I went to Eire once. It rained non-stop and was freezing cold. I didn't understand a word anyone said and everyone wore green. The only thing to drink was Guinness and everyone was drunk. This is a great song from the Wexford rebellion. This is not an IRA song or a Terrorist sog, this is a song written and dedicated to the men that fought for freedom in 1798. The 1798 rebellion was just , Wexford was raped by the British completely taken apart, it's farmers were brutalised, but know this the men of the British Army that fought, raped and pillaged in Wexford in 1798 were the North Cork Militia. Men from Cork, Irish cathilics in the service of the British Army.

Seriously long story. Sometimes they were on the same side, sometimes not. Religion, loyalties and interests divided them at points.
The history is pretty complicated and for it to have culminated in such terrible events and horrendous loss of life is tragic.
Yet, this is an incredibly stirring version, makes you want to take to the fight no matter the odds.

This song relates to the Rebellion of 1798and the lyrics were written by J. K. Casey (1846 - 1870) a Fenian from Mullingar.
It had nothing to do with the Easter Rising in Dublin.
