We have rights so long as we've got the power to assert them.
Ideally, yes I would like to think that we are genetically programmed with a sense of empathy and justice. However, supposedly 4% of the world's population has no conscience.
I would say that it's incumbent upon us to uphold these ideals for society suffers greatly when they're abandoned.
Do a search for Ross Kemp and Kingston Jamaica to see documented evidence of what happens when a society's morals become entirely subjective.
The rise of Atheism is a bid to relieve humans of their 'God-given rights' and to get them to subscribe to the idea that they are not only an evolutionary mistake, but also a 'problem' to be dealt with. If there is no God and humans are just flesh machines, then no rights are possible. They can be employed or disposed of in any way that more powerful humans see fit. If there is a God and we have the spark of God within us, then humans must have rights. Ideas are made popular for a reason.
Still with ya,,,about rights,,,now,,,,ugly people,,do they have the right to be in public without a visa or passport?,,Look at the dead mother Teresa,,,was she ever asked for her visa to show her right to be in public scaring half the world to death. She was a terrorist with a tea towel on her head, not to mention the dreaded Whoopi G.Who gave the aforementioned the right to scare people.
Just so you know I'm eating lunch right now with a side of Foot ... You do bring up some thought provoking ideas. Just as you can't judge a book by it's cover, you mustn't judge a person from one video! Keep posting and I'll keep listening lol
Yes all human's born of this world have right's those are taken away or enforced depending on where you live.
This is why america is a constitutional republic and not a democracy. I imagine long ago people felt restricted so they wrote these rights down on paper.
Individuals have rights, but an individual's right is not a right if it hurts others. Also, rights that have no recourse to defend them in the law... are not rights, e.g., a right to competitively bid on public property is not a right. Why? Because if you are denied a right to bid then you cannot prove that you would have won. That happened to me.
Hi! I am glad someone liked it. If you are a nice person you may embed it now. If your site is focussed on being evil then I will revoke embedding privileges. ;)
You pose a very interesting question. Although my own personal religious belief causes me to think that rights are granted by God, I also must acknowledge that others do not share my faith perspective and thus would answer the question of whence they came differently. At the same time there are also rights which are constructs of soceity.
There is one right, to chose, which flows from God's first decision after he made us.
This could be as simple as chosing what to eat (which, of course could have dire consequences, especially longterm), or as complex as chosing what to put your faith into for your life.
Of course, our choice can provide either good or bad consequences. We have to deal with them, and hopefully use them to make good choices next time.
But what about saying a+b=c, or even 2+2=89? Do we have th right to believe statements that can't be proven/understood, or even to believe that which is considered false? Maybe I misunderstood your meaning. I filled all my tapes with vids of my kids, and yesterday finally got new tapes, so I can post again soon.
Aren't you a straight white male human? Maybe if that becomes more scarce you'll have a chance for some civil action... or you could go ahead and start rioting.
Lastly you said 'Where did human rights come from?' In my opinion rights are something made up by the government to limit what we can do. E.g. We do not have the right to shoot or kill someone. In the begining of time when there were no governments there were no rights. So a human could do anything he/she pleased. So rights came from governments, and many people think that rights allow us to do anything but really they limit us.
Wow Michael, thanks for sharing all those ideas! :) I think you and I have VERY different ideas/perceptions on the topic, which is why your comments are so interesting to me. I do looove George Orwell, so we have that in common.
This is a very complicated question you posed, but in truth every human has rights of there own and the mind to choose whether to follow those rights or create new rights for themselves. A book that shows what earth would be like if the majority of our rights we have today were taken away from us and we were fed propaganda to believe that we were making our own decisions and were free people but in truth we weren't is 1984. I recommend everyone to read it.
Of course humans have rights, every human has rights. In Canada, the US and other democratic countries, humans have the right to vote, marry, voice their political opinions etc. In other countries with other religions and/or government beliefs such as Saudi Arabia, where the person doesn't have the right to vote for their leader (because Saudi Arabia is a monarchy) and the woman doesn't have the right to show here face in public (because its an Islamic country).
We are all so concerened with what rights we deserve.
Womens rights, Gay rights, ethnic minority rights and so on. What rights do I HAVE in the world ???
They say "with rights come responsibilities" - Instead of asking myself what rights do I have in this world, perhaps I should ask what resposibilities do I have in this world.
I'll make a video answering my own questions, and in it will be included the issue of Rights versus Responsibilities. I do not believe that either of them can exist independent of the other. When we talk about one we are definitely talking about the other. So however you ask yourself, whether about Rights or Responsibilities, the answers will be entwined. Thanks for making this correlation explicit.

I like ugliness. And love Mother Teresa! I don't think Rights have to do with preferences, though. You're funny. :)

But the only true rights one has,
Are the one's your willing to fight and die for.

Actually... I don't understand what you meant.

This was a good video, I'd like to say that each one of us humans are a master and slave of our own life.
Rights exist in those that have power. I mainly pity the less fortunate, because they don't have as much rights as a free citizen does.

It sounds like you and I agree on some of this! In my other video I share a little about what I think the answers are.

Freedom is the Freedom to say 2+2=4. If that's granted, all else follows (-:
