Very cool to use the oud for Andalusian Flamenco. That instrument is a great fit for that style. Love the use of percussive techniques to augment the string work. This illustrates the Moorish influence on Spanish music. Thanks for sharing!

Is it possible to find an oud in the US? I wish I could afford to travel, so I could buy one from someone who makes them by hand and makes his living that way. I'm sure everything in the U.S. comes off an assebly line, or we have to pay quite a bit at an instrument store, but the artists themselves get nothing.

Far away from Arab direct influence.

Moreover, this piece has nothing to do with real flamenco, neither the sound of the cords nor the rhythm. It has some distant resemblance...but the result is quite unhappy.

The guitar in Spain was not brought by the Arab invaders in the 8th century. In the ancient Roman times there were plenty of Chytarae, the real forebearer of modern guitars.

To Chromeguitar1: The origins of flamenco are a little more complicated.

There is obviuosly an Eastern influence in flamenco, but it comes essentially from the gypsy people that came to Spain in 15th century. Other sources of flamenco are Spanish traditional musics (here you can insert a little bit of west-arabic influence, not Kwaitian for sure), and the music and rhythms coming from the Americas. Flamenco as a genuine style of music is born around the 18th and 19th century.

Alp34, I have studied flamenco dance and music for 17 years. And yes I know the origing of flamenco and how oud was back incorporated to flamenco music in the time of history. Though oud has its influence on developent of guitar the father of guitar is NOT oud, it is sitar where also it gets its name. Anyways, my coment did not have anything to do with the origin of the music or the instruments. Oud should not be played like that.
