I was curious and went to wikipedia and typed in ABC logos and found an earlier logo, it shows a camera with the ABC logo going down the camera with the letters tv on the side. I don't think it was ever used thou.
Just for the fun of it, I drew this logo with Mickey Mouse in it to indicate Disney's acquisition of the network. Disneyland premiered on ABC in the fall of 1954, and the next year, Disney brought The Mickey Mouse Club to the network. As a kid of 5 and 6, I wouldn't have missed Mickey Mouse for the world.
Would love to see the return of this logo for their 60th anniversary in 2013. Perhaps they could re-create the eagle logo with their current circle logo inside. It would somewhat connect ABC's past and present.
...or maybe have the eagle perched upon a 16:9- aspect screen (as found on today's HDTV receivers) in place of the circle, and have the short-case letters inside the screen.
"Dateline Disneyland" was the Grand Opening of Disneyland broadcast live on ABC on July 17, 1955. So, this was originaly shown on ABC on July 10, 1955, a week before Disneyland opened!
Agree. The network will have it's 60th 'anniversary' in 2013, since the network considers it's launch date to be 1953, even though it's first broadcasts were in 1948.
Actually, that would be their first TV broadcasts. In radio, they were around under that name since 1945 or so, and before that they had been the Blue Network which, prior to the early 1940's, was a sister of NBC.
@BadNews88 I agree, just as long as they leave it like this and don't tweak it so that it does something, like fly out at you like the Paramount Pictures Television "Closet Killer" logo.
Also, this had come from a broadcast of "Super Circus", which as it states on it's closing ident{Before switching to the ABC TV logo} was filmed in Chicago. Kelloggs{For Corn Flakes}, and Mars candy bars had sponsered this series....
add another lightning bolt and you have a nazi SS emblem lol
