I grew up right next to the coaster on Beach 97th. My grandmother owned a boarding house named the Hotel Charles. I still remember being woken up by the chains of the coaster bringing the cars to the top. It's sad to go back there now.
Great memories. I worked for Playland in 1971 when I was 17. I worked in the office
With the owners. Mrs. Geist (Phyllis) and her mother, Mrs. London who I would drive home at night after the park closed. I remember I made the minimum wage at the time of $1.85/hr. It really takes me back to a much more innocent time. Years later, I became a chiropractor and one of my patients who owned a construction company, used his heavy equipment to dismantle the park. He brought me some memorabilia.
I'm contacting Donald Trump to see if he can recreate a time and place long forgotten but desperately needed in our drug reidden high tech materialistic world. If you do the same maybe the upside down ferris wheel will help us to puke up the night befores partying LOL
rockaway looked so nice back then. unfortunately i was born in 1990 in far rockaway so as you know the only rockaway i know is the ghetto thugged out rockaway.
'twern't me. The only problem with the job is that it was right next to the merry-go-round and it played the same 7 tunes over and over again all day long.

Suggestion, spend more time on the
photo images and less time on the graphics, too much of a 'good thing'.

Pre-ghetto, pre-thug Rockaway was outstanding! Wherever we are in the country, ex-Rockawayites still gather together and reminisce.

Grew up Rockaway. I remember Big Bow Wow on Crossbay, amazing burger place. I also remember Playland and Martins Corner.

Yeah, I love Rockaway. Too bad Robert Moses had to come in and ruin it. I wish some of its history had been preserved.
Also, this is probably the weirdest and most annoying picture montage I've ever seen. The Ramones followed by Christmas music? WTF??!!

i wish rockaway was still like this

Kind of an odd video. But, Playland was great place, until certain people ruined it.

My fist job was selling cotton candy at Playland about a 1/2 century ago.
Love the Ramone's "Rockaway Beach" - not much on lyrics, but great in memory.
