Look people the wreck is now in four parts I was told this by the bomb disposal squad in leysdown when we found a remainding bomb there. They said that the wreck will never blow up unless the bombs onboard have explosives attached to them nothing to worry about nothing going to happen this has proved it hadn't blown up for the last 71 years so it isn't now plus bombs that are 50 years or older have to have explosives attached anyway!
People, should not say that it's not dangerous, without being qualified to say, I would rather take note of the famous bomb disposal expert Major Hartley MBE.. TNT doesn't deteriate in water, and phosphorus has to be kept in water to keep it from exploding. Its too dangerous to touch thats why divers never have been inside. A liberty ship of the same size exploded in Texas, throwing it's 2 ton anchor 1.62 miles (2.61 km) and knocking two planes out of the sky see:- Texas_City_Disaster
After talking to a group of the royal engineers in a Allhalows pub' i was told that if it went off at a low neap tide then there would be a lot of metal debri thrown for several miles causing widespread damage to the many properties and industrial centres in the area ' but if it went off at high tide then the force of the explosion would be ''damped by tons of water resulting in less damage' also 'there is not enough depth of water for a tidal wave to build itself up into to a tidal wave'
tnt can only degrade overtime IF exposed to water so it is possible half of the tnt has disitegrated tnt that old could also be weakened. People do over-react slightly with this as it wouldnt cause as big of an explosion as some people thing and southend and kent would be safe if the expolsion went off the waves would hardly hit the coasts it would be the tremor that may effect some houses and buildings in the nearby areas because of the impact but it certainly wouldnt destroy the towns.
don't you think if terrorists were going to attack the montgomery they would have done it by now.lets face it she is not that difficulty to find is she
i live near that ship in southend its in the middle of the sea between kent, folkstone, sheerness, canvey island and southend, i live in southend, so if it goes off thats alot of places under water.
Wow, comments with words like "disintergrated", "munisiion", "bidergradable", and "munision" really come off as well informed and powerful, don't they? But like Rhyster said, the damn thing has been sitting there nearly seventy years. We've all got much greater problems to concern ourselves with than the slim to nil chance she can still explode.
the bomb squad are talking about making it safe. they say that what they could do is use the mud and debris from a major construction I.E another euro tunnel, and build a huge ring round the montgomery. then pump out the water. then take the explosive munision out. and leavewhat they can as a memorial. would also be a major tourist attraction. haha lol.. i really think they should do it. i mean it is a huge danger to millions of people. should be a worldwide priority. imagine a terror attack.
Tut, most of the bombs have proberbly disintergrated over time, its been there nearly 70 years. :l, If it was gonna go BOOM, it wuld have done, i am very interested in the montgomery, wouldnt u just love to see ti blow up? all the water :P, if it did go boom, Southend and kent wudnt be affected
na mate the bombs cant disintigrate thats what i always thought. but no. i dont think the TNT munisiion actually is bidergradable and therefore can not break up. as he said the fuses have. but still if severe friction occurs on the ship then ... u know "ooh shit". ive actually been on my familys fishing boat to it. obv not right up to it. there is a safty thing all round it. but it is really scary. i was shitting myself thought it was gunna blow up. alot of fish down there too. lool.
"chances of survival on the boat: nil. Sheerness, not much better" hahahha way he sys it ;)
