I was reading recently about how this apartment complex in Portland, OR was infected with bed bugs. The article stated that the US actually eliminated bed bugs (which aren't native) through the use of DDT. Now it's back, and many of the students who live there are getting sick and suffering from the bedbugs, having to go to the doctor.

He has a good point about imperialism. I was shocked to find out that the rationale for imperialism in Africa was an altruistic one: the abolition of slavery. We have to rule them to free them.

He is also right on about the "golden age that never existed." I found this out the hard way by studying history. I discovered that we are actually better off environmentally than we ever were in the past. People don't believe me on that.
