  • Playing this song for LGPE in my band! Flutes and all the epic sounding parts of this song (basically the whole thing) FTW!

  • Love this song we are playing this in my band class

  • Bassoon for the win! :D

  • @mandie1234 JH?

  • I play Euphonium and we are playing this song and heaven's light for our concert and I'm first chair euphonium player and the song is amazing!

  • @NathanAbdullah977 Liberty?

  • I love the way our band plays it XD And we only have 1 french horn and 1 bass clarinet.. 6 clarinets. 4 flutes. 2 altos. 1 barry. 1 sax. about 8 trumpets. 4 barintones. 2 tubas and 2 trombones and awesome percussion :) I hope we do amazing in the uil preformance :) Wish us luck :D

  • I'm playing this, but for a music school downtown rather than my school band, and the director is overly strict and scary. Anyway, we're supposed to play this piece, but he's thinking about dropping it. Due to most everyone's lack of preparation, he's having us play the entire piece alone, in a room with a recorder, so he can later listen and decide if you deserve to play. I'm very nervous, and I was wondering if anyone had any tips for this piece. I play the French Horn, by the way.

  • im doing this for festival!

  • I almost got to play this when I was in middle school, but for some reason no one really cared much for it so it was replaced. I still don't understand why they passed on a chance to play such a good piece while they were in middle school. I was looking forward to playing the timpani part on it...

  • I played this at a band camp I went to in seventh grade, and I just found the music for my part again. I'm a senior now, and Frank Ticheli is actually one of my favorite composers (we played Angels in the Architecture and Vesuvius in my band last year, are playing An American Elegy this year and played Vesuvius in District Band, AND we're singing one of his choral pieces in choir) and it just blew my mind to know that I actually played a piece by him years before I really knew who he was :)

  • Lol same here

  • Wow this just blew my mind!!!!!! I'm gonna ask my director if we can play it

  • I love this piece.!!!! I'm in 7th grade and I play the clarinet, but I made the Jr high wind ensemble, so I'm mixed with alot of 8th graders and were just starting this piece! :)

  • HMM I played this yesterday

  • super simple piece. just a bit challenging to coordinate all of the instruments. 8th grade performing in less than a week.

  • our school might play this! i play french horn!

  • @pinkpink1234567890hi my school is playing it for UIL and I am french horn too (:

  • I played in a national competition with this song. Our school won.

  • @StephanieFilms97

good luck its a chaneglling piece but still fun

  • I played this for honors band yesterday. :) We were all really good. I play the tenor saxophone and it was super fun.

  • WHERE ARE THE BASS CLARINETS? :(

  • i play this but our seconds are hurting my ears like hell

  • Baritone babe :)

  • Played this in 8th grade and got me a flute solo =,D

  • Flutes all the way!!!!!!!! <3

Even though I have to say i love the trumpets :)

  • my band is playing this for our fall concert. thumbs up for trombone players!!!!

  • I love this piece! I play the saxophone (alto) and my band is playing it for our fall concert! I'm really enjoying it!

  • @Socksthevilkitten YEAH! BRASS GALS FTW!!! ^___^ I play tuba, and in 5th grade I was the first girl tuba player in over 8 years!! :D I love my tuba~~

  • We're working on this song in my eighth grade band... It's so much fun!! And I play tuba! Nothing's ever fun with tuba; it's just whole notes. XD Really, though, this song is great. :3

  • I'm a percussionist and get to play the xylophone for this piece. Been helping out the auxiliary a lot too, cause they're having issues. But it's so fun to play! <3

  • i play oboe! i love playing this song!

  • I've been turned into a frog...

  • I'm a percussionist and even though I'm playing only auxiliary instruments this is still fun.

  • thumbs up if ur a 7th grader playing this song :)

  • all-county 2009 <3

  • Thumbs up if u played this song in ur skool or where ever

  • And last year we actually got straight 1s in uil

  • ima bari sax player at my skool and I used 2 play this song last year it was fun

  • Played Bass Clarinet to this song fucking loved it <3 one of my favorites playing in band

  • I love how Ticheli writes to where the whole band better be good. He doesn't just give the same things to clarinets as he does trumpets, or bari-sax and tuba; each section must be able to stand their ground (and further than that each player) because he often gives the 2nd and 3rd parts of any instrument independant lines.

  • Every instrument is equally important in the successful sound of a band :]

I play tuba and know that clarients and flutes are essential. Maybe not so much during marching band, but definitely in concert band.

  • i found myself counting along and playing the snare parts on the computer desk haha

  • Im a bassoonist and I really enjoy playing this song :)

  • @dianitsia I'm a saxophonist and I really enjoyed playing this song too :D

  • playing this in band right now! it's really easy, but it's such a cool piece! i really love playing it! i play first horn on it! FRANK TICHELI FTW

  • playing this in band right now! it's really easy, but such a cool piece! i really love playing it i play first horn on the song! FRANK TICHELI FTW

  • played this in 8th grade and we rocked it, it was pretty freakin amazing

  • Oboe. That's all I'm gonna say. <3

LOVELOVELOVE this piece! I played it my Sophomore year of high school for UIL. Got straight 1st Divisions on it. :-)

  • I play perrcussion and I practice with this song every day

all of these instrumests bring this song together in the end

  • bassoon is where its at!

  • YEAH! CLARINETS FTW!!~ :D

  • Contrabass clarinets all the way<3

  • GO BASSOONS!! :D

  • GO BASSOONS!!

For anyone who knows what they are :D

  • TUBAS WOOHOO

  • BASS CLARINETS ALL THE WAY!!!

  • same here msbandnerd trumpets own all songs!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • @bigperk345 That is right us Trumpets own at everything.

  • played this song for contest today:) absolutle love ticheli:) GO TRUMPETS!:))

  • @reject- percussion owns all, even flutes.

  • Euphonium all the way.

  • LOVE THIS SONG:) i play it in a month at a concert and i cant wait for my parents to hear this:)

  • pshhh even though flutes pwn this song ;)

they couldnt do it without the trumpets, low brass, or percussion.

even though i play flute and think its needed in all songs to make them the best.

everyyyy instrument s needed to make an awesome song :)

    loveee loveee loveee this piece<3

  • 5 people dont no what good music is. Or they would have clicked the like button!!!

  • when i listen to this song. it brightens my day!!!

  • Temple Blocks, Suspended Cymbal, and Slapstick. All me in my school band's rendering of this song!

  • I really love this piece, mostly because my band is playing it for our contest, but we still have a long ways to go to play it perfectly.

  • About every band song that I see comments in disappoints me...:/ Why? Because of the major lack of girl brass players. Who ever made a rule girls have to play a clarinet, or flute? I play trombone, and proud that in my whole band of 60 kids, only 3 girls play brass, me included. Besides, brass pwns! :) In beginner band, of 14 trombones, I was the girl, and I was master of most of the players. If you're a girl brass player (tuba, baritone, trombone, trumpet, french horn, and any others), up this!

  • @Socksthevilkitten w00t TROMBONE! The few girl trombonists that I've played with are some of the best.

  • @GoFidoGo girls sure knowhow to blow a boner

  • @Socksthevilkitten Im a french hornist and im a girl... AND IM 1st FRIKIN CHAIR! girls pretty much own the 7th grade band at my skewl.

  • @Socksthevilkitten i play trumpet, french horn, trombone, euphonium! and pretty much all the woodwinds. but bassoons my main and trumpet is my second i play it in my jazz class and im the only girl in the class the plays brass theres one other girl but she plays bari :( but i have to agreee brass is better than clarinet and flutes they are just annoying!!!!

  • @2fieldhockeyfreak1 lol. ya. i dont like clarinets for that and flutes are a little annoying too. im cool with low woodwinds as well. but brass is so much fuller and louder so we out rank the whole band for that. :)

  • @Socksthevilkitten that is true our tuba player does not know the meaning of piano his piano is a forte and his forte is like a triple forte haha our director has to yell at him but other than that no one else in our brass section plays loud haha. but i do have a thing for brass players its kinda weird haha

  • @2fieldhockeyfreak1 haha. :) i dont get what you mean," i have a thing for brass players." u mean youre in love with them!?!?!?!?!?! hahaha.

  • @Socksthevilkitten well the past three guys ive liked were all brass players haha so i guess yes

  • @Socksthevilkitten I am a female trombonist, and proud of it! I've run across plent of boys in the section who say I shouldnt be there, but they were just mad they had to compete with my tones!

  • @Socksthevilkitten Imma guy but im gonna thumbs up cuz TROMBONES RULE!!!!!! TROMBONE FTW!!!

  • @kaykayboy23 lol ^.^

  • @Socksthevilkitten when I was in high school, the trombone section consisted of 3 AMAZING girls, the baritones had 1 girl, the french horns were 2 girls and 1 guy, we had bout 9 trumpets mixed with girls and guys, simply amazing brass section

  • @Socksthevilkitten I SO AGREE! trumpet all the way!!!!! and same thing with drums! people seem to think only guys can play the snare and stuff but its bulshit,i play drumset, and it has to be the most anger releasing instrument., especially good for us girls:)

  • @Socksthevilkitten Well the problem in our band is that few girls want to take the position or even want to play band. And literally almost every student in the school has discipline issues, making it harder for us. And miraculously we pull through with mostly excellents. This kinda applies to both our Concert and Jazz. Btw I play flute and bari sax. :)

  • @Socksthevilkitten Yeah, and who made the rule that guys couldn't play flutes? The two guy flutes in my band are the best!

  • @Socksthevilkitten im a trumpet girly :)

  • @Socksthevilkitten i play trumpet and my girlfriend plays the tuba. my ex plays the trombone.

  • @Socksthevilkitten woah! in my band we have like 20 girls on sax or barri sax and trumpet and a girl who plays tuba and about 3 or 4 trombone players who are girls. I play flute, not because I think theres a rule, but because it was so ME. people are their instruments.

  • @Socksthevilkitten Actually, all but 2 of the French horn players in my college's Wind Symphony are girls. Yay horns!

  • Trumpets and Altos are the best. :)

  • (I'm in Highschool Honors band)

I played Vesuvius last year, and now we're playing Abra Cadabra this year.

    (3rd Tbone ftw)

  • Flute part after Fermata-33

  • I am in both the concert and symphonic band at my school, and both classes are doing a Frank Ticheli piece. Abracadabra is the one we are playing in concert, and to be honest it is a lot more fun to play than Fortress, the one we are playing in symphonic band!!!

  • Such a beautiful composition.

I'm playing this now in honors band.

  • This is so good. My little sister's band played and won Super-State with this piece.

  • LCM band is currently playing this, this is one of our contest pieces (symphonic band)

  • Lol you never hear 3rd parts in any music.

  • @MusicallyMe15 same with me. Trumpets are stupid

  • Loved playing this in 7th grade :) he came to our school and conducted us in his pieces

  • I looooove this song(: we are playing it for UIL!(:

  • I'm playing it for UIL too!

    awsm!! :)

  • *cough*Saxophone is the best and you know it *cough* and French Horn *cough*

  • TRUMPETS!!! WE WILL TAKE ALL OF YOU CLARANITE AND FLUTE BITCHES DOWN!!!!!!!!

  • @102gab Clarinet* Good luck, considering every trumpet player I know is an idiot and can't play their instrument properly(:

  • @MusicallyMe15 ok dude, i dont know fuking how but out trumpets sound like shit! Im 2 trumpet of the school and im in 7th and im pretty good but dang everyibe bellow me sucks balls! My band teacher said begginers trumpet sound better than some trumpets who been playen for 3 years!

  • @102gab Wow. Maybe it's because they changed their teaching style or something. That's highly unusual. Or maybe they just don't care.

  • its grade 3

  • were playing this song in our 9th grade band during concert season this year and also may i be the first to say mother fucking trumpets are the best intstrument and will always be the best not the pussy ass flutes and clarinets that no one can hear :)

  • @boxheadzombie1

everyone is certainly entitled to their own opinion, however, in this piece the flutes and clarinets are important.especially around 2:28

and you cant really compare the two because clarinets and flutes are woodwinds whereas trumpets are brass, so its like compareing apples to oranges...

  • @boxheadzombie1 I'm pretty sure it'd sound crappy with out the "pussy ass flutes and clarinets"

  • @Axartsme also try this piece without the trumpets and see where it takes you

  • -is spreading the French Horn love with this comment-

    8)

  • Read this a couple of times in my high school band over the past week.

We played Blue Shades last year, and ever since then Ticheli has just stood out to me as a fantastic composer.

    Great song.

  • TENOR SAX FOR THE WINNN!!!! O.O

  • Type PRIZE before youtube and hit enter

  • middle school or high school grade hehe

  • alto saxes in this song rock! i had alot of fun playing this epic song on alto, now we are following this up by playing joy revisited this year but im on bari. still a cool part!=)

  • you take one part out of this song and it completely sucks so its not about one section

music ed major but the individual parts are very cool but unless they are together they dont sound as cool

  • its all about the saxes in this song!!

  • @guitarplayer00052 +100000000000000

  • @guitarplayer00052 Haha, the sax part is pretty awesome in this song. We sightread this piece before my instructor gave it to us so we could play it for UIL this year, and between readings he lost the alto parts somewhere and he still has yet to find them. Hopefully he does!

  • I have played this twice.

And if you notice, sometimes it gets a little "Spastic". :)

  • I have played this twice.

And if you notice, sometimes it gets a little "Spastic". :)

  • freaking love the grace notes on the horn!!!! and 2:02. we played this for state a couple years ago, it went so well. such a fun, "magical" piece in my opinion. excuse the intentional pun.

    Bass Bone ftw :D

    ---------------------

this is my 2nd [and last] Ticheli piece for highschool.

My Junior year we played Vesuvius. This year we're playing this one.

  • @JimmyHopkins2 wow seriously??as a senior?im in Alvarado middle school and we are playing this.no saying your bad or anything.i was just surprised.

  • @whipyosin you probably went to a bigger school, I bet. We played this when I was a senior last year. I don't think it's that hard, but our entire high school band program had about 40 students in it, and we switched directors only a few years before. This is pretty normal for what a school my size would play for a festival or something.

  • @melancholymiles wow i didnt know bands can have such a small amount of people...because in my class we have around 150 people total.im in california so we have parade bands and drumline etc.. yeah alot of people playing together. well thanks for informing me about that.

  • @whipyosin

well last year we played Vesuvius (grade 5)...we just like variety i guess lol

  • @JimmyHopkins2 oh..yeah that happens for our school too.we jump from super low leveled things to high levels and back down.maybe its just because the band director doesnt really care if its hard or not, just if it sounds good.

  • @RainbowsNSmiles13

    Trombones, son!

  • @ihatethisusername132

    tubas. t-bones. euphs.

  • No love for Bassoonists :/

  • @Hxc4Step or bari sax
