I like the "Gods of War" album. I just wish Karl's tone wasn't so fake sounding. When I hear cheap do-it-yourself demos on Myspace or what-not, everyone has the same Line 6 POD guitar tone. Super processed and not organic and real. Hook him up with a JCM 800 with a Boss SD-1, turn it up to 10 and rock the fuck out!

Gods of War is easily their best album since Hail to England. Anyone who doesn't see that is blind, or an American who has no comprehension or appreciation of orchestral music. That's why bands like Manowar and Rhapsody (and others) are HUGE around the world, and basically ignored here.

i saw them in the 80's and 90's a few times and in the 90's they were really frustrated at the decline of metal in the US and basically stopped touring here. I remember seeing them in a venue that was about 1/3 full and that was the last time they ever played there ( DC) ; i just wish they would give the US another chance like Iron Maiden did , I think they would be huge again here.

Why come to NY and play to 3-400 people when they can go to Poland and play to a few thousand. too many Americans are chasing pop music dreams.....

Like Wolf said, I think the reason Manowar only graces the states with tours about every five years is because their fan base in America is like a million times smaller than in Europe. And it would be impossible for them to bring the massive stage sets (life size viking ships, etc), because they usually play in clubs/halls that fit about 500 people. And surely from a financial perspective, America is probably a negative for them when compared to playing soccer stadiums in Europe.

Largely the American metal community doesn't even know Manowar exists, which surely is mind blowing considering that most everywhere else on earth they are considered as Gods.

I am not sure why, but in the US there is almost like a "blind spot" where Manowar is concerned; the metal fans know Maiden and Ozzy, etc; but with the exception of those of us that are older and were there when the band was dropping the first couple albums, the band is just not known of, which is surely a shame

one last thought about this; I think what the band needs to do to POSSIBLY awaken the newer American metal crowds to them is get on an Ozzfest or something that would give the band the ability to really bring their full stageshow to the US without losing their ass financially. After that, millions of concert goers who were previously oblivious to the bands existence would realize that The Gods of Metal were among them the whole time along; and then Manowar could consider playing the US more
