@spiderskater3 Boxers are physically strong and powerful with a great amount of stamina. Plus, he was fighting a style that he really wasn't familiar with.

Trust me, you're at a real disadvantage when you don't understand the style you're fighting. On top of that, the boxer was a weight class above him.

@sickness324 To be honest, the boxer didn't really know the chinese martial arts styles either. It was when they put the restriction of no kicking on ip man that he became greatly disadvantaged. Though he was already in a tight spot before that. I also agree with you that a boxer isn't below a martial artist. Boxers are just stereotyped as idiots throwing their arms out while martial artists get special effects in movies.

@bibliotheek357 I agree somewhat, but the boxer had more experience with chinese martial arts than Ip Man did with boxing. The Boxer fought Hung Sifu earlier in the movie and the fight Hung had with Ip proved that, although sick, Hung was no pushover. In fact, I'm still convinced if Hung had not been asthmatic, he probably would've won that fight.

He did fight a kung fu master that worked for the Japanese army hired by a general, however the authenticity of this claim is difficult to verify. It's from a testimony given by Lo man Kam, whom is the nephew of Yip Man.
