On Monday Jan, 23, 2012 Jonathon Burr of TN Department of Environment and Conservation took the following actions about the leaker, "I forwarded your message to our field inspectors immediately upon opening it Monday morning. They were able to respond Monday almost immediately, and found a pinhole leak in a seal. They contacted Atlas, who responded with a crew to fix the seal that afternoon." The state has forced Atlas to fix previous issues on Vowell Mtn like erosion and leakers. Thanks TDEC!
Thank you for the info about static electricity. I will research about safe static discharges and safe distances away from leaking gas wells for this to happen. If you have static safety info please post here. It seems like the state regulators might have said something about this issue since this is the third leaking gas well I have found by Atlas Energy on Vowell Mountain. That would suck to get roasted to death while busting a natural gas company for a leaker. Thanks again, matt landon
U r so dumb ,y would u stand right at the leak ,and yes static electricity could have ignited it,also u are on private land ignorance of the law is no excuse, signs don't have to be posted u are on a utility easment and ,yes that tech is an idiot as well ,point blank u both look dumb here
A subsidiary of Southwestern Energy Co. recently bought 5 acres in Quitman, AR., where last year a water well started spewing millions of cubic feet of natural gas and is the subject of a lawsuit in federal court.

I would have been tempted to put a match to the leak then go to the nearest public phone and report a fire. ;o)
