  • your tools are so simple. thank you! i've learned alot! ;)

  • geo gg bawa g cha gay ho

  • dude, you did a great job........your so chill. Move to California, the weather is always nice!

  • the music is very bad, but the rest is interesting

  • you should've put a flash showing the internal rims of the tunnel, it would've been even more artistic.

  • weldone

  • could I ask why you favour to shoot from a farther distance with the 70-300mm lense? I have a 70-200mm but I don't think I quite understand it's main purpose.

  • Puts the background out of focus.

  • Is there a name for this style or discipline of making the backgrounds appear very dark and subjects in high contrast, while in daylight/shade/overcast where ambient light is still quite high? could someone direct me to any tutorials for these results?

  • im pretty sure its on the same concept as "strobing" theres all kinds of info on that

  • I believe people refer to it as "Overpowering the sun".

  • i could be wrong but i think its bokeh (bo-kuh)

  • That blonde guy is scary. Good video

  • i love the BG music

  • Excellent learning experience!!

Bert, If you need a new background soundtrack for your movies i can create something for you. just let me know.

    Yes that's a hint...:)

  • very interesting. You know exactly how to work with the light around you, very impressive. Keep up with other videos

  • all i can say this guy is too much...hahah.. I like all your work bert!!!

  • I have a new hero....his name is Bert

  • great work. Thank you for sharing

  • Thanks for sharing, was really interesting.

I use the same lens for portraits and i'm building up a similar lighting scheme, with 2 speedlights, just not sure if going with Canon IR transmitter or radio, like PocketWizard. Thanks again for sharing :)

  • What camera did you have there? : )

  • why 70-200 for portrait? well it gives you first of all distortion... so you don't have the distracting background second you have focal length this will give you face shot, half body shot and full body shot.

Most important of all you're a little bit away from model so they feel more comfortable.

That's why 70-200 is the best choice for portrait! It give also sharp pictures.

  • Plus the telephoto is used for different reasons than the 50mm. A 50 can give you the sharpest portraits with the best bokeh, but you do have to get ridiculously close. it also gives absolutely no pincushion distortion, while even the most professional of lenses may still give a little.

  • Yeah.

:) 85L 1.2 is great if you want to use this kind of lens hehe. But you still have to move back and forth.

  • Why did you use the 70-200 while you had the 50mm with you?

  • i dont know photghohaers intentions to use 70 200 over there instead of 50mm but if i were him i would have done the same. Why ? coz..

    1) build quality :- 70 200 is the epitome of pro lens with best sharp results. 501.4/1.8 cost not more then £100 but 70 200 costs £1100.. so the quality may be the first reason.

  • interesting fact that most people don't know is that 50mm 1.4 &1.8 are pforessional lens, not consumer lens, even though they don't cost that much

  • the 70-200mm is a great focal-length!

  • each photographer had different style of shooting and/or the equipment you used, or what you call format! i used canon 70-200 IS too and i love the result for my client headshot.

  • just wondering are you shooting Manual mode ?

  • what is that grip you're using for the tunnel shoots? That looks handy.

  • Good work, you know good your stuff!

  • Oh wow, I was trying to figure out who he reminded me of! He does remind me of Iggy Pop!

  • bit obvious really since he says that half way through

  • Bert - these are a terrific series. Keep 'em coming!

  • Thank you - Very informative.

  • very good, very instructive your videos, I learn a lot¡¡¡

  • I enjoying all of your videos but I hope you can dive more into a few other subject matters in future episodes:

    * How you got started in the industry

    * The business of photography

    * Your techniques on relaxing the model and getting the expressions you want

    * What your train of thought process is like when approached with an assignment.

I'm an aspiring photographer and I would find advice on these soft skills to be more important.

  • i like it.thanks.

  • youre are awesome. What kind of flash and its accessories are you using?

  • Awe inspiring work, thanks for sharing

    Debbi

  • Enjoying the series immensely. Keep up the good work!

  • Hi nate.

Thanks a lot for the video and the good info.

Would you mind letting me know how you're controlling the flashes? Are you using remotely controled TTL or do you arbitrarily set the flashes power and use

a light meter to set the aperture on the camera?

  • Great to see you back, Bert! The photos you get with such a minimalistic setup are absolutely amazing. (Of course, I say "minimalistic," but PWs themselves are hardly minimalistic in price!)

Was wondering if you could perhaps do a video sometime on mixing the light of the small flashes with that of your studio lights? I recently saw some photos where you did that - studio shots, I think the model's name was Sarah - and they look incredible.

    All the best for 2008!

  • the best lighting setups are always the simple ones.

  • that music is becoming a part of my psyche. Cool video, always interesting

  • Great video. Thanks for the lesson.

  • awesome! Dirk doesn't like smiling too often does he? :)

  • great video! very nice pictures!

What aparture You used and ISO speed?

  • Erg leuke video weer!

  • Very great information video.
