assisted opening devices might have tested em first over and over again to make sure they dont just come open by them selfs not saying it cant happen but probablly not gonna happen unless u have messed with the knife in some way or are careless with it , just saying
@TheJasper808 This was actually shot on a regular flip cam which doesn't have a "focus". I've since upgraded to a much better camera that shoots HD and focuses quite well. I appreciate the feedback/comment but you don't seem to wanna offer anything other than criticism here. Considering you don't have any videos on your channel, that's not generally received very well in the YT community.
@ndawg227 It does have a lil bit, honestly. For the money, and considering it is assisted opening, I can't be too hard on it though. For what it is, I like it.
@matthews1rs I've got side to side. No up down blade play. And yes Benchmade & Kershaws are in a whole different class. Love the axis lock. But this knife's clip is good and cheap enough to ruin. I never liked to but my better knives through too much even though they can take it.
I just bought the Flash 2 and I am kind of on the fence. I was expecting a stainless liner but with the weight I can't complain about that. I purchased the combo edge and will carry it for a while before making a judgement. The blade is unholy sharp. I will say that much! Thanks for the review.
@mrjimbofox also one of my favorite blades to carry. Light in weight, best clip ever! and opens with a flick of the wrist. Although my Kershaws have slightly nicer metal and blades they are much harder to close. I'm actually looking to expand my SOG collection since they are at the very least 50% cheaper than others
@MrJimbofox no no no thumb nudging works fine, but I don't use my thumb usually, I just do a quick wrist flick the second I pull it out of my pocket, I JUST posted a video of me flicking it from my desk at work!
@Mikenopolis Ah I see you are hard at work!!! haha. Thumb opening definitely looks faster though. I know it is for me. But w/e floats your boat! Thanks so much for watching! Hope you are enjoying all the vids.
@Mikenopolis 50% cheaper, because they are cheap. Just got mine, Nothing but blade play from side to side and up AND down. Not to happy with it. Think ill stick to my Benchmades. Get what you pay for :)
i just got this knife, and i am very very disapointed..
the handle is a bad design, and not comfortable,, the jimping on the back is a joke.. the bade is nice, and so is the clip, but the handle ruined it for me
@sonnydukes Wow, I'm sorry you didn't are for it so much. It certainly has its areas of needed improvment (what knife doesn't) but I feel for the price asked, it's a very decent EDC choice.
lmao the cats ass :P great review!! i think this will be the next knife i buy after i get the kershaw shallot.. couldn't decide if I liked how the assisted opening mechanism worked compared to kershaws speedsafe torsion bar design but i wont be using this particular knife too hard and im pretty much sold on the light weight.. so over all very excited to get my hand on one! thanks for the review!
@fallenspirit123 Any decent online vendor should have the new ones. The old ones were discontinued some time ago. Knifecenter shows only the new ones.
Just a note about the safety lock and opening the blade in your pocket. If you flip your pocket clip over and carry it in the same pocket, it reverses the direction the blade opens in relation to the seam of your pants. I carry this way, because when I pull the knife out the buttons (lock and safety) are facing up and can be pushed easily with my thumb.
@RubiconJoey Thanks for the comment. If I understand what you are saying correctly, with respect to the buttons facing up/near your thumb, carrying it the regular way basically accomplishes the same thing. When I pull the knife outta my pocket, my thumb is right near the lock. I don't worry about the safety because I removed it as I feel it's stupid. Thanks for watching.
i have the flash 2 that has the arch lock. love it, great knife, very sharp. but im kinda like u i dont like the straight up and down lock. do they still sell the arch lock one or do they just sell the up and down lock now. good review
I have the "oldschool" version, It got left on top of the dog house outside for about five days and went through two major rain storms and still works like a charm.
I'm sure the safety is there for liability purposes, most all assisted knives have them...but they are kinda BS. I suppose options are good, but if they're gonna do it, they should at least make it one of the "ratchet" kind like Benchmade does, which stays in place and doesn't inadvertantly come on in your pocket.
Very Nice Review! Glad to know you still enjoy the SOG Flash II. I just bought another one the other day with green camo! Just doesn't have the Arc Lock. Sweet Blade, "The Cats Ass" LOL!

frenchfried100 3 weeks ago
@frenchfried100 Hahaha don't feel that way. The older style has it's place but the new one is definitely superior IMO. Lot easier to operate.

@cutrite851 Not unsafe, just not as refined IMO.
