Having one's self as the authority is looked to as being adult. But the 8 looks to himself as authority precisely because he is afraid of everyone destroying him; that is why he only looks to himself. To me, that is not authority- that is fear. Of course, if you are talking healthy 8, then you can say that all people hold their own authority when they are healthy.
So there's this game called "9 hours, 9 persons, 9 doors." The creator said he based the characters off the enneagrams, since he was going with the theme of "9" anyway. He also said which one fits which number.
I am amused that my favorite character is "the cool kid."
Adult in terms of developmental psychology is when we focus on protecting others, not just seeking protection from others. And yes, children have a type. The key to understand 8, is they are protective of something. Many different types that are behaving badly get mistyped as 8s. As to censure, Gurdjieff did not teach 9 types, this material is entirely original work. My type is 4, not 6.
Just unsure about the concept that one type is 'behind' or 'ahead' another developmeentally. To me, the Enneagram has been incredibly helpful in seeing patterns in people as being just that - patterns, and that those need to be respected and accepted as opposed to be judged.
Otherwise, the explanations really put the Enneagram into context, thank you!!

I'm definitely a type 6, however I'm not necessarily a "go with the herd" person. I like being a non-conformist and being outside of the group.
