  • No way I'm giving my real name so people who don't like my videos..or like them a little to much 8 P ,can track me down. Started this channel today & went to open a Google+ to go with it to help promote it, that was before I read their policy. Not only did they want it on + also said it would put it on all G accounts & apps don't know if that includes YouTube, doesn't matter I +1 a video my name is associated with my YouTube name. Just a hop skip & a jump to my violated corpse from there 8 P

  • Google should clarify something. Their policy statement says: "Your common name is the name your friends, family or co-workers usually call you."

My friends, family and co-workers usually call me The Trace, so I'm waiting for them to explain what they want better because it seems they would not like my common name.

  • anonymity on internet is what brought us news, scoops, useful hacks, unexpressed points of view. i wouldnt cancel it

  • It would be clearer to refer to Google's policy as requiring the use of "government names", rather than "real names". Google has made it clear that they do not care about the names people actually use -- what they care about is the government-sanctioned name.

Remember April 2009, when Google refused to require YouTube users to register their government-sanctioned names in South Korea, because it was a restriction on freedom of expression? I do. Google seems to have forgotten.

  • @bblackmoor I'm annoyed by BOTH sides of the "argument/debate."

I could honestly careless about people wanting/not wanting to hide their names. I'm annoyed that my stream is clogged by Googlers and Pseudos wanting change to go in their favor. I've deleted many people from my circles due to over posting about this. I DON'T CARE.

The reason I don't care is because it doesn't effect me directly. I personally don't know anyone that has an issue with the policy.

  • Google already has their name. This whole "issue" is getting ANNOYING and overblown.

  • @JasonLChapman People who are annoyed at this issue are like people who were annoyed at all the protesting that women did in the 1920s, or the blacks did in the 1960s, or the gays have more recently. It is the complaint of someone who doesn't have to worry about the "annoying" issue themselves.

  • Pseudonyms are insufficient anyway

  • Having real personal information on the web can be immensily dangerous.

Just google "Kimmo Alm" and you see a real example.

A person's internet persona can be very different from one's public persona. A more true, unbridled persona.

To take that away is to severly damage the internet as it is today.

  • 4:24 !?

  • Blogstalk does not require real names.

  • Also, this needs to be said. If you don't like the product DON'T USE IT. People act like they HAVE to use google so they try to change it or whatever, this undermines what freedom of choice is supposed to be about and treating google like its a monopoly. By giving in to google's dominance and treating them like a faux monopoly, you're actually submitting to them when you don't have to. You've already lost because you're playing google's game. Get a clue people.

  • @blacklite911 No the EFF spokesperson said that the issue was brought up because Google was asking for input from the field testing users.

  • @JasonLChapman yea, I get the spokeswoman's point but people in general and especially RT (with their previous videos) are pissed about google's non anonymous policy. They did something similar with the youtube thing. Its just seems to me the framing of the debate is wrong, instead of arguing against google, they should be promoting and creating alternatives.

  • You can even make a facebook with a fake name dude, its not that big deal. All you need is ANY first and last name, stop bitching about stuff that isn't a problem.

  • My google plus name is: Jack Oftin

  • I have many facebook accts all with fake names so NO anonymity is not going away

  • uh, i know lots of people on facebook that use fake names...

  • Google - "Do no evil", That is why they track you, want your real name and phone number pinned to your account, real name on google+, and a gmail account just to use their ChromeOS. Basically, they want to know who is doing what, when and where; Why? Marketing; eventually total disclosure to governments. This is a step towards a more openly monitored web. The dots are there, join them. Apple are doing the same. Anonymity dispels fear; f**k off you fascists.

  • Now this is taking over our internet ocean

  • Facebook and now google+ are merely shiny objects to keep the populace distracted and pacified. Once the ghouls whose goal is world domination realized the shiny objects could also be used to rally people against them, there went your privacy. Nobody forces anybody to have any "presence" online, it's all voluntary. You CAN have a fulfilling life without a facebook page. Said this elsewhere yesterday, but if you could "like" the revolution, our society would change overnight, but you can't!

  • @SOLE2SOUL The most real comment I have seen all week...

  • 1. go to google

    2. make acct with fake name

    3. have google+ acct with fake name

  • Facebook make a lot more money selling peoples identities to Governments and corporations. They sold the Gaza fleet protester info to US and Egyptian government.

  • I could swear I've read of people who left Facebook for Google+ because of privacy issues. I have the feeling that, if Google doesn't give people what they want, someone will create a new social network that will.

  • You can have a made up name on facebook!

  • you tube is a social networking site! lol

  • @skuloop yes, youtube is a social network

  • just dont get google +, simple. along with facebook. all they do is sell your personal information anyway, its fucking retarded. but you still have these retarded children and camwhores/attentionwhores who will always have a profile on these social network sites.

  • I believe it makes things easier to know the person you are talking to, specially on a website that deals with an important news paper in your area!

  • People who argue against anonymity by claiming it protects trolls are trolls. The focus of the debate should not be anonymity vs no anonymity. The focus should be on the fact that people are scared of openly saying what they believe, telling the truth(whistle blowing), and being critical of the government and their corporate partners that hold monopolies on the use of force and capital. That fear is real & appropriate. End the monopoly on the use of force/capital, then debate about +/-anonymity.

  • Why so that if we say something someone doesn't like they can ruin your life? I am still against zionism and use my real name on facebook. But can it ruin my life because I speak out on it? Only time will tell since jews control most of our nation.

  • 2 words: FAKE NAME.

    'nuff said.

  • @Ristar85 2 words: PHONE VERIFICATION

    'nuff said

  • @RunnerReign

u can CHOOSE not to verify.

  • @Ristar85 ahh i see that now, in early G+ you had no choice

  • It really does say a lot about Facebook that that is the philosophy of its staff

As though the world would really be so much better the more the world knows about your latest beer bash and videogame social grouping efforts

Here's a good example, I wear my atheism on a badge online, but what if I joined a secular activism organization on Facebook, and a prospective employer saw that?

Do you people want everyone to see your dirty laundry? How about you first, me second.

  • I appreciate that the two of you made the point about advertising being the root of all of these efforts to push people's identities out into the open

It's like making their library history available to the public....some things just shouldn't be out in the open, and one of those things is every subtle whim and inquiry that pops into your head as you punch into a search bar or click a hotlink. It's your deepest thoughts and inclinations exposed to full inquiry by public, some of which are malici

  • YES and fuck Google+ I'm not interested in all this push for social networking and confirmed logins

These morons do not realize what a mistake losing their anonymity on the internet is until 4chan spams their Facebook pages with pornography and orders 100 pizzas to their house they didn't ask for

Blizzard tried to force all of their forum posters to reveal their personal identities, so some hacktivists took some of their info on Facebook and trolled the fuck out of them to teach them a lesson

  • MrViTopol was shittin' bricks, during this segment...

  • @Y0UT00B3R1 No no.... He was shitting out qwerty and passed

    a asdfgh

  • @Y0UT00B3R1 I don't know what the Peys book is. btw, u have been traced through SORM. i'm gonna send u a present u g00nna love, nigga. PIES :-D

  • @Stevie68000 You're a Jew
