My main problem is this: In the raiding guilds i've been in, if i would miss a raid i would not be invited back to do anymore raids for a couple weeks, that sucks. And when i would have to join a pugged raid there are always ppl who join the same raid and then always leave when they got what they wanted screwing the other 9 or 24 ppl outta the lockout. I'm not saying everyone needs to change, thats just idiotic. and among other things too.

It's true, though. I've met a lot of friends through various guilds and while that might seem dorky, it's actually no different from meeting new friends at work, at school or at a bar somewhere.
@Qaoz ..but there are a few problems and in my eyes the biggest problem is distance i m from austria and most of the people i meet in wow are from germany there is nor real chance of such friendships becomming real-life friendships
but i have to admit that a guild could somehow feel like an second home even though there are many players you just use guilds to obtain loot and don t care about you or other guildmates.. i ve learned to dissociate myself from other players to kind of protect myself

I guess it depends on what you're looking for in a friendship. It's true, though. I've met a lot of friends through various guilds and while that might seem dorky, it's actually no different from meeting new friends at work, at school or at a bar somewhere.
The guild is like a second home.

@Qaoz ..but there are a few problems and in my eyes the biggest problem is distance i m from austria and most of the people i meet in wow are from germany there is nor real chance of such friendships becomming real-life friendships
but i have to admit that a guild could somehow feel like an second home even though there are many players you just use guilds to obtain loot and don t care about you or other guildmates.. i ve learned to dissociate myself from other players to kind of protect myself

@TheSieth I spend more time in the game than with my real-life friends, so actually my "virtual social life" is more active than my real-life social... life. Now, to outsiders that might seem a little nerdy and "get a life"-ish, but really, what's the difference between having a friend you talk to on the phone and one you type with in a game?
I have a lot of foreign friends, accumulated from folk schools and video games. I don't necessarily need to look them in the eyes while talking to them.

@Qaoz theres a big difference! gesture for example when youre just typing you always have some kind of distance to the person everybody is sitting at home protected by anonymity. its perfectly fine to have onlinefriends but they can't replace real life friendships

@TheSieth Gestures, true, though smilies were invented to make up for the lack of facial expressions in text. And the distance is pretty nifty sometimes. I guess it depends on what you're looking for in a friendship. Personally, I enjoy being able to log off and spend some time with myself, without worrying about one of my friends knocking on my door, or calling me on the phone.
It's a very casual and relaxed way to have friends.
I'm from Denmark. I'm guessing you're German?
