  • I have one ,It seems to slow down and has to be reset every few days .This is a common problemwith this model.I'll stick with ZyXel

  • I had a hard time figuring out what the differences was between the DIR-855 and the DGL-4500. If i'm not mistaken the DGL-4500 and DIR-855 are damn near the same except for the 4500 does not do dual band (2.4GHz / 5GHz) at the same time. Also the 855 does cost a lot more then the 4500 so i'm happy i bought the DIR-855. Also @CappinMuslims if u're so dumb setting up your wifi you shouldn't spend time cappin anyone and educate yourself instead. I should smack you upside ur head with a router. :S

  • If I setup a bridge connection from one wired router to the wireless router will I have to setup both router configurations or just through my wireless router?. Anyonw know please, I am receiving the router today and I am clueless with wireless hook up. Anything important to know about the DGL 4500 before I hook it up?. Please help me out, I will deeply appreciate the help, I am dumb when it comes to wireless setup

  • @CappinMuslims,

I'm not really sure why you would want two routers in the same home network. If you want to use the second router simply as an access point bridged on one of its LAN ports, then you want to turn off DHCP on the second router. If you want to connect the second router through it's WAN port, then wireless clients will not be able to resolve hostnames of systems on the first LAN. (Though you can still access them through their IP addresses.) -- More Info please..

    Fr. Robert

  • any router can game with 10/100 ports with no lag

  • @JayzBeerz,

Can you game? Sure... but all of my gear is Gig-E and I don't see any reason to cripple it with a 10/100 switch. Sure you could hook your 10/100 router to a 10/100/1000 switch, but then you have an extra piece of equipment that can't do integrated QoS. It's better to get a single device that can do line speed AND give you the feature set to guarantee that you network applications get the bandwidth you need.

  • @gadgettts Sending you a message to long to write here

  • Hey, What router would you recommend for a 50M fibre connection. the modem that comes with the connection has a Gigabit Ethernet interface.

  • @taydan04,

I'm a big fan of the Netgear WNDR3700.

    .

    Peace,

    Fr. Robert

  • @gadgettts Thank you vry much for the suggestion. I will give it a look.

  • Ha Ha fried chicken. Love ya.

  • This was the first video I saw from Gadget. I will definitely check out Gadget for information on electronics I'm interested in buying.

  • hybridsoldier300,

Thanks for the kind comment! I hope you stop by often. We've always got a few things on the burner.

  • Fr. Robert.

iv heard that firmware for this product above 1.15 makes this router ... a bit buggie.

have you had any issues with the firmware above 1.15?

  • hellsingorg2,

Unfortunately we no longer have the review unit, so I am unable to test new firmwares.

    .

    Peace,

    Fr. Robert

  • boo dont go thru walls T.T

  • Don't for get to update the firmware 1.21n. And the USB port can now be use for USB Harddrive, and USB printers. I love this router.

  • I'm having trouble on deciding between this router and the Belkin N1 vision.

  • Good review. I laughed at 9:27

  • Fr. Robert can you help me?

I am trying to connect this to my Xbox 360 and it keeps giving me a DNS error. Along with that it wont connect to my computer.

  • Your so fucking stupid...

  • routerdlink-com

  • k i have a wii and i pod touch i want to connect to the internet. but i already have a quest dsl modem model#GT701 im clueless i need good, fast wifi in my house so please help.

  • I have the old version of this, work perfectly, i have an N network router which i will use an access point for my N devices. This one was a bit out of my price range. BTW are you pinoy?

  • Filipino Ako!

  • na nga ba eh! XD

  • which was one is better linksys gaming router or d-link gaming router?

  • Badassedwin,

    I prefer the D-Link product.

  • ok, but does the d-link router have a lot of range?

  • BadAssEdwin,

Yes... one of the secrets that most vendors don't want you to know is that they use the same wireless radios. The only real difference are the support components, especially the antennas. Once you get above the "generic crap", and you've seen that stuff on the bargain shelf, most of the higher end gear will perform better if you get even a modestly improved antenna.

    .

    Peace,

    Fr. Robert

  • thanks dude!

you know where i could get it for the cheapest price?

  • BadAssEdwin,

I generally start with Pricegrabber(com) and then try Amazon. One of them is almost guaranteed to have the lowest price.

    .

    Peace,

    Fr. Robert

  • ok. Do you happen to have one but not using it ?

  • BadAssEdwin,

If I had one, I would most definitely be using it! :)

    .

    Peace,

    Fr. Robert

  • I loved ur review very well said and researched.

  • Thanks NBeruzzi!

    The sentiment is much appreciated.

  • yo how much is it

  • I love your review of this router I have it and works great :) you said it all, and is also fare simple to use, you forgot to say that, it already has game info of the ports for some games so no need to set up ports just click on the game :) such as World of warcraft, Xbox live and more !

  • Thanks noxturno! :)

  • hey gadgettts,

Can we use usb cable to connect the router to the modem? because my DSL is connected to the PC via usb cable not ethernet.

  • No.. It's Ethernet only.

  • how fast does this speed go 2

  • That would depend on a few things... 1) How fast is your Internet connection? 2) How fast are your wired and wireless clients?

The router itself supports gigabit Ethernet, so that really isn't a problem. It also supports 802.11a/b/g so wireless devices shouldn't have a problem connected, but your question can't be answered unless you specify WHAT you want to be speedier and what your current bottlenecks might be.

  • Absolutely. You can adjust both the A and B/G channels in the User Interface.

  • umm does it have adjustable channel cuz i wanna play online wii lol its fun dont blame me but i cant because it needs to be 1/11 channel and its not :(

  • great review! and peace be with you father

  • And peace be with you too! :)

  • I really want to thank you for the great job your doing in reviewing these pieces of technology. Your reviews are fairly done and present both the pros and cons of the hardware. Keep doing a great job!

  • Thanks malerich3!

  • hey father..you rock thanks for these good reviews..ur the coolest father on earth for sure.peace father

  • Thanks for the support... ya'lls making me blush! :)

  • Hey gadgetts ignore pwnagizer1 he's an uptight a**hole with his facts wrong. I also had a question: Is the DGL-4500 much different than the DIR-855? The DIR-855 appears to be the same, but white colored and cheaper. Also does the DIR-855 have Gamefuel or is that only for the DGL series? thanks

  • GangstaGangsta,

Sorry I didn't get back to you sooner. My bad.

Gamefuel is essentiall QoS (Quality of Service) so it's included on ALL of D-Link's current routers. It just might be a little more complicated to set it up on the DIR series. Other than that... looking at the specs, they ARE essentially the same product.

  • Thanks for the review it was very helpfull later have a nice day ;)

  • Perhaps you should look up the definition of irony... because what you describe isn't ironic... at best, it's pathetic (not you... the facts.)

One more thing... are you going to go though ALL my vids and post these little vignettes of knowledge? -- Because you can save time by just posting once on my channel page. Peace, Fr. Robert

  • Do you think this would be my best bet for wireless gaming on the Xbox 360 since i use a WiFi adapter at quite a range with my buffalo but my buffalo attena is broken so it can't handle Youtube and live at the same time and i want a damn new gaming router.

  • The wireless is pretty good on this unit, but as for it being your best bet... it's hard to say without seeing your setup and the environment that it's in. --- It would probably handle your problem with YouTube and live because the QoS can be set to prioritize your traffic: in other words, since Live traffic is much more sensitive to lag that YouTube, it would make sure that the Live traffic was given top priority.

  • Ill buy it ... Thx alot :-)

  • Thanks for the good review. Nice work!

  • ja this is funny, religious people taking about technology? technology is the science child, i tough religion don't believe in science, specially Christians, this is kind of weird, remember creationism? the host should to says something like " and at the seven day god create DLINK out of the sand", religion always attack reason and logic, and the pursuit of true, but they use routers, computers, etc thats is a complete paradox. is just pick and choice which "god" bible rules to follow.

  • I believe in ALLAH!

  • I have been reviewing routers on the internet for 3 days now and I can't make my mind up. I read many reviews and looked at amazon reviews, and all of them looked like Dlink routers are shit (this router don't have any negative comments yet though). THe best reliable router that everyone likes is the Linksys WRT54GS & WRT54GL, but I am fed up with this SMC piece of crap. Should I really trust ur review and buy this? and wat adapter should i buy for my desktop PC to work with this?

  • GanjaMia, I too like the Linksys WRT54X series of routers, but only because I can hack them up with OSS. There is a major difference between those units and the DGL-4500 in that the D-Link product is Gigabit, supports 802.11a/b/g/n (the WRT54G series is b/g), is MIMO, and has the status screen. I've had this router in production for a month now and we've had no trouble.

Still, if you don't need GigE or 802.11a/n, then the Linksys are pretty much bulletproof.

  • who said DLINK shit ?

I have one for 3 years no problems working 24/7

  • i've just subscribed to your videos recently, and so far - nice work. ;) kudos.

as for me, i don't see a huge need for Gb routers. mainly just because i don't use my internet too much for gaming. though if i did, i do believe that this would be the router i would get.

  • im still using my 3 year old router or 5 idk but it works great a love d-link

  • tight

  • wow, now D-link is Pwning linksys.

  • i laughed at the fried chicken comment. great review. :)

  • ahh thats better, it makes more sence with sound,

  • definitely ;-)

  • Yeah... it's funny how sound can sometimes be important! :)

Seriously though... thanks for catching that. I was just about to get to bed when I saw the comments. It just takes so long to render on my current setup... I guess I've been getting sloppy. Peace, Fr. Robert

  • I really enjoy your videos, BUT i gotta say i could do without the 1+ minute intro in every video, could be shorter if you ask me. But yeah keep up the good work.

  • Hey Jaded, I've been thinking about doing something with our overly long intro... I just haven't been able to put anything together that works for us... still, I think you're right. It's too long.

  • 8+gig and a ethernet cord from the xbox to my modem, i never lag much.....inless the host is running a less strong conet. i heard sum good stuff about this router i might try it out..good show....god bless
