You are correct about "dumb" people on both sides, however the left has 40-50% uneducated, uninformed and downright idiotic (look at the "Holly-idiots" like penn,fonda,moore etc...), while 5-10% are uneducated on the conservative side. By the way my conservative values have nothing (or just a bit) to do with money. I am an Independent, but I believe in small government and low taxes. I hear about "socialized medicine" that I don't want it. Many of my relatives live in countries they have it and who ever can afford it comes here to the US for treatment. Finally while in some cases I am OK with abortion the left wants abortion to be like a haircut. Even in the 9TH month of the pregnancy. I have a problem with that.

As much as you my disagree with them, Penn, Fonda, and Moore are all informed and educated voters (wrong or right). Just because the do not believe what you do does not make someone uneducated. I'm talking about PERSONAL experience. I used to be more liberal when I was young. 95% of my personal friends and relatives used to be more liberal 20 years ago. My co-workers used to be more liberal (as they say) 20-30 years ago. I don't know one person that is more liberal now than 20 years ago. Even bill bomb USA ayers is less liberal now than he was in the 70s.

I do not think you are conservative as much as you are probably more partisan now. Republicans have not had a real conservative since Eisenhower. After Goldwater, it was say one thing and do another. Conservatism is not a bad political philosophy it just has not been present anywhere in America in recent history. Republicans administrations have created the biggest debt and growth in the size of government. Republicans are corporatists who win by adopting hot button visceral issues.

I do not know about that either. I do not think people are any smarter or dumber than they used to be. People have access to a lot more information and misinformation now days. The post war and pre war days are not the happy days that you may think they are. There is no way that Reagan was conservative. He oversaw the true beginnings of runaway national debt and expanded the government more than anybody until George W. Bush.

The failed peanut farmer expended it beyond anything until now and his actions resulted in the biggest recession and than inflation in modern times. When Reagan came in, slashed the Government and taxes the economy rebounded and we had the biggest growth in US history (except maybe after WW2 but that is arguable). Bush took over a recession from Clinton and a fearful US from terrorists. He changed that!

Reagan raised taxes 11 times. By the end of his administration taxes were higher on the middle and lower classes and of course lower on the upper class. The laffer curve proved to be a fallacy also in its support of the idea that less taxes generated more revenue. Reagan also spent and expanded government way to much for his idea to have chance of succeeding.

I do not think your tax numbers are correct. I think it was 85 down to 65. JFKs comments are in reference to civil service btw so I think that runs down the line of ideologies. No not everything is socialist! Universal health care is! They take 33% of your pay and they give you "FREE" government controlled care. There is not one Country it works in. They have it in Hungary, but my Sisters take their Kids to private doctors, because the government doctors have quota and you can go back 3-4 times to the office before you get a prescription. The wait is 3 to 10 weeks for emergency surgery and 3 to 18 months for non emergency surgery.

Obviously I do not much about Hungarys system but however England, Germany, Japan, and France all have high public satisfaction of their healthcare systems. I dont understand why would be happy with the dismal and immoral system we have now.

It is clear you didn't talk to any British, German, Japanese and french people. I have relatives living in Germany, England, Ireland and Austria. They all have horror stories for you! Canada too! The people that work pay an extremely high price to take care of the lazy bums. The people that pay in to their universal health care also have to die waiting weeks for emergency operations. Many of them come here to the US and pay out of pocket to be treated.

I kow 4 Canadian Couples (Snow birds) that have most of their health care issues taken care of here in Arizona. Even in the summer time they come down here if they need anything done. With travel it is much faster and better care than the Canadian would be. They all have American insurance year around that they pay for and they pay the difference. Why? Because Canada has universal health care! The wait for an MRI is 2 to 4 weeks!
