@LaurenNP36 I think that's only the case with Syrian hamsters. This is a dwarf hamster and I believe the male is alright to stay in with the mother and babies. I'd make double sure before doing it, though, I might be remembering wrong.

I used to breed hamsters. I wouldn't suggest messing with them right after birth, but you can handle them the next day, no problem. Also they used the spoon to roll the baby onto it's tummy. It was turtling.

@polymerclaycreatable The only thing thats wrong with petstore animals is that by buying them you are supporting puppy mills and kitten mills, places that are horrible and sell to pet stores - if people keep buying them, they will keep horrificly breeding them.

@MrAyrehead09 but i didnt breed my hamster and i never new i bought a hamster that was gonna have babies. i think they are inbreeded though because thier size hasnt chaneged at all they are nearing 5 weeks old and they still are babie size but they have fur there just small.

They used a spoon because if you get your human scent on it and put it back with the mother, the mother might not recognize her baby and eat it. Better safe than sorry. Btw, my hamsters are turning 5 days old tmrrw! I wish I could of seen the mom give birth tho. Just woke up and BAM! Saw 7 babies. 1 died tho, I think it got squished and couldn't breathe..

@polymerclaycreatable The mother removed the shavings and bedding, or the owner did, so the pups wouldnt be harmed by the shavings, you would be surprised how fragile they are.

@MrAyrehead09 but the petstore i go to takes the unwanted shelter animals you know the ones that arent adopted like hamsters and budgies. i never buy cats and dogs. the cat and 3 dogs i have are strays we felt bad for and decided to care for. its almost the same with my budgie i saw the petstore owner bringing her to the back and he said he was gonna bring her to petco since no one wanted her so i begged my dad to let me keep hersincemybday was the next day.the rodents i buy r from petstore

@polymerclaycreatable And the reason pet store animals are bad for breeding, is because you dont know there genetic background, they could carry any forms of diseases - and if you breed them, your damning a litter to a bad life. In addition to this, some colourations of hamsters create eyeless-toothless hamsters when bred. Your not hurting the animals your buying, your hurting the animals that are going to be bred from the sales - and the potential problems any petstore bought animals babies

@MrAyrehead09 but i didnt breed my hamster and i never new i bought a hamster that was gonna have babies. i think they are inbreeded though because thier size hasnt chaneged at all they are nearing 5 weeks old and they still are babie size but they have fur there just small.

my female hamster just gave birth to 5 hamster 2 of them are at the side of the cage the rest is with the mother i scard it will not receive enough nourishment for the 2 hamsters

I think my dwarf hamster is pregnant now but I can't tell but I read that they hoard bedding when they r about 2 give birth and she's been doing that a lot the past few days. This is my first time and I'm still learning about them any advice?

Yes I do have a boy hamster also but I'm not exactly sure if they have done the do or not. I've been trying 2 take all the precautions I've read about and I've been checking the cage constantly! LOL!!! I even had a dream about it last night too I really need help!

@ if she puts food under her nest instead of in a corner trust me i bought a pego hamster last month and it had babies (unexpectedley) i notice she was getting big on the day befor her birth. your hamster hoards bedding? my unexpectdley prego one did that). oh and hey Here is an expirament that tells if shes pregnant :) put some tolipaper strips and see what she does with them if she hoards them than shes pregnant or just a pregnant fake :o.

Thx 4 the tip! She was doing all of the above and I just noticed yesterday that she looked HUGE!!! And late last night she had 8 pups! They're smaller than I thought! But cute!

Ya the babies r okay she actually had 7 my bf miscounted they're getting fur now but they still haven't opened their eyes yet. Not like that stops them from running all over the cage! LOL!!! I had her for a while but I thought she was a boy and bought another male hamster

I really want baby dwarf hamsters, I have two. But I just found out that they r both boysim not a breeder. I think it is abuse to do that to all those hamster I just really want to witness the birth of a hamster. I know u might think it is weird and I know it is,but some people said it was very cool. Please give me advice!

@aprilaysha3 Hamsters normally give birth during the night,chances are you wouldnt see it,even if you did,breeding animals you dont know the genotype of especialy if you dont know about breeding often results in litters death,or mommas death.

They used a spoon because if you get your human scent on it and put it back with the mother, the mother might not recognize her baby and eat it. Better safe than sorry. Btw, my hamsters are turning 5 days old tmrrw! I wish I could of seen the mom give birth tho. Just woke up and BAM! Saw 7 babies. 1 died tho, I think it got squished and couldn't breathe..

my new hamster had 8 babies unexpectedly a week after i bought her there is 8 they turn 11 today :] hey u should have put more bedding for her coz that doesnt look very comfy

@polymerclaycreatable The mother removed the shavings and bedding, or the owner did, so the pups wouldnt be harmed by the shavings, you would be surprised how fragile they are.

@MrAyrehead09 know because thats aspen and on the sides of the cage you can see the bedding amount is the SAME! and i know how fragile they are DUH my hamster had babies and what would you KNOW ABOUT HAMSTERS EVERYTHING YOU READ from the internet ( your such a know it all ) youve posted 3 comments already ! im not trying to be tacky or a mean person but seriousley the bedding amount is the same on the other side watch the video 3 times or 100 you'll notice.

Dude! Don't take a spoon and screw with them! Baby hampsters are very fragile, and plus if you do that the mom will abandon them and even eat them!

Im so sad my hamster gave birth but i put my hand in to hold her because my dog died and i needed comforting and baby hamsters were hanging off her i knew she was pregnnat but i didnt think she would have them today and i touched them will she eat them?? it looked like she was feeding them milk after i touched them!!

I remeber i was in 5th grade and when I came home from school my hamster had had 11 babies. They are very small and funnylooking. it looks like it hurts the hamster. I had one that looked just like this. Her name was Tina. I also had a Thina 2.

well you should take them away when they start to eat their mothers food. and if she ate her babies then ur friend must have touched one because the mom onley eats them if she feels dangered by it.
