joh2, you are right, Chrysler upon recovering,slowly though,from a financial death circa 1979-80, enlisted Mitsubishi MMC to produce cars for the brand so it could re brand them as dodge, Plymouth, Chrysler models or vice versa. That and U.S. based assembly was mainly for the purpose to avoid hefty tariffs on certain foreign goods (including those from Japan)
the 1976-1980 Mitsubishi Galant was assembled in
Okazaki, Aichi
