  • The most beautiful Concert for piano ever written.

  • @trancosomarcus : I definitely can't love this piano concerto, nor like it. I can listen to it but with a light suffer. it there any problem with me? :)

I way much prefer Prokofiev 3, is it a bad choice? :)

  • cleveroonie - I have saw Argerich twice in concert now - the first time she played Prokofiev's third and the second time she played Ravel G Major. They were outstanding performances. I met her after she played Ravel - she was such a lovely person and stood and spoke to me for abot 30 mins! She was schedled to perform Schumanns A minor concerto in Edinburgh this August but has cancelled. I believe that she has no other concerts in the UK this year.....

  • ravel wrote this after meeting with Gershwin i believe, so of course jazz. in fact he gave a lecture in the states urging us to incorporate that into our music as much as we can.

  • My piano teacher introduced me in 1957 to Robert Casadesus at my Saturday lesson. The very first thing i thought was that this great man had known Maurice Ravel. It made me feel very excited and also very grateful to shake his hand.

  • I would love to see her play, does anyone know when she is next in the UK?

  • those glissando's are unique

  • I don´t know if I´m right, but I think... she´s overcome her anxiety (witch makes her start to run over the tempo), that´s why she now plays at the tempo she wants but in agreement previously with the orquesta, of course... not moved by the anxiety. Sorry my english.

  • I can't decide whether i like this version or her earlier (1985) version better... they're both great!

  • do i detect some jazz there? or is it just me?

  • Yep, it's there, which is pretty amazing when one considers that this piece is 80+ years old. Ravel met Gershwin and came into contact with jazz and Gershwin during his American tours. Some might say that it is jazz inspired but technically not jazz because it lacks the element of improvisation that is so much a part of the jazz tradition. But it certainly does contain blues notes and some great syncopated rhythms. And this is an amazing performance!

  • thank you. so im not going crazy XD

  • @TheAspenTom oh doesn't is just effuse Gershwinesque flair ?!

  • @LetTheMusicFlow1 now I can see why Gershwin wanted to take composition lessons from Ravel..

  • @LetTheMusicFlow1 Probably... All the impressionist artists were influenced by Jazz :)

  • You are the best!!!!

  • the sliding part is totally different as her younger recordings!! =))))))))))

  • The cadenza is out of this world, those trills are pure magic, no one in the world has that touch and colours. Camera work is excellent too, very professional.

  • Compared to previous performances, Martha seemed to linger slightly more in the slower passages this time, as if to savour the fragrance of the notes. And her cadenza is even more ravishing and magical than ever!

  • we the innocent hearers are the real critics. and this is a fine charged performance getting better with age. Look forward to more solos too.

  • She is so beautiful in her playing. Incredible

  • 3:11 to 3:43

Where does she find all that energy?

  • yeah, this is pure magic -- Martha is a wizard!!!

  • @jannokas85 A Which! Hahaha

  • LOL -- you could say she's a witch. and i think she's cast a spell on me ;)

  • This concerto has gotten better with age.

  • you can say the same for Argerich. :)

  • Only youuuuuuu...:-))))))))
