great review. i figure if enough time passes, all the holes will be patched up for doubt. hell, they convinced the AMA to publish articles saying it was good for your health back in the day, so weve come a long way i think haha
Did you see the NYT article about a recenty discovered oil industry document from 1995 showing that even then they knew the science of global warming and planned their whole "doubt campaign"? I don't know if that book has a chapter on CO2, but the industry MO is identical.
CO2 not exhaustively covered (he covers plenty and skims on the CO2 issue--big oil appears in the book, but more in relation to MOCA and benzene)
I asked Chris' publicity agent at their publisher to send me an early copy of their upcoming book Unscientific America for review. I'm looking forward to it!
This is importan--will definitely read up on this. On Youtube recently, there has been a debate by two highly subscribed users on DDT and its use for anti-malarial purposes--I felt the defender for DDT use was citing industry data and employing the deception you talked about. But for us in the lay population, it's so hard to tell! I laughed at the "Public Defense Industry" label--more like the Public "attack" industry, right? lol
The indiscriminate use of DDT is obviously unacceptable but it should not become a sacred cow. 3 million deaths annually requires drastic action so all measures need to be investigated without predudice.

You're probably familiar with the work of Robert Proctor at Stanford. If not, please look him up and his idea: agnotology.

Anyway, here's Chris Mooney's take on that:
