I hate the term "committing suicide". It almost means to say that they're committing a crime. But the only crime Romeo and Juliet committed was being in love. The fact that their deaths ended the fighting between their households is very moving. Such a sad story. This is a great adaptation.

According to Dante's Inferno people who commited suicide who are transformed into gnarled thorny trees and which fed on by Harpies; they are the only ones who won't be re-judged in the second coming as they gave their bodies away when they offed themselves. People honestly believed that in the day.

I wouldn't call it love. They only knew each other a few hours before they got married. They were in lust if anything

this story never gets old nomater how many times it is told and nomater how many diffrent ways they replay it in diffrent forms and ways The story of tragety - its strange but even though I don't know or understand anything they are saying, what happens in this tale is clear as day and it breaks my heart every time I hear the names of romeo and juliet - I love listening to william shakespear - parting is such sweet sorrow - ya know

It was something that would make it seem like she was dead for 24 hrs (or so) Just enough time for her to be put in the family tomb and for Romeo to get to her before she woke up. The plan was for them to run away together after that but Romeo didn't know she was still alive.

It sucks that it ends with them killing themselves. Because they are in Italy and that's like the home of Catholicism and in that religion it is said that if you committ suicide then you automatically got to hell.

I guess that's Shakespeare for you. I'd guess he'll say it's dramatic license. With lots of Shakespeare's plays, the geography is rather wrong in some places; this may be the same. That's not to say he was bad...of course not!

@SoulSlayerBlade I think this shows how little Romeo and Juliet think through what they are doing. Romeo in particular acts passionatley without pause for thought. One minute he was in love with Rosalind next minute he was in love with Juliet. As soon as they fall in love they marry immediately even though they don't know each other. Romeo kills Tybalt in a flash of rage instead of letting the prince deal with the crime and then they both comit suicide without a thought for their religion.
