An ambitious film that is so breathtaking, it detracts you from the fact that Cameron's characters are caricatures...I watched it free in HD quality at
i love this movie i saw last night i love the knowing of them slowly falling in love and the romance also that bad ass action :) there better be a second one :)
Agree with You, Sir Cameron wouldn't be making the sequels solely for $.
Considering the fact that Avatar made $ 2.5 billion worldwide so far, they could make 2 sequels that make a tiny fraction of that and still be in the green.
In any case, Cameran-san did say a sequel/trilogy is assured if the movie is a success.
At this point its not a question of If but when, and I don't know how many years it'll take them to make 2 more. They'll probably make them at the same time to "save $ like LOTR.
Well it is motion capture, so it was her performance, not just her voice.
Well the way they told the classic story was completely original. It was more of a message movie though. It was just as good the 7th time around, and it definitely deserves the best picture.
i really liked the pacing of the last action scene; how it went back and forth between the Navi winning, then the humans winning, then nature fighting back, ending with the final faceoof between jake and the army guy (i realize "army guy" is a stupid term, i just forget his name! :S)
@MegaMuffin4568 I agree the pacing for the final battle was excellent and as cool as i thought the showdown bettween jake and the colonal was awesome, i felt it was just in there to have a good guy vs bad guy final showdown and didnt think it was needed but i did really enjoy it at the same time
Great reviews! I agree with nearly everything you said in this video. I too saw it twice, first time IMAX 3D, second time just in 3D. The second time around was definitely a LOT better. I understood the story better, I picked up on somethings I may have missed the first time, and i really found the 2 and a half hours enjoyable rather than "too long". The world of Pandora was extremely beautiful and so were the people. Their traditions, rituals & their love for their planet was truly incredible!
As for the CGI characters, they weren't animated, they were motion-captured. The actors didn't just give the voices, they gave the whole performance themselves, and were just given a CGI makeover in the film.
And maybe part of the reason you liked it more the 2nd time is 'cuz normal 3D looks better than the Imax 3D, since the film wasn't shot with Imax-quality cameras, so the quality just doesn't hold up as well on the bigger Imax screens.
@Marksman230591 Yea i didnt know that about that about the CGI...i am very excited to see the making of this film when its gets realeased on dvd cause it seems like they did so much groudbreaking stuff in this film and Im curious to see how they acomplished all of the amazing special effects
Hey, like your review very much; it's very detailed and articulate. I'm dropping in this comment sort of randomly, because it has nothing to do with your review, but one thing which I've seen people say which bugs me is about the scenes involving the "floating mountains". I've heard people say that that part is an "epic science fail", but it's actually based in fact. I'm no expert, but based on the fact that the "unobtainium" in the movie is a naturally-occurring superconductor, probably the
premise is that parts of Pandora's geography other than the unobtainium sites contain room-temperature superconductors. If placed in the right sort of magnetic fields, superconductors float. So although the concept is stretched kinda far in the movie (those mountains are BIG, and they haven't found a room-temp superconductor yet), the idea of the floating mountains is not completely farfetched. Also, it explains the problems the machines have when in the vicinity of the mountains--magnetism.
James Cameron is the man! If only all movie directors where like him! Avatar is probably the best movie I've seen ever and will be really hard to see another one like this in a long time!
As lukelovesrose said, the actors did not just do a voice part. They actually physically acted out every scene. Thats one of the things makes this movie so brilliant and the characters so realistic because it was really a human preformace.
It's Zo-E Saldana. And, damn it, it's not just "voice work." She was acting in CGI make-up. Every expression on Neytiri's face, every nuance of her actions... that's all Zoe.
I loved the Metaphor of the Natives (The Na'vi) fighting to defend their land from deforestation and tyranny from Corporate Colonialism (The Humans)! A powerful Sci-Fi / Fantasy that is VERY timely for our day!!! Please see my review(s) of the movie on my Channel. Thanks!
Avatar is the best fucking movie ever! Only Americans could have made such a great movie. And guess what? There were 2 Dominicans in the movie which played a huge role in the movie
Great Review but my favorite part of this video is the last minute and 15 seconds..LOL i couldnt stop laughing awesome job thanks for entertaining me!!!
I actually liked the story of this movie a lot. I mean yes, it was kind of cliched, but what drama isn't. I usually keep a blank slate for all movies. I try and ignore other movies that have come out and experience the movie for what it was meant to be. And in a movie like this, you can't really start saying, "Oh, this is just like that movie, it's so cliched." because it ruins the experience in my opinion.
@chris101b Yea I agree with you that is the best way and thats what I did the second time viewing it and I enjoyed it alot more, sometimes you cant help but compare it to other movies though
I went to see it again today and I enjoyed it just as much as I did the first time. Every time that I see it, I just blank out and enjoy the movie for what it is, even after seeing before. I compare it to other movies when I leave the theater, but when I am actually watching it, I can't help but blank out. James Cameron is a genius like that.
Except George Lucas....... PHFTHAHAHAHAHA...... sorry, I couldn't say that with a straight face.
Anyway, my brother found something kind of interesting though. It is a cartoon made 3 years before James Cameron wrote the "original" script back in 1994 I believe. Does this remind you of anything??? A particular scene perhaps? Copy/paste "FernGully - The fight with Hexxus!"
Kind of seems weird that James Cameron would steal this story from a cartoon. It basically has the same story.
