I remember reading an interview with Stills where he said Clapton was just warming up, and they said, "no, that's a take." Stills said listening to EC was the reason he decided not to go completely back to his blues roots, as he couldn't do it like EC did. Thank goodness for us, because we got all of that great Manassas stuff as a result.
Believe this was recorded in 1971. Think about it-in a 12 month span we had Harrison's All Things Must Pass, Clapton's Layla, The Allman Bros Live at the Fillmore, Exile on Main Street from the Stones,Led Zepplin III, this from Stills and Pink Floyd's Dark Side of the Moon followed in 1973. What a time it was!!
One also has to wonder how Rock History woulda been changed if Stills hadn't been turned down to join The Monkees because of his bad tooth. Peter Tork, his buddy at the time urged him to go down and test for the last part and he didn't get it but Tork did.
@clayopalstar ....I'm so sorry!!! I was talking on the phone while I was thanking you and I typed what I was saying to the other party here..... no Kiddin!... Thanks so much for this dynamite post, ... Sincerely, Danny Carroll Sunset Beach, CA 90742
Sweeeeeeet, thanks for sharing ...got to be one of the best Rock tunes of all time if not the BEST outright...btw...Anybody got a cut of "I've Got Nothing [to do but today]"...
A classic. Beautiful playing from Stills and Clapton. But the unrecognised hero here is Dallas Taylor on drums. He was under aprreciated. Just listen to how he synchs with the guitarists.
... I checked for this 6- 8 mo's ago and nada... man for this to not be on youtube blew me away..... I'm one happy camper, now thanks so much for the post of one of the finest, 'words, guitars, bass and drums (and heavy hitting) R & R songs of all time...-:)
When I first heard this, I had some Nam weed I brought back with me. Clapton's rip was the best I'd ever heard; enhanced by MamaSan's Primo.....WHEW! Play this so loud that your speakers blow out candles on the other side of the room.
This is one of my all time favorite songs by Stills and he and Clapton were absolutely awesome on this track. This has to be played very loud! Unreal!
Easily, the greatest :rhtythm "track ever layed down. Absurdly btilliant. Way better than the lead. Nd Jimi does not play wah berrer. Clapton rips it up, but it's the rhythm that serioualy makes this stunning. Sti;;s pllays acconpanistm blows Clapton out of the water/
I've not heard a hotter collaboration of two guitarists (Stills/Clapton) ever. This number is a landmark in classic rock guitar history. When he has a master like Stills behind him, Clapton shines.
Greatest rhtyhym guitar ever played. When Stills kicks it into double time, Clapton goes berserk.
