Thanks for this! I redid my entire basement (which was cinderblock, actually) and ended up doing a little over 1000 bricks using this method. Everyone who's seen it can't believe it isn't ACTUAL brick.
Sure... it's a painting technique over plaster. In this video the plaster texture behind the faux finished bricks only added to the depth of the bricks. Try getting smaller samples of paint and test your technique in a corner. Then go gang busters when you have the colors correct and a technique that works. Let me know what happens :)
@brokendolltoplaywith Yes... and have fun with it. This is simply a painting technique laid upon previous brick and plaster. The waves, motion, and texture of the plaster was not made by me. Those patterns in the end helped the faux finish and mural look more real.
I want to paint my cinder block foundation to look like river rocks but can't find any information online how to do it. Wish you could make a video of that.
Painting a castle wall: If the outside in the weather use satin exterior paint. You can use the paint specs below for inside applications. Using the same technique described in the video and all you need to do is expand the size of your brick/stone to the size you want. Pick the colors you want: One dark color, one medium color, and one light color. You might want to find some pictures of the castle stone wall you want to try. Use this picture as your guide.
Paint used: Valspar American Tradition paint from Lowe's (the better the paint, the better the results)
Base color: Florentine Clay #2003-5B
Accent colors: Gardener's Soil #2010-9, plus black, white, and red
Flat finish (brick isn't shiny)
If you use "eggshell" instead of flat paint you will be able to clean the faux finished brick a lot easier and stands the test of time better. I hope this helps :)
Where could I email pics to you? I'm happy to share!

for the brick, are you using wet on wet technique? is the towel dry?
onthinice766 1 year ago
@onthinice766 - The towel is dry. Using a dry towel helps the paint dry faster, thus laying down more colors and layers quickly.
