  • The more I think about it, the more I believe Jellyfish came closer than anyone to the genius of the Beatles. After seeing this clip I rest my case. And thats just one of their songs!

  • Esta banda es demasiado buena. Una pena que sólo tengan dos discos.

This band is too good. It's a pity they only released two albums.

  • Not bad, its easy to listen to when you want to relax!

  • Love these guyz! 90zzz Beatlezzzzzzzzzzzzz!

  • this song will always hold such a special meaning to me.. *sigh*

  • Few things are cooler than a drummer who sings.

And then few things are cooler than a drummer who stands up and sings.

  • @Arastophes haha. i agree, but he might be the first!

  • Love that lower harmony

  • @plndv3363 Totally forgot about the Lite Brite! Awesome! (mistakenly commented under udagoau which is my wife's account...)

  • Songs this good can move a young hard rock fan to play drums in pop bands... *GUILTY as charged!

  • Great band ...I caught them in Atlanta yrs. ago....I beleive the original lineup included Tim Smith on bass

  • great song =)

  • Bellybutton! My all time favourite album! These guys should have been huge...

  • great song

  • A whole band of bishounen!!

  • chujowe

  • MMP & BT 4 EVER! :o) ....when u think u got it figured out, then u know u dont...

  • Caught them live at the Stone Pony in Asbury Park, NJ a loooong time ago. One of the best shows I've ever seen. Such a shame that they were so short lived.

  • @udagoau I was at that show as well... loved the way they had the band's logo on a Lite Brite

  • And by the way the bass KICKS ASS on this!!

  • This song is genius. 'Nuff said.

  • I miss this band. They were so fun live. Never get sick of their songs.

  • everything about this song rocks my world...and that is why...

  • Do you have all of their releases? If you do then u know what I'm sayin. From the heart is correct, I don't think they thought twice about what they put out. Heck, Roger is still doing that to this day. He writes stuff that nobody does. Most guys wouldn't be caught dead doing his type of material. I really do hope he puts out another CD. What's your take on Jason I'm curious to know.

  • As far as Jason's material, you're right there is a common thread but IMO, it was inspiration and mimicry that drove Jason's sound to sound like Jellyfish.. but I wouldn't even say it was a lot alike just certain characteristics, such as the bass and guitar "sound". His music was way more rough edged and his vocal arrangements... well.. are the dead giveaway. I'd say other than the orchestral(violins!, etc) and vocal work side of things, he sounded more original and less like them.. Andy&Rog!

  • and his copy of "inquiring minds".... want to know.

  • she kept her nose too clean...sniff sniff

  • Jellyfish had the best compositions was the best Rock Group

on the planet !! And it STILL STANDS TODAY ! They were THE BEST !!!!

    Signed, the legendary Ronnie Ciago

  • fuck u and fuck u. I spent years telling my friends you exist

  • Great song, but a better version of this video is found if you search for the user "emiamericarecords". Thanks anyway though - Jellyfish was the best!

  • pure genius

  • strange but interesting

    intended to be watched high??

  • @TidusMMM

Yeah, I think maybe it was. (And it was a little more fun.)

  • Saw them in Minneapolis at First Ave, full house.

  • was lucky enough to these guys at the Hard Rock Cafe in San Francisco when this album came out....there were only 20 people in the place, what a shame.

  • *sniff* 1:10

  • a little of that too huh? Seriously stop being so damn "nosey".. lo jk. haha.

  • Actually Jason Falkner played all the Bass parts on "Bellybutton", except on "All I Want Is Everything", "Now She Knows She's Wrong" & "Baby's Coming Back" played by Steven Shane McDonald of Redd Kross.

  • Ahhh yes, Redd Kross another stellar band of the era.

  • How sure are you of this. I am aware of McDonald of Redd Kross playing on the record but never knew which one of them played which. If this is absolutely true then thanks. What about guitars, I know Andy is also credited at guitar. How much of it is Andy to Jason's work? Also there was another player who played bass-stand-up?

  • bedspring kiss had john pattitucci on upright bass.

  • curiusly!

  • Comment removed

  • @cooley23 Maybe you're forgetting "Bedspring Kiss". Those would be my guesses as well. But, how do we both know this for sure. Just have to go with assumption of style and "sound" les there's actual name credits on the songs, specifically Jason is not mentioned. Also you have this T-Bone guy or upright bass player. Hell, it could be Steven McDonald on "King" and several others. We just don't know.

  • @popnutty I guess Falkner didn't write a note of Jellyfish's music, but to hear his solo material you could swear he did. Good to know there are others that are hopelessly hooked on what I consider "pop". I can pick a hook out of a song a mile away now.

  • @kipptumor :).... "until the hook can pull the bridge into view".. haa! can you guess where that lyric came from- what song? Just playing... I see what you're saying though. Well according to sources that is, and the fact that they had already signed a deal before Jason came aboard, assuming the material or most of it had already been written. Jason added his touch as well but he didn't write any of the original IDEAS I guess you can say but they all jelled together as one! To be contin...

  • Yes! Too Much, Too Little, Too Late. THAT is an amazing track - That entire album was like the Sargeant Pepper of the 90's as far as I am concerned. The production is way WAY over the top, and why not. The way that they rebelled against "alternative" by cranking up the "commercial" aspects of music was pure genius, but at the same time their songs are from the heart and proved that it is okay to write SONGS again.

  • @kipptumor :)(: .. I couldn't agree with you more!! Great comparison along of course, the Beach Boys. Sorry couldn't avoid that one..L.. Yah, in a nutshell Jfish was so different from everyone else, over the top, and it's just quite remarkable given the wide variety of songs they put out in such a short amount of time. I think that fact alone for me has always been another spark to their greatness. You can't really say that about other bands, especially in the 90's and in general...

  • I actually remember this, what 90 or 91?

  • love jellyfish so much

  • I don't think Chris Manning ever actually learned how to play bass even to this day...

  • No, he got really good. he started a band with my brothers girlfriend after he left Jellyfish, called Honey. they kinda sounded like the sundays. he's now a recording engineer in the SF bay area. but your right, he joined jellyfish after the album was recorded. he is however on all the live B sides that they put out on their singles.

  • The clip is cheesy, but the song is good. Love Jason Falkner's bass - they were all so young.

  • jason falkner's playing guitar

    chris manning is playing bass:)

  • Damn havent heard this since 91 or 92.Takes me back and makes me sad.Thanx for posting!!!!

  • Sorry, Eric Dover did not sing backing vocals in Jellyfish. To clarify, he did not sing any vocals on Spilt Milk it was primarily Andy and Roger singing all types of vocals(like usual)with Tim Smith(bassist-most likely minimal on the actual recordings). I just posted this comment on Sextus remake of "That is Why". He sang back-ups only live and on the road and of course played guitar. An actual quote from Tim Smith, "Roger is the mastermind behind our vocals"-printed in BAM Magazine Feb 93'

  • The earlier quote I mentioned by Tim Smith is mostly to that affect. Sorry I ran out of room,LOL!

  • I love!

  • but it's been a loooong time since...it was for the monsters of the millennium tour with Alice Cooper Ronnie james Dio and Ratt.

  • his vocals on slash's snakepit is different, but good...the dude has got an awesome voice.

  • Actually, that's Andy Sturmer singing here. Eric Dover had vocal duties for Slash's Snakepit, but only did backing vocals for Jellyfish...but both have a great set of pipes...

  • huh, you're right...all I remember about this band was, that he appeared to be mentioned as he was the lead or something in an article once, but wiki gives you the answer on that one. Either way, this song really suits the story.

  • Not exactly correct. Eric Dover sang back up vocals ONLY when PERFORMING LIVE not as you put it... "only did backing vocals for Jellyfish", that's a little vague. He had nothing to do with the creative process.

  • so during the concert with Alice Cooper, he saw me standing in front of the stage, and threw his guitar-pick right at me, and I caught it.

    One of the best evenings.

They were late, for that afterparty and wasn't there before midnight, but then they played for 2 hours...great...hard rock café the year of 2000, I think it was.

  • Well...these guys aren't bad...

I remember seeing Alice coopers band, where Eric performed with members from Ratt and so on, a great night, got to meet Calico Cooper, and some of the other members as well, including Eric Dover, who wasn't used to signing autographs...but a great evening. After the crowd left, I still hung out at the bar, talking to some of the people who worked there.

  • Great song. Great band. As usual Australian radio ignores yet another first class act.

Thanks to DKPete and Spiritual Architect from Amazon Rock forums for leading me here and rediscovering music worth listening to.

    Cheers Dan.

  • Wow there are some really sad people on here that go by and thumb down all the comments. Don't go to a video just to make fun of someone. That's just pathetic. And watch this comment get a lot of thumbs down because I said this. That's ok, it just proves my point.

  • @MrNewman24 ... You didn't really see what I was talking about, did you? I said it's annoying when people don't like a video so they thumb-down all the comments...

  • These are not my words... But it's the perfect description. "The band got their start in the

cultural wasteland that was the very late eighties when a

handful of musicians from defunct underground pop bands

from Los Angeles and San Francisco discovered a common

interest in highly stylized pop with a heavy British

    invasion influence."

  • omg i loooooove jellyfish! :)

  • The great Jason Falkner on guitar...

  • I love it when he throws his dreads back omg

  • spilt milk is an album i always go back to!

  • I saw this band at Toads Place in New Haven CT in 92 and they were awesome. They are my second favorite band to come out in the 90's. My favorite 90's band is Stone Temple Pilots. What can I say I have an eclectic taste in music and basically listen to anything except for rap. Can you imagine if Jellyfish and STP ever toured together?

  • Their music still holds up well today..I still listen to "Bellybutton" a lot, one of my favorite CD's ever...got to see them live a few years ago too!

  • Great underrated group who produced two great albums. Bellybutton and Spilt Milk. The style of clothes and hair was all the rage in the early nineties, also a touch of 60's retro kitch.

  • I am so glad I am not alone, I loved and still love them! Funny thing, I was thinking about this song the other night, and I found my CASSETTE TAPE of this album! Quality sucks, "THAT IS WHY" I had to look for this vid on YouTube. So happy I did, thanx!!!!

  • If their body of work had been bigger, they could've made a strong case for best band EVER I believe.

"Spilt Milk" already has my vote as greatest album ever. Get that if you don't have it.

  • Great to see I wasn't the only one who loved this band, when I seen them back in 93 opening up for Tears for Fears, I was hooked ever since, this is a great American band for sure!

  • I agree. Spilt Milk is defnitely one of the greatest albums I've ever had the pleasure of hearing. Bellybutton is good too, though. ;)

  • One thing that makes me laugh about this band is that they really are the best band ever, i mean even if you dont like the music.... they're the best band ever, lol

  • One of the best band ever ..thats why :D

  • The Jellyfish! I love this band.

  • Comment below meant to be a response to BobelVago about Puffy. I suck.

  • You know, idk if its a good thing, or a bad thing that they broke up so fast. Dont get me wrong I love this band, But at least they didnt over-stay their welcome like most bands.

  • Thats because they were a small band that everyone hated , although i personally think thats hard to beleive!

  • Jason!!!! one of my favorite little guitar parts - EVER. pure class!

  • Like all bands composed of musical geniuses they broke up. A reunion would be great, but I don't think it will happen. Roger, Tim, Jason all played together in one form or another after the breakup. Without Andy (the co-founder) it just wouldn't be the same. We need to get Puffy-Ami-Yumi to break up!.. then he might need the money bad enough to get back together and tour :P

  • Puffy-Ami-Yumi band is shit, I really hope they break up soon, then the reunion of jellyfish is possible...:( will it ever happen...

  • I wouldn't say they are shit... but I'd admit they aren't great singers.

Sad thing is though, since Andy won't put anything out, it's the best us fans can get.

I wish he'd put something out.

  • I always thought of them as a cross between Queen and the Beatles.

  • Just one of the BEST bands ever IMHO.

  • But where are they now!!?

    Super

  • Great song. Check the Pillbugs here for some more great music!

  • jellyfish will always have this song as a time capsule of what they were doing, when and where, but really the focus should be on their music and their brilliant (imo) interpretation of how 60's and 70's rock can fuse in the mind and create a musical phenomenon like this band, gone too soon, but with plenty of great songs to brag about. listen to spilt milk, too. great album, beach boys all over the damn thing, still resonates beauty.

  • Weird hearing this song after so many years...I think it came out when I was in Jr. High...good song, bad childhood memories! But who had a good time in Jr. High anyway?

  • Reminds me of playing Golden Axe and Madden NFL on the Megadrive. Great days.

  • I loved this band! This album was the best!!!

  • I forgot all about these guys. I used to own this and have not heard it for years. Thanks

  • Two CDs too little. TheNext band , related to them (the Grays) only lasted for one CD. Really too bad. I do get imense

    pleasure from them though.

  • Wow! I too havent heard them for 15 years! These guys ARE good!

  • This was a hit 15 years ago. Classic!!!! I haven`t heard it for years!!!! Thanks!!!

  • i just found out about them today they are awesome!

  • JELLYFISH.. we need them to get back together ..JELLYFISH

  • Aww I Wish They Were Still Playing Because I'd Get To Expirience It Properly. All The Adults Are So Lucky [I'm 15]. They're An Amazing Band.

  • Dude I would have so been hurling by the end of the video if I was in the band...lol

Great song, nice harmonies, love the jumping scenes, Falkner looks fine in this video.

  • I had never heard of Jellyfish untill I became close friends with Andy Sturmer's (The lead singer/Drummer),sister. Great find. Love their style.

  • do you know what they are up to now? Still Giggin'?

  • Andy Sturmer went to Japan to write songs for Puffy Ami Yumi. He's the one that came up with the name Puffy.

  • Roger Manning plays keys for Beck and put out a recent solo album, "The Land of Pure Imagination"

  • this video was tapedseveral months before the single/album came out was the kings undressed on mtv? i dont thnk i saw it on there thou babys coming back did that was a retro sounding big single ----the wizards of mellow sreet jellyfish

  • I saw their last concert in Hallandale, Fla. I still have the ticket stub somewhere. Sadly Flock of Seagulls was the headliner :(

I left after Jellyfish played :)

Check out the offshoots! Falkner etc...

  • Cooler than cool boys. Nice work Jellyfish.

  • wot a phat bass!!analog angels!

  • Jellyfish is one of my all-time favorite bands. I've been a fan since my teenage years in the 90's. I'm thrilled to see that other people still appreciate their genius!

  • thanks !! I have this on my ipod . Great song, so so album. but i enjoyed them as a group and the fact that they had a diff vibe from what was out at that time.

  • Amazing. Just brilliance.

  • Cheap Trick meets Crowded House, and that is no dis!

  • Please do 1 more tour, please. What a band! They would sell out all of the 10,000 capacity halls in about 5-6 hours. Please Andy and Roger.........if nothing else think of the cash.

  • AWESOME! thank you! I was a late discoverer of this band. I was missing out

  • God, I used to love this band. Thanks for posting. Miss them.

  • great video, great band ... remember going to see them in london and meeting the wonder stuff at the gig ... great times.

  • I watched Jellyfish's video when I was little back in 1990s.

  • great band

  • Jellyfish is amazing.

  • cool
