  • If GOD will want to sing one day, He will use Jussi's voice!

  • This is hands down the best performance of Nessun Dorma. I am certainly a novice when it comes to opera, but this Bjorling guy....he takes the cake. I can't listen to any other version anymore.

  • Simply stunning.

  • Well as Pavarotti himself said when he was compared to Jussi:"Please I´m only mortal"

  • I dont even like this kind of music, but this take my breathe away!!!

Swedish pride, whom the most has forgotten...

  • THE GREATEST TENOR OF ALL TIME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • ive never heard a better tenor than this genius awesome

  • fuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuu what a genius

  • no one can fuck with this guy. defo the greatest tenor. mindblowing stuff.

  • Don't know who's better him or Corelli?

  • Hands down best tenor ever

  • "as my computer gently weeps"...

  • when you listen to this masterpiece, the onnly word you can think of is flabergasted

  • Breathtaking

  • Awesome. Best voice ever!

  • Proud Swed!

  • Gracias por subir esta magnífica interpretación. Sencillamente, sin comparación la voz de este tenor..

  • Jussi Bjorling is a legend. There is no doubt. I also like Pavarotti. However, for me personally, the definitive version of this is Franco Correlli's live version. Not the Studio Version of Franco. It doesn't come through. Go here;

    watch?v=0ITvnV50x2U

    Or type;

FRANCO CORELLI "Nessun dorma! Nessun dorma...Tu pure, o Principessa" Oct.04.1960

Jussi Bjorling Oh Holy Night, though is breathtaking. So it all depends on the song sung.

  • @babystinky I listened to it. Corelli completely owns it; as in it almost seems like as if the song itself is singing to Corelli, not the other way around, if you get what I mean. But for me personally, my favorite is Bjorling's slow version recorded in 1944. watch?v=xT09SI0LAjg

  • They don't come like him anymore. Such overwhelming power, and not just vocally.. Although he died quite young, he was physically very strong. He used to amuse himself by going to the docks and armwrestling dock workers!

  • Det här den bästa "Nessun dorma" någonsin har sjungit nånsin.- This is the best ever Nessun dorma, !!!!

  • Man måste titta på dokument över hans liv, så vet man att han är den bästa tenor på 1900 - talet - och det visste han ocksån

  • en redig svensk karl !!!

  • Yes, he was outstanding.

  • as life isn t fair neither is God giving this voice to Jussi!!!

  • he s knocking them out in heaven!!!

  • If you can listen to this and not cry, you're not human.

  • I am torn between this version, and that of Pavarotti. They are both excellent. Paul Potts-who he?

  • my nipples went hard

  • he sounds like he really thought he'd win :P

  • Jussi Björling was not Callaf but he certainly "was" Nessun Dorma! He was the one who made this area famous in the end of the 30" and on. His live version from Stockholm 1944 is the bench mark for ND and still not bettered and as it looks, will never be! It´s not only the best ND ever sunged. it´s one of the greatest opera performances ever. It contains it all, empatihsm, a superior cadenza, unbroken flow - everything! Corelli and Monaco? Yes, great versions, but only next to Björling!

  • @Repulsion100 Jussi and other operasinger dont use microphone. They are real operasinger. Tahts a big differnce compared with for example Poul Potts.

  • @fimafengius Ever heard Mario Del Monaco's Nessun Dorma? Use your ears on something other than Bjorling to compare. And Pav's Nessun Dorma is not even top 10.

  • Comment removed

  • Please remove all other clips, and all patriotic commentary, and let the active opera singers and composers favorite add level. Please, for once. If not one of his competitors "Pavarotti", said Björling by far the best.

  • By far the sleepiest version of Nessun Dorma. Terrible interpretation, but then again Jussi had the ultimate technique but never had the big voice.

  • @crapfacejoe Jussi is the best tenor thats ever walked this earth. He sounded better 1937 on a crappy recording than they all do combined with the deluxe recording studio. Il give Pavarotti and Caruso the second and third best :). No big vioce, get real, he could split an atom and seduce Greta Garbo at the same time.

  • @kitanoz1 Split an atom by sitting on it, seducing Garbo, probably if he gets her drunk out of her mind, possible... But the best tenor, not with a weak voice like that. Caruso could eat him alive, Gigli would leave him in the dust... But I think you are right to put him in the same league as Pavarotti as they are both seriously overrated.

  • @crapfacejoe, Please remove all clips and patriotic comments and let the active opera singers and composers favorite add level. Please, for once - if not one of his competitors "Pavarotti", said Björling by far the best. I suppose that even Mussolini and Berlusconi sings better in your ears of crap?

  • @BOGSTEN Pavarotti is a technical tenor like Bjorling, so of course Jussi the most technically superior tenor would be his favorite. But they're voice lacked. There are probably seven other operatic tenors that I can name with a better natural voice.

  • @crapfacejoe, thank´s for dealing your opinion, but as I ment, youtube has occasionally become a garbage dump for the views of people without credentials. Fine, with those who do not want to broaden their views, by listening and evaluating new data. "Cogito, ergo sum - I question, therefore, I think, therefore I exist" René'Descartes. It is a big difference to feel and to think. Finally let Greta Garbo in peace.

  • @BOGSTEN How Descartes, Garbo in all her glory and the science of atoms entered this discussion is beyond me. Piece of advice, let your ears be the judge rather than turning this into a technical discussion. Leave that part to the composers... As an example, no one with a balanced mind can like this Nessun more than MDM's version. It can't even compare.

  • Ultimate version, no question about it! Love it!!!

  • Swedens golden treasure. We don`t have any "movers and shakers" today. By that, I mean artists that move people to tears, and TOUCH them. Jussi was like that. Who cares if these men strayed from the path..? They were human beings for good and bad, and should be remembered for the joy they brought to people`s lives. Not for any shortcomings. Merry christmas everyone!

  • Amazing of Jussi! Just amazing interpretation! Jussi is my favourite tenor but Pavarotti does an ear-blowing performance of Nessun dorma as well. And maybe this song suits Pavarotti better. But they could both compare themselves in heaven.

  • Best I think I have ever heard in my life.

  • Indeed!

  • This song can't be played in a playlist anymore. Such a shame :(

  • Simply amazing........

  • Puccini died without ever completing his opera or seeing it. Yet what way to leave this earth with this your final contribution and Bjorling singing it. The right voice for this aria. I also love other tenors and they have their own songs that they own too. Be fair.

  • Nessun dorma is my favorite opera song, it's beautiful and never gets old no matter how many times i hear it.

  • Comment removed

  • Nessun dorma! Nessun dorma!
  • It's like someone tore off my head and rolled it around heaven for a time.

  • Simply astonishing.

  • It's a miracle this thunder-voice didn't break Sweden off from Europe and send it floating away

  • this never fails to bring tears, it is so exquisite. i wish so many more could hear bjorling.

  • The Three Tenors had no choice but to team up, none of them could match this alone.

  • @tennesseelvr Bjorling in this particular recording was 48. There are recordings of a much younger Pavarotti of course. There is a 1980 recording when Pavarotti was only 45.

  • no reason to diss pavarotti he just isn t Bjorling!!!

  • The Greatest Tenor Ever!!!

  • The best ever thnx for posting

  • It is a bit ridiculous to compare a 33 year old man and a 63 year old man singing the same piece. Bjorling was 33 when he recorded this and Pavarotti's recording from 1998 makes him 63. Enjoy both for what they can do: both have that effortless sound and that lack of jaw tension on the high notes.

  • @journeymanmusician

love your answer I at least are thank-foul to you-tub where I have the mercy listning to thise Maistro's off Opera art I woudenth dear saying that one better then the other's

they just to fantastik to my ear's differenth but isenth that a mirakle to in

chrisatmas time sorry dyslektiv Swed-Anglo-Amerikan lingvestik

  • Just discovered this while doing an amateur study of "Nessun Dorma". So fantastically amazing!!! And, one must keep in mind that this was recorded well before autotune, pitch correction, etc. Essentially, this is him. His raw voice. His raw talent.

Absolutely breathless. Thank you for sharing. I shall now visit iTunes. ;)

  • Just the best. ever.

  • my computer cried

  • When Bjoerling passed away at such an early age I wept.

  • so lovely such a powerful voice. Peace on earth to all mankind.

  • What else can you say about the singing of Jussi Bjorling, other than "Perfection". I believe, as many do, that he is the greatest singer who ever lived.

  • Helt underbart!

  • WONDERFUL WONDERFUL WONDERFUL the greatest version i have heard what a voice this man has thanks for posting

  • I got so many goosebumps I'm gonna half to call the Ghostbusters.

  • Comment removed

  • Absolutely fantastic! It makes me shiver ... Thank you for uploading this! Best quality music!

  • Uno dei + grandi tenori del "900!!!!!Beatiful!!!!!

  • I love Pavarotti, but I'm in total awe of the greatest, the king of kings, the immortal Mr. Jussi Bjorling, and so was Pavarotti!

  • comparing singers is like comparing a orange with an apple...what have one, doesn`t have other...

  • Fantastic. No wonder the 25 music critics assembled by Classic CD magazine in 1999 ranked Björling the greatest singer of the 20th century. Pavarotti is good, but they gave him a #19 ranking. But whether to the astute listener or to the critic, Björling;s artistry combined more of the elements of great singing than any other, and he did it with a vocal quality that goes right to your soul.

  • une tres belle remasterisation et quelle grande voix

  • Thanks for posting this.

I grew up with this version...my dad was crazy about Björling. I do like various versions Pavarotti has floating around. I love the quality of his voice above all others. This said, I think Björling is performing this as part of the entire opera & not just one of many disconnected songs as might be heard during a "3 Tenors" performance. Singing a single song to sound nice is different than performing it in the context of the entire opera.

    This version is powerful.

  • Podrá alguien decir que no le gusta, con esa musicalidad, afinación, tecnica impecable, sentimiento y belleza vocal, solo uno que tenga oido de artillero.uff.

Can anyone say they do not like, with the musicality, intonation, impeccable technique, feeling and vocal beauty, but one who has heard of artillero.uff.

  • So unbelievably incredible. It's too bad that his VINCERO! knocks you over and stuns you to the point where you can't remember anything preceding it. ;) The only solution: play it again. And again. Ad infinitum. (Definitive ND, yes I agree)

  • Comment removed

  • holy fuck.........

  • STUNNING

  • This music just makes me want to get a brown labrador and call it Jussi.

  • He is simply the best there ever was.

  • OMG This is amazing!

  • E non c'è regola che si deve inviare in lingua inglese.

  • Incredible. Takes my breath every time I hear it. Corelli was my favorite until I hear this.

  • Jussi, våran kille, överlägsen!!!!!!

  • Oh my God! This voice! There were songs, but I have never heard singing until today.

  • Along time dude...word!

  • Being a music teacher myself, I recommend that you also listen to Beniamino Gigli's version. I personally consider it the best Nessun Dorma performance due to the cleanness and simplicity. No tricky transitions and no exagerated "up and down" notes. Worth a look :)

  • @kiy0z BG:s is very fine, up in the top! BUT the masterpice of Nessun Dorma is Jussi Björlings the so called "slow version" live from 1944. You´l find it here on UT. This is a masterpiece and not only the greatest version of ND, it´s also probably one of the very greatest opera performances ever! The Nessun Dorma Club ranks it as No.1 and music teachers use to say "this is a singing lesson ever heard before"!

  • A natural, they don't come along very often.

  • Look Pavarotti, Lanza & Bjorling are all great. End of

  • holy shit this is good O.O

  • Pava-whatti? This is JUSSI-ni's Nessun BJOR-ma!!! WOOHOO!

  • Yes, I like Bjorling the best for Nessun Dorma, but also like di Stefano, Gigli, and Domingo as well. And how about Bjorling and Tebaldi in O Soave Fanciulla...

  • i would like to add Josef Schmidt to the mix of great interpreters of the song, full of soul.

  • This guy makes Pavarotti, Lanza, and Bocelli sound like three boys , trying out for the Church Choir...

(and I like Pavarotti ,Lanza, and Bocelli very much)

  • Just one more thought to add to what I wrote below. Anyone who loves this aria, do yourself a favor and listen to Mario Lanza's version. Superb!

  • Incredible! Thanks for posting this version of Nessun Dorma. I would consider this the "BEST" performance of Nessun Dorma save one. Pavarotti's 1980 performance which can be found here on YouTube. Imagine a "Three Tenors" performance consisting of: Jussi Bjorling, Mario Del Monaco, and Beniamino Gigli.

  • Huh..who´s Pavaroti ?

  • @Hemulen40 was a man who could sing better than you...a master.

  • @TaishoKenpachi Well, I nevva said I can sing , did I , you illiterate , tone deaf jerk !

  • @Hemulen40 ascolta in silenzio idiota . Questa non è una competizione . Imbecille

  • @cristoforocolombo64 And who said it was a competition , you moronic idiot . Try and learn some English, okay ! Or else shut up !

  • @Hemulen40 Tu non hai buone maniere, tu sei un uomo miserabile.

  • @rsmothersjr Et vous , Monsieur ,etes un complète crétin ! / Y Usted, Senor, eres un idiota !/ P.S. I am NOT ´tu´ with you , do you inderstand ?

  • @Hemulen40: I will refer to you in any matter that I choose, douchebag, and I most certainly do not choose to afford you more respect than you have earned with your boorish behaviour and insulting attitude. Les seules choses que TU as gagnés sont dédain et mépris.

  • @rsmothersjr Try and leave yer mom´s basement ! Try and grow up , ok, shitheel ! Or if u want it in plain Latin :Ocrea stercata !/ Dis is da last time I´m engagin in a ´debate´ wid a cumplete moronic halfwit . BASTA !

  • @Hemulen40 Yeah. Not to speak of: who is Paul Potts?

  • @Hemulen40

Oh no one... Just another brilliant tenor that was however not brilliant enough to match Bjorling ;)

  • I stay with Pavaroti on this one guys.... but at the end it's really a silly discussion, all in all this stuff if beautiful and I bet both of them would be shaking their heads and calling us idiots for debating such a silly thing.

  • Gran Tenor, pionero de los primeros grandes maestros del bel canta junto al gran Caruso y Beniamino Gigli.

  • I'm getting a kick out of this this whole Jussi vs. Pavarotti debate. First, let's give it up for the man who wrote the song ... Puccini. It's Puccini who we should all eternally thank for this wonderful gift. This is a marvelous version of this song and so is Pavarottis. We are all entitled to our personal preference, but both men knock it out of the park IMO. In closing, I believe Puccini would be pleased with both singers :)

  • Pavarotti and Bjorling are the only people in my opinion that could've ever pull this off!

  • no way. listen to placido domingo

  • @liveyourlifexxo Just did -very fine but not one of the very best. Jussi = Nessun Dorma!

  • I read somewhere that this Guy's performance brought Adolph Hitler to tears.....

Ladies and Gentlemen, THAT'S A TENOR

  • @bkeay100

Well, I don't think that "to brought Adolph Hitler to tears" it's a pride. But I can understand each has the own criteria, even immoral. Anyway, I think Jussi would have deserved a better quote.

  • Beautiful ...! Bravo!

    FFD

  • I have recieved an e-mail from bkeay 100 saying that this recording is the best and "If i do not like this i am dead from the neck up". Looking at my comment of 2 months ago can someone please explain to me what he/she is on about.

  • @saxon954 Ignore it... Nothing to understand in a fool's words.

Sidenote : Listen to the slow version of 1944 of ND... That's the definitive ND ;) (By master Jussi of course)

  • I suggest listenning to the "Slow Version" recording of this (It's in here don't worry).... Even more impressive. In my book, THE Greatest opera performance ever.

  • Jussi Björling and Birgit Nilsson. why do the best sopranos ever lived come from sweden?

  • BTW top note in Nessum Dorma is a B4 not a High C ALL good tenors should be able to hit this note easily. Pavarotti and Blorling each hold it better and longer than anyone else.

  • I personally prefer Pavarotti's voice in this aria. This is all about personal preference BTW, at this level it can only be.

I would say that overall Blorling is better especcially if you prefer lots of squilo, however i prefer the depth of Pavarottis voice

  • This Guy makes Pavarotti and Mario Lanza sound like "mumbling idiots"

    WHAT A VOICE !!!!!!!

  • This is the Performance that all others will be measured by... sorry Pavoratti

    sorry Mario Lanza

This Guy is at the top

    INCOMPARABLE !!!!!!

  • I had the hair on my arms stood up like small spikes of shear JOY when I heard this - tho' Swedish I had of course heard of Jussi Björling, but never heard any of his performances in this good quality - REALLY good! More of this please! Thanks!

  • Negative comments on one of the greatest Tenors ever they should stick to Star Search . Total Fools and Idiots

  • i was introduced to jussi by my late father as a child,he knew a good tenor, thank you father

  • My Daddy used to play this and many others. He could be heard all over the neighborhood....singing along.

Such deliciousness is no longer performed.

For another of his Bjorling favorites...Please find Jussi with Robert Merrill performing The Pearlfishers Duet.

  • Calaf da leggenda, grazie Jussi sei IL MITO :::)))

  • There is no better recording. He was the great interpreter of Puccini.

  • "We rock so hard! We did it!"

    "Wh-Who are you?"

    "We're THE DOLLARS!"

    "Dollars?"

    "And don't you forget it!"

  • Just listened to ML:s 1948 version. Just fine, but everyone knows that Björling = Nessun dorma! He was the one who made this aria famous in the 30th and 40th!

His live version from Stockholm concert hall 1944, also called "the slow version" is unparalleled and will so be for ever. The Nessun dorma club ranked it as No.1 among appr. 200 versions, followed by FC and MDM. You find it here on YT.

  • Saxon954 & johnirvingbenson; Sacrilege! Everyone knows that Mario Lanza's version from his 1948 concert at the Hollywood Bowl is the definitive interpretation. Actually I gave this a listen and it is quite remarkable.

  • My dad introduced me to Jussi when I was a child 50 years ago, he was so moving in this and my father lives on in me because of his love of this music. I still have it on LP.

  • Wow, got chills at the finale. Amazing

  • It's evident that he grasped the whole meaning of this aria, and with impeccable singing delivers the proper (in my opinion) emotions in almost every phrase... which Paul Potts did not. Not even close.

Can't even say I agree with Pavarotti's take on it. He sounds way too cocky for me.

  • ill still be listening to this in 2051.

  • Sublime...pura e simplesmente

  • oh man I'm getting chills through the whole aria! which I point out because I was all for Pavarotti's Nessun Dorma, but I never got these chills with him...

  • Mr. ricks.... I think I might be older than you but Have you ever heard Mario Lanza, if it was not for the movies business he would of been better.....I love people who use this forum as adults, with out the language and harsh attidues...........

  • Triple crown of Nessun Dorma....1) Jussi Bjorling..2) Pavarotti...3) Mario Lanza

  • @571641948 of the recordings I've heard I'd put Placido Domingo at #2 and move Pavarotti to #3. But Bjoerling rules, I agree. :-)

  • marvelus !!!!!!!

  • wow.

  • Bjorling is magnifiscent in this performance. I tend to think that if he were in his prime today, Pavarotti would be a somewhat distant second place popular tenor. Wonderous that 29 people rate this performance a thumbs down...

  • May I ask which year is this recording?

Me encanta

  • Saxon< i totally agree with you! Hearing problems! but have you seen the numbers now! What a splendid voice. So sweet and powerful.

  • Simply wonderful.

  • Jussi, you are murdering me--- but how do I pronounce your name as I die?

  • He is among the greatest singers of all time-Thanks!

  • This guy even made Adolf Hitler cry when he sang in Germany

  • Thank you saxon954. I'm in total agreement. This is the Definitive ND. Jussi captures and holds the character, the nobility, the sadness of the song and the part from the first note to the last, something that he did with such ease that people do not realize what a consummate vocal actor he really was. Bravo. And Thanks. jib

  • @johnirvingbenson - I agree, this man's rendering is beyond compare and his voice was the most magical instrument of musical interpretation that I have ever heard in my lifetime, may he rest in peace.

  • @petropavlovsk18 Thank you Petropavlovsk, your words caught up to me on a trip. There is nothing quite like JB's ability to INfuse a song, like ND, with his heart, and with such feeling that you don't know he is acting. A doctor I talked to had heard him a number of times live in several venues; he described his voice as having KERN, a kind of velvety edge, in the room, that I think you detect in some recordings. All the best. As we say: Let Light Perpetual Shine upon him; lux perpetua John

  • Cuando lo vedo, sto guardando negli occhi di Dio proprio.

  • "The flame that burns Twice as bright burns half as long."

    — Lao Tzu (Tao Te Ching)

  • Maybe the best singer the world ever produced too Taurexor.

  • A true star, best singer Sweden ever had!

  • sigh... just magnificent. Such clarity, such strength, such ease.

  • I have never even heard of Jussi until i seen Potts sing this song.Once you hear him sing this song you have to realize his greatness. He is the KING!

  • Paul Potts is a great singer, but when you compare him with Jussi Björling, Jussi is the greatest singer ever, even better than Caruso!

  • Holy shit. That was pure beauty.

  • Wonderful, marvelous! I think he was maybe better than Pavarotti even.

  • It is dripping with sex. No other tenor can do this!!

  • My personal favorite version.

  • best version iv herd so far WOW
